Chapter 2

Author: Anonymous
After hanging up, I packed up all my belongings at home. I noticed that the house was very empty now.

I remembered that Shawn's company would be listed soon. He was busy every day and had not lived at home for a long time.

As Shawn's secretary, Britney ate every meal with him and even lived with him.

I was a little upset about it, but Shawn always said grimly, "Sonia, Britney is a great help to me at work. Could you stop being so petty?"

Therefore, I hid all my thoughts. Even when I saw them being affectionate as if no one else was around, and even if everyone in the office thought Britney was the best woman for Shawn, I put up with it because I could not bear to leave him.

He was a ray of light in my dark life.

My mom died of an illness the year Shawn and I got together. It was not long before my dad married his first love and my family life started to deteriorate.

My dad only liked the children he had with his first love, and he always hated me because he saw me as proof that he had once betrayed his first love. I was miserable back then.

Just when I was on the verge of breaking down and considering suicide, Shawn appeared. He held my hand and told me, "Sonia Zachman, be with me. I'll give you a home."

I got into a relationship with him.

In the second year of our relationship, I was meant to study abroad. However, my name did not appear on the application list for some reason. Shawn was even more anxious than I was, asking around if there was any way to fix it.

There was a professor at school who liked me and was willing to help, but I politely declined his offer. Shawn looked at us reluctantly, and the professor told me I would regret it.

However, I had no regrets when I saw how happy Shawn looked that I would be staying.

All I ever wanted was a love that only belonged to me. However, Shawn’s heart eventually let in another woman.

Perhaps it was when I had acute appendicitis and was lying alone in a hospital bed as Shawn watched the moon with Britney.

Perhaps it was on my mother's death anniversary, when Shawn left me alone to watch a movie with Britney, or when I had a miscarriage, and Shawn said, "If the baby's gone, there’s nothing we can do about it. Be more careful next time."

After saying that, he took Britney skiing just because she had a nightmare.

At that moment, I decided to give Shawn one last chance. I would dump him if he ever left me alone again.

Don't go soft."Of course I would not go soft. That was when I realized that Shawn was only able to build a strong career in a short period and become a rising star in the business world because of Martin's secret help, not his talent. Now that he had treated me this way, Martin was displeased, so he withdrew his help and held Shawn back a little. That was when I realized Shawn was not as capable as he seemed.Shawn seemed to notice something and tried to contact me frequently. He even came to my door, bringing me homemade meals and desserts.Liam drove him away a few time

I yelled in shock, "Dad!"Britney covered her mouth. "Sonia, you found a sugar daddy? It's all my fault. I shouldn't have come between your relationship. You can't just get yourself a sugar daddy. Have some self-respect!""Shut up!" My father and I spoke at the same time. My father stood up. His powerful aura accumulated over the years suppressed his embarrassment. That was when Shawn saw my dad's face. My father had been sitting with his back against him earlier. My father's face trembled with anger. "Sonia is my birth daughter. How can you talk about a sugar daddy?"Britney pursed her mouth dismissively. "Sir, you must control Sonia. She doesn't work and has depended on Shawn to support her all these years. Is she trying to dupe you by bringing you to a restaurant at this price range?""Shut up," Shawn said. Britney pursed her lips at Shawn's remark.Shawn ignored her and respectfully greeted my father, "Mr. Zachman."Hearing Shawn's words, Britney looked at me in shock.I d

Shawn and I had parted on bad terms. I did not want to explain to him that the baby had been his. He did not believe me, so I did not need to explain. The human resources staff saw me off when I left. When we parted, the lady sighed and said, "I'm sorry."I was surprised, but I shook my head. I could not blame her. She was just a human resources staff. I could not blame the company owner either, because Shawn was more powerful than him.Everyone had their struggles.Just when I thought I should return to Summerstone, my dad showed up.I had mixed feelings about seeing him again. He was much older, and his hair was gray now. I had not talked to him since my mom died. I hated him, but now I wondered whether I was justified. He and my mother had an arranged marriage. They had no feelings for each other, but they gave birth to me and played the role of a loving couple and kind parents to appease their families. However, acting was still acting at the end of the day. Things had suddenly taken a turn with my job search. I had an offer from a small company, so I washed up and got ready to go to work. Before I left, Liam grabbed me, gave me a box, and motioned for me to open it. I opened it to find a new phone.I felt a bit troubled. "This is too expensive. I can't take it."Liam replied, "It's to celebrate your new job. You should get rid of your old phone, so take this new one!"Liam's insistence made me accept it.When I got to the company, the human resource staff received a phone call and instantly looked troubled.Something felt off, but I could not figure it out.The human resource staff looked at me and hesitated for a long time after the call.I smiled wryly. "Did someone pressure you?"With a wry smile and a nod, she led me to an office and said, "Boss said he wants to talk to you."Just as I was about to walk in, the staff suddenly stopped me and whispered, "Boss' porcelain is all fake. It’s the kind that costs 10 dollars and incl

I temporarily moved into Liam's place.Liam was a postgraduate student. Every day, apart from studying, he went travelling. Liam and I slowly found more and more things to talk about.I soon learned that the cheerful Liam was actually very thoughtful. He took good care of me and was my emotional support rock. He would motivate me and get me out of the trap of self-doubt. He would drag me out to travel. Thanks to him, I rarely thought about Shawn.I wanted to get a job, and Liam was supportive. He accompanied me to update my resume and analyze the job positions one by one. However, I got no news after sending out my resume. I could not resist calling around. Finally, someone tactfully said, "Ms. Zachman, why don't you think about who you've offended lately?"I was silent. Shawn was the only person I had offended lately. With that in mind, I became a little depressed, covering my face and crying.Liam came home and saw me crying with my eyes red and swollen. He clenched his fists. "

Shawn's question shocked me.I saw the panic in Britney's eyes and understood Shawn's question. I laughed so hard that I started crying again. How ridiculous. Shawn was my first love and the only man I had ever been with, yet he was questioning me because of Britney's instigation.I was laughing so hard that I bent over. I was the only one laughing in the whole room, which made Shawn frown. "Have you lost your mind?"I straightened up and wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes. Looking at the man in front of me, whom I had loved deeply for four years, I felt so disappointed. Our relationship had been a joke. I calmed down and answered, "I’ve probably lost my mind. Shawn, would you believe me if I told you that the baby was yours?"Shawn said without thinking, "You're still lying to me!"I felt sad but still wanted an answer. "Britney told you otherwise, right? Do you trust Britney that much?"Shawn finally saw the panic in Britney's eyes. He reached out and pulled Britney in
