My Family Regrets Their Biasness During The Apocalypse
Penulis: Bluecrest

Chapter 1

Penulis: Bluecrest
“Amelia, Athena, Elio, and I will be staying with you for a few days. You don’t have a problem with that, do you?”

My mother always favored Athena since we were young. Even though this was my home, she treated her like she had every right to be here.

Rage surged within me, and I could barely conceal the hatred in my gaze.

I had returned to a week before the frozen apocalypse began.

My heart pounded when I saw that I was still whole and unharmed.

Without waiting for my reply, my mother walked in as she held her mischievous grandson, Elio, by his hand.

“Amelia, you’ve never cared for the family as much as Athena.

“She has always taken good care of me.

“You’re the one who got married, yet you didn’t even invite your own mother to live in your new house!”

Athena was my younger sister.

She was three years younger than me.

Yet she had a child, Elio, out of wedlock and became a mother far too early.

Athena was always my mother’s favorite. She saved the best things for her every time.

As the elder sister, I was forced to play second fiddle to Athena my whole life because my mother always said, “You’re the elder sister, you have to give in.”

I received hand-me-down clothes as a child. My chance for higher education suffered the same fate.

Athena and I both applied to college and were accepted. I was even accepted to a top-tier university.

My mother forced me to drop out because of the tuition fees. She insisted our family could afford to educate only one of us.

As the elder sister, I had to yield this opportunity to my younger sister.

Attending university became the lifelong regret I could never fulfill.

Fortunately, I met James later.

I always believed he was the greatest blessing in my life.

However, the moment my mother brought Athena into our home, James started making eyes with her instead.

When the frozen apocalypse arrived, he sided with my mother in forcing me to scavenge for supplies.

The already scarce supplies were nearly impossible to find.

When I got back, my mother confiscated the little I had managed to scrape together.

She hoarded everything in a locked stash and granted herself sole control over the distribution.

Meanwhile, Athena and Elio still got to eat very well.

James, her son-in-law, ate decent meals, while I, her own daughter, did not.

Every time I returned shivering from gathering supplies in the cold, she refused to offer me even a sip of warm water.

I was only allowed to eat their leftovers.

By the third day of the frozen apocalypse, I was barely hanging on.

It was then that I discovered Athena and James had long been having an affair.

They brazenly carried out their shameful acts in the study room.

When I caught them red-handed, I stormed in and slapped Athena right across the face.

But she and James backed me up against the window and shoved me out.

In that last second, I saw my mother watching television nearby.

She just glanced over with a look of pure indifference. She did not care if I lived or died.

My body was flung through the window and struck the icy ground below.

I froze solid on the way down, and my body shattered when I landed.

My blood was frozen.

Before I lost consciousness, I saw my own mangled remains scattered across the ice.

In the frozen apocalypse, my own family killed me and ended my miserable life.

This time, I would not make the same mistake twice.

Fear instantly flashed across their faces.“Dear, dear, just let me in! I swear on my life, I’ll never cheat again!”James was practically ready to kneel and kiss my feet right then and there.I held the key in my hand.I let out a scornful laugh. “James, why should I believe your empty promises?”“Fine! I’ll prove it to you!”While Athena was still glaring at me in rage, James swiftly grabbed her by the hair and slapped her across the face.“You wretched woman! This is all your fault! If it wasn’t for you, Amelia would let me in! I’m going to make you pay for this!”“James! Have you lost your mind?”Athena screamed wildly and fought back with her fists.Unfortunately, her attacks were like mere scratches to him.He began punching and kicking her.Athena, already weakened by hunger and the freezing, lay covered in blood and fell unconscious after James’s assault.Elio, who was beside her, had already passed out from the freezing cold. When my mother saw Athena being beate

“Amelia, are you out of your mind?!” Athena viciously snarled at me.She looked ready to charge over and tear me apart with her bare hands.“You can choose not to. I’m not forcing you.”I shook the bottle of water in my hand.Realizing the soreness of the situation, James rushed toward the bars, dropped to his knees, and pleaded, “Dear, I’m begging you. Forgive me. Getting together with Athena wasn’t intentional. It was her!“She was the one who seduced me! I never would’ve cheated on you if it weren’t for her.“Just forgive me and let me in. Please!”He noticed my apartment was warm and fully stocked with supplies. In this apocalyptic world, a place like this was a secure haven. He was not kneeling and begging because he had feelings for me. It was a survival instinct kicking in.In the face of deadly cold, even someone as tempting as Athena meant nothing when it came to staying alive.Desire was a luxury for those who were safe and fed. At that moment, he could barely stay

I had secured the door with three layers of steel bars.I was not afraid of them at all.Initially, I had worried that during the worst of the frozen apocalypse, chunks of ice might fall from the sky.So, I had specifically installed impact-resistant materials for reinforcement. Even if this deranged group tried to break the door down, my home would stay strong.“Your money?”I opened the door and looked at him with utter disdain.“When we first got married, you were only making $5,000 a month. That wasn’t even enough to cover the mortgage. I not only worked a full-time job, but I also came home to cook and clean for you.“Then, when you started doing better financially, you told me to quit my job. So, I stayed home and managed everything for you. A live-in housekeeper alone would have cost you double of what I have spent in all these years.“But even if we play by your ridiculous rules, that money is still marital property. “I had every right to use that money however I sa

The next morning, I leisurely brewed myself a cup of coffee. The diesel generator I had prepared finally came handy.Even with the cold and the power outage, my penthouse still had everything I needed. After finishing breakfast, I was in a mood to answer my phone. The call was from Athena. It seemed that after my mother’s numerous failed calls yesterday, her phone had run out of battery.“Amelia! Where the hell have you been?!”Despite her sharp and vicious tone, I could tell how weak she sounded. Her voice was hoarse and trembling. She was clearly suffering from both cold and hunger. The house had neither heating nor electricity to boil any water.I did not buy them any emergency supplies either. If they still had nothing to eat at this point, they would soon die in this frozen apocalypse.“Where I am is none of your business!”I let out a scornful laugh. It had come to the point where I no longer needed to pretend.“Bring back water and food for us immediately! Elio i

At that moment, I knew with absolute certainty that the apocalypse had begun exactly as before.I wondered what their fate would be without me gathering supplies for them.No one seemed overly concerned, except for my mother, who worried that her precious grandson, Elio, would catch a cold.Athena and James were not particularly worried. It was only the first day of the apocalypse. The power grid was still functioning normally, so those two had the heat running and were sleeping together.Every night, James would wait until I was asleep and sneak off to Athena’s room.He thought he was being so sly, but I knew exactly what was going on.I could smell her perfume all over him when he came back to bed.But I did not care. I was already over him.The more arrogant they became, the more devastating their downfall would be.Temperatures had plunged to –22 °F.I had intentionally avoided buying any supplies recently. The house was about to run out of resources.More terrifying s

I stocked up on large quantities of frozen food. I even went as far as to buy a diesel generator and several tons of heating coal. This way, I could still cook.I also bought massive rolls of insulation foam and hired contractors to retrofit the house and seal it up tightly.I also had multiple heavy-duty security bars installed on every door and window. If anyone ever discovered my stockpile, these precautions would save my life.During the frozen apocalypse, the rule of law vanished completely. There were even desperate stories of people trading their own children for food.I had to be my own first and last line of defense.I also stockpiled knives and other blades, just in case things got that desperate. My preparations were finally complete.I was fully ready to face the imminent frozen apocalypseLately, I never returned home early because I was busy building an apocalypse bunker. My mother looked at me with pure disdain the second I got home.“Where do you keep runni
