I couldn’t shake the uneasiness in my chest. The hospital room was silent except for the steady beeping of the machines. My mother was asleep, her face pale against the pillow. I should have been resting too, but my mind wouldn’t stop racing.

I could not stop thinking about Jordan.

He was at home with Sebastian. But Joey was there too, and that thought made my stomach twist. I hadn’t seen my son in hours, and I needed to hear his voice, to know he was okay.

Without thinking, I grabbed my phone and went outside the hospital room. I did not want to disturb my Mom's sleep and after I was alone, I dialed Sebastian’s number. It rang once, twice… then a third time. My heartbeat quickened. Why wasn’t he picking up?

Finally, after what felt like forever, the call connected.

“Sebastian,” I breathed out in relief.

But something felt off. His voice was thick, sluggish, like he had just woken up—or like he had been doing something else entirely.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, but before I could respon

“Do you have to go with him?” I asked quietly, my voice barely above a whisper as Logan turned back toward me.Logan offered a soft smile, the kind that tried to reassure but didn’t quite reach his eyes. “It’s nothing serious. Just a quick conversation. I’ll be back soon.”I opened my mouth, wanting to ask more, to say I didn’t like the way that man had looked at him. But Logan gave me a subtle look. A don’t-worry look.I swallowed my words and nodded slowly. “Okay.”He leaned in, voice lower now. “If anything feels strange… text me. Right away.”Then he was gone. And I was alone.I stood in a corner of the grand hall, surrounded by people who sparkled under the golden light like they were born to belong here. My purse felt too tight in my hands. My dress, once something I’d loved, now felt too bold, too bright.I didn't know where to go.“Feeling lost?” a warm voice said beside me.I turned to see Susan—the kind woman I’d met earlier. She held a wine glass in one hand, her lipstick a

Early in the morning, I stood in front of the mirror, letting the makeup artist curl my hair. I had barely slept the night before. My stomach twisted in knots, and I kept biting the inside of my cheek. This was the mayor’s wife’s birthday party—not some neighborhood dinner. It was the kind of event where everyone wore designer gowns and spoke a language made of influence and money. The stylist helped me step into the dress Logan had sent for me the night before. It was a floor-length gown made of pale ivory satin, with a sweetheart neckline and delicate off-shoulder sleeves that rested gently on my arms. The fabric shimmered faintly under the light, like moonlight on calm water. A thin silver belt cinched at the waist, giving shape to my frame, and the skirt flowed gracefully to the ground with every step I took.Around my neck was a dainty diamond necklace—just enough sparkle to catch the eye without being overwhelming. My makeup was soft and n

The kitchen was filled with the smell of garlic and sesame oil. I stood near the stove, stirring the sizzling vegetables with one hand while holding Lily’s little drawing in the other.“Does it look like Daddy?” she asked, standing on the stool beside me, peering into the paper she had just finished.I glanced down and smiled. The drawing was of Logan—well, a version of him with bright blue eyes, a rainbow tie, and a crown on his head.“Yes,” I said gently. “Very handsome.”She grinned, pleased, then hopped down from the stool, skipping into the dining room. I looked at the clock. Logan would be back soon.Earlier that day, after he handed me the contract for the comic licensing, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I was overwhelmed. It was too big. And too hard to accept. So, I had decided to cook a full dinner tonight—to show my thanks, but also to draw a clear line. I used my sala

The morning sunlight poured through the windows, brushing across the marble floors of Logan’s mansion. The house felt unusually quiet, except for the distant sound of birds chirping outside. I stood by the kitchen counter, slowly stirring Lily’s porridge. A faint smile tugged at my lips as I thought of her.Despite everything—Logan’s distance, my role as just a nanny, the ache of unreturned feelings—I still felt a strange peace in moments like this. When Lily came down the stairs, her eyes sparkled. She ran straight into my arms.“Aunt Haley!” she squealed, hugging me tight.I bent down to her level. “Good morning, sweetheart.”“Daddy left early today,” she mumbled into my shoulder.“I know,” I said softly, brushing her hair back. “He had something important to do for work.”She pulled back and looked at me with those big, round eyes. “Will Daddy be okay?”I smiled, placing a kiss on her forehead. “He’ll be just fine. Logan would never let anyone hurt him. And he’d never let anyone hu

The apartment felt too quiet when I got back from my mother’s place. The lights were off, the hallway dim, and everything seemed still—like the air was holding its breath. I slipped off my shoes slowly, careful not to wake anyone. Lily was already asleep in her room. I peeked in, just to check. She was curled up under her pink blanket, hugging her stuffed bunny, her soft breathing barely audible.I didn’t go to my room. I didn’t want to lie awake staring at the ceiling again. I needed air. I needed noise. I needed to feel like myself, even if only for a few hours.I pulled out my phone and sent a quick message to Logan.Me: I’ll be back late. Don’t wait up.No explanation. Just that. I left the apartment and walked into the night. The sky outside was a deep gray-blue, not completely dark yet. The wind was cool against my skin, brushing through my hair like a whisper. My chest still felt heavy—tight from the things my mother had said. I could still see Jordan’s eyes, wide with fear as

On the way back from Ricardo’s boutique, I pretended not to have heard what he said to Logan.I didn’t want to think about it. I didn’t want to accept the fact that Logan’s mother—just like Sebastian’s world—would never truly accept someone like me. A divorced woman. A mother. A former nanny.Maybe I had always been that—a passing person in their fancy lives. Someone useful, but never permanent.“Haley,” Logan said gently from the passenger seat. “Are you okay?”“I’m fine,” I replied, staring out the window. He didn’t ask more. Maybe he knew I wasn’t ready to talk. Maybe he had his own thoughts to deal with. When we got home, Lily bounced into the living room with her sparkly hair clips still on, humming the tune Ricardo had played on the speakers earlier. I kissed her forehead and hugged her tightly.Logan stood nearby, watching us with quiet eyes. I could feel his gaze, heavy and searching, but I didn’t meet it.Then, my phone buzzed.Mom.I hesitated before answering. “Hello?”“Hal
