Chapter 1

I felt my heart break as I watched my fiance, Felix Hoffman, walk away with another woman in his arms, each heartbeat sending pain through my chest.

Mia Langley only had to playfully tug on his arm, and he agreed to come to the castle with her. I begged desperately, tears rolling down my face, but he remained completely unmoved.

I was Felix's fiancee, the person he was going to spend the rest of his life with, yet he didn't believe me and thought I was lying.

He scolded, "Why did you only remember you're pregnant now? Can you please stop being such a jealous bitch? You know Mia is hurt. I need to bring her out immediately."

I shook my head as hard as I could. "I didn't lie. You have to believe me."

A flicker of hesitation appeared on his face, then it was gone.

As soon as Felix heard Mia moving, his attention shifted to her, and he forgot all about me. Mia shrank into his arms, looking scared.

"Felix, my leg really hurts. If I don't get it treated soon, will it get worse? What if I can't walk normally after this? The fire is so big, and my eyes hurt from looking at it. I'm scared!"

Felix lowered his head to look at her, his eyes filled with tenderness. His voice was soft when he spoke. "Don't be. I'm here with you. You'll be alright."

Watching him show someone else his caring side stabbed me in the heart.

Mia suddenly handed me the wet blanket she was holding. "If you're scared, drape this over your body."

The more caring she was, the colder Felix's gaze became.

"It's too dangerous here. Hurry up. I'll wait for you outside." Felix quickly ran out of patience. He pushed my hand away and walked away without a second glance.

In order to live and protect my pup, I had to pull myself together. I draped the blanket over myself, wanting to follow them. But I had only taken a few steps when the fire engulfed the blanket and me.

I quickly threw the blanket aside and rolled around on the ground. After a brief struggle, the fire finally went out. But almost every part of me except my face was badly burned, and the burns stung intensely. That was when I realized the blanket had been soaked in alcohol.

Mia's kindness was a facade. She didn't give me the blanket out of goodwill. She wanted to kill me.

Suddenly, I heard a loud bang. A heavy object came crashing down from above, blocking the escape passage. I tried my hardest to push it away, but to no avail, as my last hope of escaping this place faded with it.

With my hands trembling, I called for help. The dispatcher quickly picked up.

After the dispatcher heard what was going on, she tried to calm me down. "Ms. Benson, don't panic. Find a place far away from the fire and stay there. Cover your nose and mouth, and crouch down low. The werewolves coming to rescue you are already on the way. Stay in contact with me until they get there, okay?"

I quietly acknowledged her and followed her instructions, dragging my injured body upstairs toward the area where the fire was weaker.

But the fire spread much faster than I expected. I started gasping for air, then asked anxiously, "It's getting more dangerous here. Can you hurry up?"

She apologized and said patiently, "Try looking for another exit."

This castle had been abandoned for nearly a century. The walls were old and badly damaged, and they could collapse at any moment. To keep outsiders from getting in, the doors and windows were boarded up. Other than the passage that had just been blocked, the only way out was through the roof.

When she heard that there was a roof, she asked, "How far is the rooftop from the ground? Are there bushes or anything that could cushion the fall?"

I stood at the edge and looked down. It was pitch-black, and the bottom was impossible to see. Jumping from this height would mean certain death.

The dispatcher could tell from my silence and sighed deeply. "You said you went there with Felix, right? Then he must still be nearby. Why don't you call him and ask him to come back for you? That might be the fastest and most effective way."

Even she knew this was the best way, but Felix hadn't even looked back or shown any concern for me after he left.

He did say he would wait for me outside, though. Maybe he would return to save me.

Holding on to that last bit of hope, I kept calling Felix. There was no answer, so I kept trying. On my eighth try, he finally picked up.

"Felix, please save me. This place…"

Felix fell silent. He was busy taking care of another woman at the time. How ironic that he had done something this stupid but didn't even dare say it out loud. The questioning that followed was a slow torture for Felix. It wouldn't kill him, but it tormented him little by little, making it all the more painful.Alex told Felix that they had detected a kind of drug in my body. It wouldn't make me lose consciousness within an hour, but I would lose all my strength.Later, they found a bottle of water outside the castle with the exact same ingredients as the drug.Felix recognized it as the water Mia had handed me. He finally realized that the person he'd been protecting all this time was actually the one who killed me.Felix suddenly laughed, his voice hoarse, as tears streamed down his face. He raised his hand and slapped himself twice, as if he hated himself more than anything in the world.Seeing how unstable he was, the questioning ended soon after. The investigation office ev

When Felix returned to the hospital room after finishing the paperwork, Mia was gone. He tried to call her, but his phone had somehow died. He realized something was wrong and started to panic.Felix remembered how heartbroken and desperate Fiona had looked when she cried. There was no need to make it look so real if she had been putting on an act. That thought filled Felix with dread. He immediately drove to the investigation office.I lay on the bed, as if I was asleep, but my face was as white as a sheet.Felix froze on the spot. "N-No way. This is impossible!"He tried desperately to reach me, but his legs felt like they were made of lead, each step taking all the strength he had. By the time he did, he had almost used up all his strength and finally broke down crying. This was the scene Fiona saw when she arrived. She charged over angrily and shoved Felix aside. "Don't touch Chloe with those hands that you touched Mia with. They're dirty!"Felix let himself be pushed to the

When Fiona came looking for Felix the next day, he was still leisurely enjoying breakfast with Mia.The anger Fiona had been holding in all night finally boiled over. She sent the breakfast table and dishes crashing to the floor, yelling, "Chloe's head was smashed open, and you still have the nerve to flirt with another woman!"Mia was so frightened that she grabbed onto Felix's arm.His expression darkened, and it was a while before he spoke. "Did Chloe come home last night? She must have seen me with Mia and gotten upset, so she told you to come and make a scene. Fiona, even if she's being unreasonable, can't you stop playing along with her? Chloe has already caused me enough trouble. I'm really tired."Fiona was so enraged that she lost control. She rushed forward and shoved Felix hard. "You're the one being unreasonable!"Tears streamed down her face, and even her voice had turned hoarse. "Your fiancee died tragically, and your pup died with her. Not only are you not worried,

Felix thought Mia was still shaken up by the fire, so he comforted her. "It's fine. It's just questioning. They won't do anything to us."But I knew Mia was afraid that her scheme would be exposed and that she'd end up in jail."Uh… Is C-Chloe coming with us?" Mia started to stutter.Felix didn't notice anything unusual about her. He nodded. "Yeah, she's always the troublemaker. She'll probably be crying and making a fuss again."A chill settled over my heart. I never thought Felix saw me this way."Mia, why is your hand so cold? Are you having a headache again?"Trying to stay as calm as she could, Mia shook her head. "I'm fine. It's just really windy tonight."Felix immediately took off his jacket and draped it over her body. The intimacy they displayed only made me sick. When they arrived at the investigation office, I was nowhere to be seen. Even the investigator, Alex Dunn, asked Felix, "Didn't your fiancee, Chloe, come with you?"Felix's expression stiffened. He said he

Felix immediately tried to contact me, but the moment he lit up his phone screen, he saw the message I'd sent. It was all about leaving and saying goodbye. No wonder the rescue team couldn't find me.He was relieved, and he told Arthur, "She just sent a message. Now she's gone missing on me. Of course, they can't find her."Arthur clearly had no interest in the mess between us. "No matter what, you can't risk your life like that."Felix smiled awkwardly and quietly apologized. But Arthur still couldn't shake the uneasy feeling in his gut. "If you're looking for some excitement before becoming betrothed mates, you'd better take your own safety seriously."It was Mia who insisted on dragging us there in the first place. Before we went in, I had even tried to warn them out of concern. But she looked at me with disdain. "Chloe, if you're scared, just admit it. We'll let cowards stay outside."Felix was upset too. "If you're this scared, then don't come out with me anymore."Humilia

Our argument ended in silence. Unwilling to fight me further, Felix turned and went back to his room, leaving me to clean up the mess on the dining table.Yet, tears blurred my eyes, and I couldn't see anything clearly.Barely half an hour passed before Felix changed into a fresh set of clothes and hurried out of the house. Mia had called him crying, saying she was drunk and couldn't find her way home.I suddenly remembered what happened when I first moved in with Felix. One night, I went out for a walk, but the place was so big that I got lost. I cried as I called Felix for help, hoping he would come pick me up.But even over the phone, I could hear how annoyed he was. "Are your eyes just for show? Why are you asking me? I'm not a map."I wandered around outside alone for five hours. The scar on my leg came from that night when I fell and slammed my knee against a rock so hard that it felt like the bone had shattered.By the time I got home, Felix was fast asleep. He never once
