Chapter 2

Author: Bluecrest
Hatred instantly flooded my heart.

I wanted nothing more than to drive this so-called family out at the moment.

But simply forcing them out would not make them experience true suffering.

“Well? Don’t just stand there silently!

“Amelia, all these years raising you were a total waste!”

My mother’s harsh words hit me. She had done this before, too. She moved in without ever considering my feelings.

“Athena and Elio have nowhere else to go. It’s not such a big deal for you to let them stay awhile.”

Even as she spoke, she was already telling Athena to pick a room.

“I’m taking this one. The extra space will be better for me and Elio.”

Back then, I did not refuse.

This time, too, I let it be.

“Of course. It’s the least we can do.”

The real show had only just begun.

Last time, I genuinely wanted to help them.

But how did they repay me?

They teamed up with James and pushed me to my death.

This time, I did help Athena.

I was going to make her taste my despair. I eagerly anticipated their arrival and waited for them to walk right into their doom.

James returned that evening.

He was quite displeased to hear that my mother had brought Athena over.

“Dear, why didn’t you talk to me first before letting your mother and sister move in? This is my house too!”

James threw his briefcase at me.

I had to wait on him hand and foot. I had to help him take off his coat every time, too.

This was typical behavior for him. He never treated me like a wife. I was just a maid to him instead.

Back then, I loved him so much that I would have done anything for him. I eagerly took care of his every need.

Yet, he had an affair with Athena and conspired with her to frame me.

All my affection for him had long since vanished.

“Athena is a single mother, James. She’s struggling. I couldn’t just turn my back on her.”

James only felt more disdainful when I said that.

To him, I had just invited some deadbeat relatives to mooch off him.

But his attitude shifted the second he realized Athena was beautiful.

She was not just prettier than me. She was stunning.

I was so foolish back then. I failed to see the desire in James’s eyes the moment he first looked at Athena.

Athena also took a liking to James. The two of them hit it off instantly.

I pretended not to notice the chemistry between them.

“It’s not easy for Athena. Being a single mother is tough… You should look out for her, Dear.”

His eyes gleamed with lust whenever he looked at Athena.

I had been too naive to notice their suspicious behavior before.

This time, if the despicable pair wanted to get together, I would be more than happy to give them a push.

James might be a cheater, but he had one redeeming quality. He would still let me manage most of his money.

In the past, he took it all back the second he set his sights on Athena.

He would not get that chance this time. I made an excuse to leave the house for supplies.

My mother kept bossing me around and demanded that I buy crab and imported beef for Elio.

She said her precious grandson could not stomach cheap food.

I did not argue and agreed to every demand.

It made no difference to me. They would not be enjoying this for long.

Fear instantly flashed across their faces.“Dear, dear, just let me in! I swear on my life, I’ll never cheat again!”James was practically ready to kneel and kiss my feet right then and there.I held the key in my hand.I let out a scornful laugh. “James, why should I believe your empty promises?”“Fine! I’ll prove it to you!”While Athena was still glaring at me in rage, James swiftly grabbed her by the hair and slapped her across the face.“You wretched woman! This is all your fault! If it wasn’t for you, Amelia would let me in! I’m going to make you pay for this!”“James! Have you lost your mind?”Athena screamed wildly and fought back with her fists.Unfortunately, her attacks were like mere scratches to him.He began punching and kicking her.Athena, already weakened by hunger and the freezing, lay covered in blood and fell unconscious after James’s assault.Elio, who was beside her, had already passed out from the freezing cold. When my mother saw Athena being beate

“Amelia, are you out of your mind?!” Athena viciously snarled at me.She looked ready to charge over and tear me apart with her bare hands.“You can choose not to. I’m not forcing you.”I shook the bottle of water in my hand.Realizing the soreness of the situation, James rushed toward the bars, dropped to his knees, and pleaded, “Dear, I’m begging you. Forgive me. Getting together with Athena wasn’t intentional. It was her!“She was the one who seduced me! I never would’ve cheated on you if it weren’t for her.“Just forgive me and let me in. Please!”He noticed my apartment was warm and fully stocked with supplies. In this apocalyptic world, a place like this was a secure haven. He was not kneeling and begging because he had feelings for me. It was a survival instinct kicking in.In the face of deadly cold, even someone as tempting as Athena meant nothing when it came to staying alive.Desire was a luxury for those who were safe and fed. At that moment, he could barely stay

I had secured the door with three layers of steel bars.I was not afraid of them at all.Initially, I had worried that during the worst of the frozen apocalypse, chunks of ice might fall from the sky.So, I had specifically installed impact-resistant materials for reinforcement. Even if this deranged group tried to break the door down, my home would stay strong.“Your money?”I opened the door and looked at him with utter disdain.“When we first got married, you were only making $5,000 a month. That wasn’t even enough to cover the mortgage. I not only worked a full-time job, but I also came home to cook and clean for you.“Then, when you started doing better financially, you told me to quit my job. So, I stayed home and managed everything for you. A live-in housekeeper alone would have cost you double of what I have spent in all these years.“But even if we play by your ridiculous rules, that money is still marital property. “I had every right to use that money however I sa

The next morning, I leisurely brewed myself a cup of coffee. The diesel generator I had prepared finally came handy.Even with the cold and the power outage, my penthouse still had everything I needed. After finishing breakfast, I was in a mood to answer my phone. The call was from Athena. It seemed that after my mother’s numerous failed calls yesterday, her phone had run out of battery.“Amelia! Where the hell have you been?!”Despite her sharp and vicious tone, I could tell how weak she sounded. Her voice was hoarse and trembling. She was clearly suffering from both cold and hunger. The house had neither heating nor electricity to boil any water.I did not buy them any emergency supplies either. If they still had nothing to eat at this point, they would soon die in this frozen apocalypse.“Where I am is none of your business!”I let out a scornful laugh. It had come to the point where I no longer needed to pretend.“Bring back water and food for us immediately! At that moment, I knew with absolute certainty that the apocalypse had begun exactly as before.I wondered what their fate would be without me gathering supplies for them.No one seemed overly concerned, except for my mother, who worried that her precious grandson, Elio, would catch a cold.Athena and James were not particularly worried. It was only the first day of the apocalypse. The power grid was still functioning normally, so those two had the heat running and were sleeping together.Every night, James would wait until I was asleep and sneak off to Athena’s room.He thought he was being so sly, but I knew exactly what was going on.I could smell her perfume all over him when he came back to bed.But I did not care. I was already over him.The more arrogant they became, the more devastating their downfall would be.Temperatures had plunged to –22 °F.I had intentionally avoided buying any supplies recently. The house was about to run out of resources.More terrifying s

I stocked up on large quantities of frozen food. I even went as far as to buy a diesel generator and several tons of heating coal. This way, I could still cook.I also bought massive rolls of insulation foam and hired contractors to retrofit the house and seal it up tightly.I also had multiple heavy-duty security bars installed on every door and window. If anyone ever discovered my stockpile, these precautions would save my life.During the frozen apocalypse, the rule of law vanished completely. There were even desperate stories of people trading their own children for food.I had to be my own first and last line of defense.I also stockpiled knives and other blades, just in case things got that desperate. My preparations were finally complete.I was fully ready to face the imminent frozen apocalypseLately, I never returned home early because I was busy building an apocalypse bunker. My mother looked at me with pure disdain the second I got home.“Where do you keep runni
