Chapter 5

Author: Anonymous
When I came out of the bathroom, I found Nathan Arnault lounging on the couch, casually spinning my phone in his hand.

"Guess who just called you."

I looked at him in confusion. "My parents?"

Nathan gave me a mischievous grin. "That ex of yours."

That was when I realized he was jealous.

I immediately softened my voice and reassured him, "Jonathan and I haven't been in touch for ages. Besides, I'm already your wife, so don't be upset."

The word "wife" clearly pleased him, and he couldn't keep the smile from spreading across his face.

"How can I call myself your husband when I haven't even met your parents?"

I hesitated. "You want to meet them now?"

Nathan nodded solemnly. "What? Are you embarrassed to introduce me to them?"

Of course not!

Nathan was the perfect man, both in terms of his looks and his family background. If anything, I felt like I was the lucky one in our relationship.

It was just that…

I rubbed my nose awkwardly.

"Everything happened so suddenly that I haven't even had time to tell my parents that the wedding with Jonathan is off. If I show up with you, they'll probably have a heart attack."

When Jonathan first suggested having a baby with Isabelle, I'd only been angry. It wasn't until I saw her prenatal examination report that I'd finally given up on him for good.

Nathan immediately put on a wounded expression.

"Are you planning to keep me a secret for the rest of my life? That's pretty cruel, don't you think?"

He even pretended to sniffle as he spoke, looking so pitiful that I couldn't take it anymore.

I shrugged helplessly. "Fine, you win. Can I at least call them first?"

Nathan immediately dropped the act, his eyes lighting up. "Of course! Come here, honey. Let me give you a shoulder massage.

"Oh, and what should I bring them? What do your parents like? Do you think they'll like me? What do they do for fun? Is there anything I should know before meeting them?"

His endless questions made me laugh.

"Relax. My parents aren't going to eat you alive. Besides, I'll be right there with you. You have nothing to worry about."

Despite my reassurance, Nathan was still nervous enough to pace back and forth on the balcony, rehearsing what he was going to say when he met my parents in a few days.

After sending Mom and Dad a message, I noticed that I had more than 99 unread messages on my phone.

I frowned and opened them.

Sure enough, they were all from Jonathan.

"Who the fuck was that man who answered your phone? Are you cheating on me? Have you lost your damn mind?"

When I didn't reply, he became even more furious.

"No other man would ever want you! You'd better get your ass back here and apologize!"

"And who the hell gave you the right to cancel my bank cards? Isabelle needs money for her prenatal appointments! Don't you understand that? Get them working again!"

Jonathan was genuinely panicking.

After all, no matter how badly we'd fought in the past, there had never been another man involved in our relationship.

This time, I'd been ignoring him for several days, and everything suggested that I was serious about ending things rather than simply throwing a tantrum.

He had also grown so accustomed to living off my money over the years that he couldn't manage without my financial support.

Jonathan kept sending me insulting messages, desperately trying to provoke a response.

Meanwhile, I was thoroughly fed up with him. I couldn't understand how I'd ever been so blind as to fall for a man like that.

After blocking him, I took a photo of our new marriage certificate and posted it on Instagram with a caption, "Here's to the rest of our lives together, Mr. Arnault."

The moment they arrived at the police station, Isabelle dropped onto the floor and began crying."Officer, you have to help me! That man has been harassing my boyfriend and me. He even tried to rape me!"Gideon immediately backed her up. "He looks like a decent guy, but I can't believe he'd do something so disgusting!"Between the two of them, they quickly made Jonathan sound like a dangerous criminal. In the past, Jonathan had always been the one making false accusations against me. Now that someone was doing the same thing to him for the first time, he was completely at a loss for words. All he could do was keep repeating, "I didn't do that!"The police soon obtained the hospital's security footage. After reviewing it for a couple of minutes, they quickly pieced together the chain of events. One of the officers scoffed."None of you are innocent here. You all brought this mess on yourselves."The officer's words left all three of them humiliated and embarrassed. They exchang

Jonathan completely lost his temper."Who the hell does she think she is? Does she seriously think I can't find someone better than her? I'm not putting up with that bitch's attitude anymore!"With that, he headed straight to the hospital. On the way there, he couldn't help congratulating himself on how clever he'd been. At least he'd had the foresight to keep his options open. But when he walked into the hospital, looking thoroughly pleased with himself, he found Isabelle snuggled up in the arms of a man he'd never seen before."You haven't come to see me in so long. I was starting to think you'd forgotten about me," she said coyly.Gideon Grant caressed her waist as he replied, "How could I ever forget you? I've just been busy lately."Jonathan stopped dead in his tracks, staring at them in disbelief. For a moment, he thought he must be seeing things. But even after rubbing his eyes, he was still looking at the same scene.Under their horrified gazes, Jonathan lunged forward

I instinctively turned around and, sure enough, saw Jonathan's face.He glared furiously at Nathan."I knew it was you! Even back in college, I could tell you had a thing for my wife! I can't believe you actually came between us and ruined our relationship!"Nathan was a foot taller than Jonathan. He looked down at him and asked, "Do you need a pair of lifts so we can have this conversation at eye level?"I couldn't help bursting into laughter. Nathan really knew how to hit someone where it hurt.Seeing that I was laughing at him instead of taking his side, Jonathan gritted his teeth."Mikayla Matthews! You're nothing but damaged goods! All I did was have a baby with Isabelle without your permission. Did you really have to take things this far—ouch!"Before he could finish, Nathan punched him hard across the face.Jonathan fell to the ground, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. He raised a trembling finger and pointed at Nathan."Y-You actually hit me!"Nathan flexe

Nathan insisted that we go to an attorney to formalize our postnuptial agreement, but it wasn't because he wanted to protect his assets from me.Instead, he wanted to transfer most of his wealth into my name. I tried desperately to talk him out of it, but Nathan refused to budge.By the time I finished signing the thick stack of documents at the attorney's office, I could only shake my head helplessly."Aren't you worried I only married you for your money?"Nathan wrapped an arm around my shoulders and proudly lifted his chin. "Wouldn't that be great? At least I'd know I was rich enough for my wife to marry me for my money."There was something I'd been wanting to ask him for a long time, and I finally decided to bring it up."Nathan, why did you want to marry me? And why are you so nice to me?"Everything between us had happened so quickly.I'd first met Nathan years ago, when I arrived on campus as a freshman, completely unfamiliar with my new surroundings. He was the first

Less than five minutes after I posted our marriage certificate on Instagram, Jonathan called me.Already irritated, I blocked his number and his account on every other social platform. But the peace lasted only a few seconds. Jonathan worked in sales, so getting another phone number was hardly a challenge for him.I sighed helplessly. It was obvious he wasn't going to leave me alone until I answered. After taking a deep breath, I finally picked up.The moment the call connected, Jonathan's fury-filled voice boomed from the receiver."Mikayla Matthews! Who the hell did you marry? Where did you find that pretty boy? I saw the photo on your marriage certificate! Fine, he's better-looking than me, but so what? You can't live on looks alone! God, you're so shallow!"Until he'd seen my Instagram post, Jonathan had still been clinging to the hope that my new relationship was nothing more than a stunt to make him jealous. But the marriage certificate had destroyed that hope. What in
