Peter's POV

I sat alone in the living room for a long time after Cerene went upstairs. The medical papers still lay on the floor where I had dropped them. My mind kept turning over everything she had done. The fake illness.

The way she had manipulated me. The way I had defended her without question.

Then another memory surfaced. The day of the birth. The day they told me the baby had not survived. Caroline’s pale face. Her quiet insistence that something was wrong.

The way I had shut her down

Caroline's POV Tyrone did not tell me where we were going. He only said the place would help me understand who he really was if we were going to take things on the next level. The private jet ride was quiet when I sat beside him, watching the clouds pass beneath us, trying not to ask too many questions. Every time I glanced at him, he seemed calm, almost settled, as if a weight he had been carrying was finally about to be set down. When the plane landed, a black convoy was already waiting. We drove for some time through clean, wide roads lined with tall trees. The further we went, the quieter everything became. Then the gates appeared. They were massive. Gold and black, guarded by men in formal uniforms who straightened the moment the car approached. The gates opened slowly. Beyond them stretched a long driveway that led toward a palace so large and elegant that I sat forward in my seat without realizing it. White stone walls. Tall arched windows. Domes that caught the light.

“Mr. Lockwood, the final seizure order just came through,” the finance director said, standing stiffly in the doorway. “They’re moving on the remaining accounts today. The house is included.”Peter stared at him. His hands were pressed flat against the desk. “Today?”“Yes. Within the next few hours.”The director left quickly. Peter stayed seated for a long moment, breathing hard. His chest felt tight. He stood up too fast and the chair scraped loudly against the floor. He walked to the window, then back again, unable to stay still. His fingers kept curling into fists and releasing.“I had everything,” he muttered. “And I threw it away.”He grabbed his keys and left the office without another word. The drive was restless. He kept shifting in his seat, jaw locked, one hand gripping the steering wheel too hard. When he finally stopped, it was not at his own house. He had driven to Cerene’s parents’ place without fully deciding to.He knocked harder than necessary.Cerene opened the door

  • My Ex Husband's Greatest Regret    Chapter 80

Caroline's POVThe door opened a few minutes after Peter left. Tyrone stepped inside, closing it quietly behind him. He took one look at my face and the empty chair across from the desk, then gave a small, knowing smile.“I passed him in the hallway,” he said. “He looked like a man who just lost an argument he couldn’t afford to lose. Congratulations.”I leaned back in my chair. “He asked for money. I offered him a different kind of deal.”Tyrone walked closer, stopping beside the desk. “Let me guess. The kind that costs him everything?”“Something like that.”He let out a short breath that was almost a laugh. “Just… try not to destroy him too quickly. At least give the man time to feel it properly.”The joke was light, but his eyes stayed warm as they met mine. I stood up. The space between us disappeared when he reached for me. His hand settled at my waist, steady and familiar. I lifted my face toward his, and he kissed me without hesitation. The kiss was slow and unhurried. His mou

Caroline's POVThe request for a meeting came through my assistant late in the afternoon. Peter wanted to see me. Urgently and he gave no details. Only that it was important.I almost refused. Then I changed my mind....I knew exactly what this was about. A mere financial loss and he's breaking... He's forgetting he made me lose alot...my son...I let out a deep breath and let him come. When he was shown into my office at the Harrington building, I remained seated behind the desk. I did not stand. I did not offer him a seat right away. I simply looked at him.He looked worse than he had at the gala. The sharp confidence he used to carry was gone. His suit was still expensive, but it hung on him differently. There were shadows under his eyes. His hands, when he finally stopped fidgeting with them, had a slight tremor.“Caroline,” he said. His voice was rougher than usual. “Thank you for seeing me.”I gestured toward the chair across from me. “Sit.”He sat. For a moment neither of us sp

Peter's POVThe call came in the middle of the afternoon.I was in my office reviewing quarterly reports when my finance director walked in without knocking. His face was pale. He placed a single folder on my desk and stepped back as if he did not want to be near it.“What is this?” I asked. He cleared his throat. “The investment you signed at the Harrington gala… the project has collapsed. Completely. The accounts the funds were transferred into are now empty. Offshore structures. Layered. We’re still trying to trace the final destination, but preliminary findings show more than half of the company’s liquid reserves are gone.”I stared at him. The words did not register at first.“That project was solid,” I said. “The projections were strong. The investors were legitimate.”“They appeared to be,” he replied carefully. “Everything checked out on the surface. Contracts. Backgrounds. Initial deposits. But once the full transfer went through, the structure dissolved. We’re dealing with a

Caroline's POVThe rest of the gala passed in a blur of polite conversations, camera flashes, and carefully measured smiles. I delivered the short address the lawyers had prepared. The room responded with the appropriate applause. Board members congratulated me. Investors introduced themselves. Through it all, I kept my expression controlled and my answers precise.Peter remained at the edge of the crowd for most of the evening. Every time I happened to glance in his direction, his eyes were already on me. I did not give him the satisfaction of holding the look.By the time the event began to wind down, my feet ached and my face felt stiff from maintaining the same composed expression for hours. Tyrone appeared at my side as the final guests started leaving.“The car is ready,” he said.I nodded and followed him toward the private exit. The night air outside was cooler. The moment we stepped into the back of the car, I leaned my head back against the seat and closed my eyes for a few
