Chapter 6

Kate was hesitant but when she heard the sound of the engine pulling over, followed by the familiar footsteps, she knew that it was now or never.

Ella looked up and saw that the people she was going to call were already walking downstairs. She did not continue to move and turned around to go back downstairs.

Just then, from the corner of her eyes, she saw a figure flash by. Before her brain could process what was happening, she stretched out her hand to catch whoever was about to fall.

But to her surprise, the person evaded her hand, and her body stumbled downstairs. Just in time before she could retract her hand, the door was opened from outside and a tall figure rushed into the house like a hurricane.

A bloody scream echoed throughout the house.

Maggie rushed towards the stairs as she cried.

“Murder, murder.”

“Baby, our child… our child.” Kate cried weakly as she clutched her stomach.

“What happened?” Daniel asked as he scooped Kate in his arms.

“Ella, how could you do this? It does not matter how much you hate my sister. But what did an innocent child do to you?” Maggie cried as she pointed at Ella.

Kate seemed to have been triggered when she heard the word child. She broke out into painful moans as she twisted her face painfully.

Daniel seemed not to have realized what they were talking about as he asked absent-mindedly, “Child?”

“Yes, brother-in-law. This woman pushed my sister down the stairs. If not to have the child killed, what else could it be?”

“You?” Daniel sent his frosty gaze towards Ella. There was no warmth in those dark eyes. Ella felt like she was looking into an endless abyss that was about to swallow her whole.

Ella came back to her senses. Looking at how Maggie was crying as if she was the one pregnant, she felt like laughing.

If she had not heard their earlier conversation, she might have actually felt sorry for them.

Looking at the woman who was crying in Daniel’s arms, and Daniel’s expression that seemed as if it was about to slash a deep wound into her body, Ella was unfazed. She did not even blink, nor was she feeling remorseful.

“I did not push anyone. And besides, I tried catching her when she was about to fall, but she evaded me.”

“You are a witch. You were not happy that my Sis is together with brother-in-law, that is why you did this. How could you be so evil?”

“Hah, I pushed her? Are you sure about that?” Ella looked at Maggie and challenged.

“Brother-in-law, you also saw it when you came in. She is now denying it. Maybe we should call the police and let them find out what really happened.”

“Ella, I never knew that you will be this evil. I was planning on letting you go, but seeing that you could not wait to get rid of my baby, then I guess you don’t want your freedom anymore.”

“Are you sure that bastard was yours?” Ella asked sarcastically.

“What are you talking about?”

Hearing the conversation was heading in the wrong direction, Maggie and Kate tensed. They did not know if Ella was bluffing or if she actually knew something. But whatever the reason, they were not about to let Daniel have any doubts about the baby being his.

“Aaah, my stomach hurts.” Kate cried out loudly.

Daniel gave Ella one last pathetic but dangerous glance before he left with Kate in his arms.

Ella, who had not moved a step since all the fiasco started, looked at them with a blank expression.

Since Kate knew that the child was not Daniel’s, she might have wanted to get rid of the child and frame her for the murder. Then if that was the case, then this whole thing was far from over.

And just as she thought, Maggie’s sardonic voice reached her,

“Don’t think for a second that this is over. The police are on their way. I hope you will have a wonderful time behind the cold bars.”

When Ella heard that the police were on their way, she was stunned. If the police got involved, with Daniel’s influence, even if the baby turned out to be okay, and Kate was not affected in any way, she might end up serving a life sentence.

Her face paled and she hurriedly ran upstairs. Seeing that she had nowhere to run to, Maggie flashed a triumphant smile, before she followed her sister to the hospital.

At the hospital, Kate was quickly wheeled to the ER, while Daniel called his assistant to ensure that Ella did not run away.

He was so nervous that he kept on pacing back and forth as he waited for the lights to turn green.

“Brother-in-law, don’t worry. I am sure that Sis will be okay. As for the baby, she fell from a higher position…” Seeing that Daniel’s expression was turning scarier by the second, Maggie covered her mouth, as if she realized that she had just said something she was not supposed to say.

“What am I talking about? Of course, they will all the okay.”

After an unknown amount of time passed, the lights finally turned green. The doctor left the operating room with a slightly paler expression. You could tell that the operation was intense.

Daniel rushed over when he saw the doctor. “Doctor, how is she?”

“You are one lucky man. If you have reached here one minute late, I am sure that we will be talking about an entirely different thing. But thank God, both your wife and baby are fine.” the doctor said.

Maggie, who had followed Daniel, was stunned when she heard the doctor. “Doctor, are you sure? Isn’t the baby supposed to die from the fall?”

“What are you talking about?” the doctor frowned as she looked at her.

Sensing that she might have overreacted, Maggie felt a cold sweat trickle down her forehead.

“I…”

Daniel was only concerned about Kate so, he did not catch on Maggie’s weird reaction. After confirming that both Kate and the baby were okay, he finally heaved a sigh of relief.

After checking on Kate and making sure that she had been admitted to the best ward, and she had all the things she needed, Daniel finally left the room to answer his phone that has been ringing insistently.

“What is it?”

“Boss, I am sorry but when the police reached the house, Miss Smith was already gone.”

“Find her, and bring her to me. There is no way I am going to let her run. She has to pay for her crimes.” Daniel ordered coldly.

“Sir, what will you do if Old Master finds out about everything that has been going on?”

“Are you questioning me?”

“No sir, I do not dare to. Please pardon me.” the assistant said and hang up the phone.

“Miss Smith, you heard my boss. I have no choice but to hand you over.”

“But isn’t that woman and child safe? I am sure she wishes that the child should have died.” Ella said as she looked at the man, who was dressed in a black suit.

“What are you talking about?”

“Listen for yourself.”

[“Sis, what are you going to do about it?”]

[“I have been trying to find a chance and make it seem like an accident but I have come up with nothing up to now.”]

[“The more it stays inside of you, the more it endangers your life. Besides, it is not even my brother-in-law’s. Remembering how that ugly face looked like, there is no way you are going to fool everyone into thinking that the child is Danny’s.”]

When Daniel’s assistant finished listening to the entire conversation, he was so shocked that his mouth remained wide open.

“I told you that I did not push anyone. That bitch was just finding a way to get rid of the baby. Framing me was her best option since she knew that Daniel will never believe anything I say.”

“Tony, I am really tired of this life. I have loved Daniel all my life, and I have done everything there is to be done, just so I could please him, but I don’t deserve this. Please, just let me go and I will never show my face again.”

“Although I know that my grandfather would be disappointed, I can’t stand to see that bitch’s face for another second.”

“As for the recording, if you don’t believe me, you can tell Daniel to do a DNA test. After exhausting myself to love him for so many years, this is the least I could do for him. I hope he lives happily ever after with the love of his life.”
