Catherine's POV

I step outside and freeze.

Danny is sitting on a huge chair. No... not a chair. A throne.

An actual throne-like thing, big and dramatic. His legs are spread, his elbows resting on the armrests.

In front of him, five cheerleaders are jumping up and down, screaming his name like he’s about to save the world.

“DAN-NY! DAN-NY! DAN-NY!”

My ears hurt already.

Right beside him, Natasha stands with one leg bent, calmly filing her nails.

Okay… what is going on here?

To Danny’s right, th

  • My Ex's Brother Is the Hockey Alpha    98. If I Am the One They Fear

Catherine's POV I turn on the bed for what feels like the hundredth time, dragging the pillow closer. The room is too quiet.Or maybe it is just me thinking too much again.I pick up my phone and stare at the screen, not because I expect anything new to appear, but because it gives my hands something to do, something to hold onto while my thoughts run in circles.Tomorrow is the school trip. That stupid trip Clinton would not stop talking about before, always bringing it up at the most random times, acting as if it was the biggest event of the year. And now that it's finally here, he suddenly goes quiet about it.I let out a small laugh, the kind that comes out when something annoys you but you don’t want to admit it fully.Men.Honestly.I was doing just fine on my own before he showed up with that ridiculous fake dating idea, and now he is acting as if he can just step back whenever he feels it's convenient for him.Not on my watch.I sit up straight, my grip tightening around my p

  • My Ex's Brother Is the Hockey Alpha    97. If She Ever Finds Out

Amy's POV The sound of my own breath is still uneven when everything finally slows down. My body sinks into the bed as the last wave passes through me, leaving behind that heavy, quiet feeling that makes it hard to move for a moment.I close my eyes briefly, letting myself stay there. Not thinking about anything, just listening to the faint rhythm of our breathing trying to return to normal…his closer, mine softer…until even that settles into something calm.He leans closer, and I feel his lips brush against my forehead, gentle in a way that always catches me off guard because it never matches the way everything else feels with him.“Naughty girl.”I let out a small laugh and pull the blanket up around myself, more out of habit than anything else.“You enjoy it,” he says, already shifting away, reaching down for his clothes scattered on the floor as if the moment we just shared has already been packed away somewhere in his mind.“I did.”That should feel like enough. It should. But I

  • My Ex's Brother Is the Hockey Alpha    96. Watching Her Break My Rules

Danny's POV I swear I try to think about something else as I walk…anything at all. School, classes, the fact that I haven’t eaten, even the weather would’ve been fine. But no, my brain decides to replay that scene on a loop like it’s my favorite movie. Her hand on his collar. The way she pulled him close. That kiss.I stop mid-step, my chest rising like I’ve just run a race, even though I’ve barely walked ten meters. I drag a hand down my face slowly.I really wish I could unsee things. There should be a reset button for moments you don’t like. But no. Here I am, forced to carry that image around like it’s something valuable. And the annoying part isn’t even the kiss. It’s the fact that she looked so calm doing it. Like it meant nothing. Like my existence didn’t matter in that moment at all. Which is funny, because I remember telling her clearly…several times…to stay away from Clinton. And yet, here we are.I let out a short laugh that sounds nothing close to amusement and keep walki

  • My Ex's Brother Is the Hockey Alpha    95. I Decide When It Ends

Catherine's POV The moment I step into the hallway, Natasha’s voice and drama fade behind me, but something else takes its place almost immediately.Clinton.Of course.Because apparently my brain has decided that no matter what chaos is happening around me, that boy must always be part of the problem. He still hasn’t called. Not one call. Not even a message.I let out a quiet scoff as I keep walking.Maybe he forgot.Maybe he got busy.Or maybe he just doesn’t care. That last thought settles in a little too easily, and I don’t like it, so I push it aside and reach into my bag for my phone.I’ll just check. Not call.Just check.Because there is a difference.I pull it out and unlock it quickly, my thumb moving over the screen as I scroll…Then I pause.Wait.What if something actually happened to him?The thought comes out of nowhere, and suddenly everything shifts. My chest tightens a little, and I stop walking. What if he’s in trouble and needed help, and I’m here getting annoyed

  • My Ex's Brother Is the Hockey Alpha    94. She Doesn’t Remember

Natasha's POV Before I can even enjoy it, Catherine’s hand is already on mine, yanking it away from her hair with more force than I expect.“What’s wrong with you?”She looks at me with that mix of confusion and irritation that almost feels insulting…like I’m the one who just did something strange, not her.I let out a quiet laugh.Oh, she’s good. She’s really good.Still acting.Still pretending nothing’s wrong, nothing happened, nothing exists beyond whatever story she’s decided to stick to.I swing at her, my hand moving before the thought even fully forms, but she dodges it cleanly, stepping aside at the last second…and suddenly, there’s nothing holding me up anymore. The ground rushes up.Face first.Sand gets into my mouth, rough and dry, and I push myself up immediately, spitting it out with a grimace.I sit there for a second, brushing my tongue against my teeth, making sure nothing’s stuck there, and then it hits me.The situation. The fall. The way she’s standing there, loo

  • My Ex's Brother Is the Hockey Alpha    93. Don’t Walk Away From Me

Natasha's POV I pull into the school parking lot harder than I need to. The car stops with a sharp jerk, and my bag slides off the seat. I don’t even bother fixing it. I just grab my phone, push the door open, and slam it shut behind me so loud it echoes across the almost empty space.Useless.That’s the only word sitting in my head right now.Alpha, elders, pack members… every single one of them stood there yesterday pretending to be powerful, pretending to be in control, only for everything to fall apart the moment it actually mattered. The Alpha himself stood in front of everyone, declared a death sentence with that deep, commanding voice of his, and then what…changed his mind five minutes later behind closed doors?I let out a dry laugh as I start walking toward the school building. So much for power. So much for authority. And I don’t even need to think too hard to know who’s behind it.Clinton.Of course it’s him.Who else would bend the Alpha that way? Who else would stand in
