Chapter 2

Kyle’s face froze when he saw the glowing moonstone.

But then he let out a harsh, mocking laugh.

"This is your 'Alpha's token'?" He reached for it, but I dodged him. "Amelia, which black market stall did you buy this cheap junk from?"

"Real pack tokens hold power. They have a unique scent," Kyle sneered. "Something a pathetic human, a washed-up coffee-shop waitress like you, could never possess."

Common human. Coffee-shop waitress.

He always used my past to crush my dignity.

He was so far beneath me, it was embarrassing.

"My mate gave it to me," I said, my voice calm and steady. "And if I wanted, my mate could give me a mountain of them."

I wasn't lying.

Ethan was the most powerful Alpha in the North. He never let me down.

I wasn’t the same girl he could push around anymore.

Kyle stared for a second, then burst out laughing.

"Mate? Hahaha!" He bent over, howling with laughter. "Amelia, you've been living in a fantasy for too long!"

"Wake up!" Kyle's eyes turned vicious. "You're a tainted human I've slept with. I almost marked you. What Alpha would ever truly accept you?"

He advanced on me, step by step.

"You still reek of my scent!" he spat. "Every wolf can smell it. No Alpha wants a woman a Beta has touched as his mate! It's beneath them!"

My hands trembled with rage.

"And besides, that pup in your belly is mine!" Kyle's face was inches from mine. "The timing is perfect. What are you even trying to deny?"

Smack!

My palm connected with his cheek.

The sharp sound echoed through the airport terminal.

Kyle clutched his face, his eyes burning with fury.

"You dare hit me?"

"You're trash!" I shot back, my voice shaking.

He shoved me—hard. I cried out as I stumbled backward, landing painfully on the ground. My arms instantly wrapped around my stomach to shield it.

"Look at you!" Kyle loomed over me. "And you have the nerve to raise a hand to me?"

"Grab her!" Kyle ordered them, his eyes wild and cold.

Before I could react, the two wolves were moving toward me.

I tried to get up, but at six months pregnant, I was clumsy and slow.

"Kyle, you're insane!"

"Insane?" He crouched down with a cold smile. "I'm about to join the most powerful pack in the North!"

"My mate must be a pure-blood! My pups will be heirs to a powerful legacy!" Kyle’s voice was feverish.

His fingers dug into my chin again.

"And you, a filthy human, think you can use a pup to blackmail me?"

I tried to argue, but his grip tightened.

"My bloodline and my power cannot be stained!" Kyle’s eyes gleamed with madness. "I need to show the Blood Moon Pack my worth!"

"A half-breed means diluted power! It means shame!" he snarled. "That kind of stain can’t be allowed to exist!"

The two wolves were beside me now.

I hugged my belly tightly, my heart pounding in my chest.

The Blood Moon Pack?

I almost laughed. If only he knew the pup in my belly was the true heir to the Blood Moon Alpha.

Kyle stood up and gave me one last, cold look.

"And that little mutt in your belly," he snarled, his eyes glinting with madness, "is going to die."
