Chapter 4

"Where are you?" He asked. I was shocked. I thought I was with Zack right now. That was when I realised it was just a dream. I had fallen asleep while dressing. I took my bag and ran off to meet Zack.

I was ushered in by a beautiful young lady when I got to the restaurant. He sat waiting for me, and the moment he saw me, he stood up and started walking towards me. He hugged and kissed me lightly on the cheek. "What kept you so long?" He asked. "Uhm...I," I started. "You said you were coming like an hour and forty-five minutes ago." I'm sorry I was called urgently to do something in school," I lied. I couldn't tell him I was dreaming of someone I thought was him kissing me. He would flare up. He then held my waist, gently pulling me along side with him. "Then you must be tired." I smiled foolishly by his side.

We walked into the main restaurant. It was big and beautiful. It was designed with blue light all around. The room itself was dark. You could only see the lights shining brightly in the dark. I loved it so much. Blue was my favourite colour. I was so happy. He suddenly stopped walking with me, letting go of my hip. I stopped walking and turned back. He was just standing, looking at me. I was confused. "Zack, what's going on," I asked.

"Oh, nothing. Go on in, I'll meet you soon, " he said.

"Where are you going to?" I asked again.

"I just need to make an urgent call," he said, turning back. I felt uneasy, but at the same time, there was nothing I could do. I walked in slowly. Immediately I walked past the door, their was a not so loud blast and large pile of confetti was thrown all over me, followed by a loud shout of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" I was so shocked and looked behind me to see some people coming in with a big cake. I didn't know what to say and definitely didn't know how to react. The light was turned on, and I finally realised the place I had thought was empty was a well decorated room. It was highly decorated, and trust me, the crew who did this work were the best. It was amazing and clearly the way I loved it. "Happy birthday, sweetheart," Zack whispered into my ears, hugging me passionately. I turned, hugging him back. He gave me his bear hug. "Thank you so much, Zack, you really didn't have to." "but I wanted to. You said you haven't celebrated your birthday before, so I wanted to make it a special day for you." He said, rubbing my hair gently. "I love you, Ali," He said. "I love you too, Zack." I really loved him. I have never witnessed this before and today I was. I was so happy. We were served dishes of different sorts, and I ate to my satisfaction, but of course, I left space for my dinner with my dad. That was important. It was a really memorable day, and I never forgot it.

Back to the present

I looked at Zack's face again. I felt anger go through my vein. I wanted to hurt him, but how do I do that? That was the question. I didn't know how to, but I knew I wanted to. I need a plan, but what do I think of?

I walked to the basement to receive some fresh air. I remembered sitting here all night discussing with my dad. I missed him. He would have told me what to do. I felt lonely and alone. I needed someone to talk to, but who was I going to talk to? Who was ready to listen to me? Who was going to understand? Who was going to give me the exact answer I wanted? Who was there to help? I was drowning in my thoughts and didn't realise it started raining so heavily. I finally realised but I was dampened. Water poured down my head, to my face, to my chest down to my legs. I could feel the cold of the rain slap against my body, but I was too sad to let it overtake me. I was too angry to feel cold. I was too mad to accept. I let the rain pour down my face as fresh tears went down with it. I cried for as much as I wanted without showing since it blended so well with the rain. I missed my dad and wanted to talk to him. I could let the world burn just to hear his voice. I fell on the sit behind me as I continued thinking. I didn't even know when I fell asleep there.

"Sam, have you found Dr. Rashford yet?" I asked."No, Ma'am. I've not been able to find him.""And why is that? You know I need to know what happened to my father." I said angrily, but I wasn't. It was part of the plan. The plan was to mislead them."I'm sorry ma, I'm still trying to find him,""Try harder, Sam. I need to see him." I ordered before getting down the car.In my office at Zeine Ltd., I dropped my bag carefully on the desk and exhaled slowly. Phase one was complete. Phase two required precision, timing, and distraction.I turned toward the mirror mounted beside the filing cabinet and adjusted my clothes with deliberate care. I loosened the top button of my shirt just enough, letting the soft curve of my chest rise into view—not desperate, not obvious, just… persuasive. My skirt, tailored to perfection, parted at the side as I moved, the long splits revealing the hot lengths of leg with every calculated step.Satisfied, I picked up a folder, an excuse, a prop, and smiled a

I slipped to the ground as I cried again and again, whispering that I was tired... tired of everything, tired of the confusion, tired of the fear crawling under my skin. I didn’t know what to do anymore. But the voice kept coming. That voice. It pressed against the inside of my skull like a warning bell, ringing, echoing, repeating the same name.It sounded so familiar, so close, like a voice I heard every single day without realizing it. How was I not able to place it? Why did it feel like it lived inside my memory already?I wiped my face with shaky fingers and immediately dialled Kyle.“What’s up with Dr. Ashford?” I asked, trying to stop my voice from cracking.“I’ve chained him to the room like you instructed, ma’am. He can’t go anywhere. Whenever you’re ready.”“Good.” I exhaled. “Kyle, I want you to look into the guy Mila was with the other day at the store.”“Which guy, ma’am?”“There was this guy she was with in the store today... this morning. I want you to look into him. I

I was so tired, my body aching, and I was famished. I told Kyke to drive me home before taking Dr. Ashford to the uncompleted building. I needed to freshen up and eat. Stress weighed me down like a heavy chain, and I could feel it in every part of me...my shoulders tight, my eyes almost rolling back from exhaustion.I finally got home and stepped into the shower. The warm water should have been relaxing, but my mind refused to let go. "I was… I was done. Done with everything." I said to myself as tears streamed down my eyes. I looked up as if expecting someone to drop from the ceiling. I was trying so hard to stop myself from bawling out, but it was of no use. I held my hand over my mouth to resist myself from making sounds. I was tired of everything already. I can't find what happened to my dad, I can't find the doctor, and I don't even know who was planning all these. My hands trembled slightly as I dried off. Just as I walked in my closet, my phone rang. It was Mila.I ignored i

I drove speedily to the hospital, my hands trembling on the steering wheel. I had no idea what I was going to do, but one thing was certain—I had to get that man out of there. Kyle had already tried to kidnap him, but that plan was falling apart. So now, I had no choice but to handle it myself. I picked up my phone"Kyle, how's it going?"“Ma’am, I’m still not able to enter the hospital,” Kyle whispered on the phone.“Why? Just pretend you’re any other visitor or something."“Ma'am, I have a plan, but there are security cameras everywhere. I can’t even access the main hallway without being caught."“Then find the technical room. Turn off the cameras. You can do that.”“But, I can’t do this alone.”I exhaled sharply. “You know what? I’m coming there right now. Stay where you are."“Okay ma.”I sped into the hospital parking lot and stepped out of the car. Kyle appeared from behind a tree, his face tense.“Kyle, what's going on?”“Ma'am, I found the location of the technical room—the o

I got back to the office, and the first thing I saw was Zack seated in the chair. He wasn’t relaxed—he was pacing, standing, sitting, then standing again as if something important had gone missing. The moment he heard the door, he looked up sharply. I froze for a second, watching him. His eyes kept scanning the room, restless, worried, but he hadn’t touched a single thing. I finally walked in fully. “I got the shirt,” I said softly. He exhaled—almost dramatically. “Where have you been all this while?” he asked, frustration lacing his voice. “I’ve been waiting for you.”“I’m so sorry,” I lied smoothly. “Something happened at the store, and I needed to fix it.”“Okay… sure.” He sighed, then looked at me again. “Where’s the shirt? And I hope it’s nice.”“Oh, it is.” I said as I handed it to him.He held it up, staring at it for a moment, his expression softening.“Wow,” he said. “You really do know my taste. This is definitely what I love.”"Well, yes, I know your taste because you were

I carefully arranged the documents on my table. My table was a mess and needed a saviour. I looked at Zeine's contracts and almost laughed out loud when a call came through my phone. Kyle’s name flashed on the screen.I immediately grabbed the phone as I answered quickly. “Hello, Kyle. How’s it going?” I asked. His voice came through shaky. “Ma'am…I couldn’t get through to the doctor. He has refused to comply.”I sat up straight. “Kyle, what do you mean by that? I told you to make sure I see him today."“Ma'am, I’m sorry,” he said, and I could hear the frustration in his tone. “I’m not able to get to him. I really don’t know what’s going on.”“Kyle,” I whispered sharply, “you never fail a mission. Why exactly are you telling me this? I want to see him right now. I need to be sure he’s telling the truth. I need to be sure he’s not playing with me. I need answers to my questions." I said angrily. “I have this feeling,” I continued. “Someone is trying to jeopardize my mission. I want t
