Chapter 10

작가: Belen
I never felt myself hit the ground.

In the instant my awareness winked out, a gentle voice wrapped around me, like moonlight settling on water.

“Child, you've come. Your mother has been waiting for you.”

Then there was light. A pure, endless white, pouring in from every direction, so warm it made me want to cry.

When I came to again, someone was holding me.

A scent I knew.

I opened my eyes. A woman had her face buried in my shoulder, her whole body shaking.

Her hair was shorter than I remembered

  • My Four Daddies’ Regret After I Died   Chapter 11

The night we went back, heavy snow was falling over the shifter world. My mother changed into clean clothes and spent more than two hours in the kitchen.I sat outside and waited for her.The Moon Goddess's voice spoke at my ear.“Your mother carries the white wolf bloodline. Her hands have healed countless lives. Yet those four wounded her, betrayed her, drove her to her death, and they harmed you as well. The grace of the Moon Goddess never shelters those who betray.”My mother came out of the kitchen carrying a tray. Four bowls on it, steam curling up.The soup the four of them loved most. She'd made it for twenty years and remembered every one of their tastes. She carried the tray and pushed open the great doors of the palace. My four daddies were inside.Ever since I fell from the terrace, the whole palace had been turned upside down. The four of them were grey-faced and haggard, stubble grown out, eyes sunk deep, the look of men who hadn't shut their eyes in a month. The instant

A woman had her face buried in my shoulder, her whole body shaking. Her hair was shorter than I remembered, and there were fine lines at the corners of her eyes. But when she lifted her head to look at me, those eyes were exactly like mine.“Emma.”Her voice was choked, her lips trembling hard, but she said my name with everything she had.It was my mother.I threw myself into her arms and sobbed. She cried too. The two of us held each other, neither able to get out a whole sentence. We cried until our voices were gone, until there were no tears left, and only then did my mother wipe her face and pu

Vivian knelt on the floor, stunned, for a few seconds. Then she started to laugh—a wild, hysterical sound dragged up from somewhere deep.“A mongrel? I'm the mongrel?” She laughed and shook her head. “Emma's the mongrel. To this day not one of you knows whose child she really is. My mother was right. Not a single one of you is worth a damn.”She pulled a flare from her pocket, aimed it out the window, and fired.A few seconds later, twenty or thirty men in black surged in over the courtyard wall, steel pipes and machetes in their hands. The two sides crashed together and the room dissolved into chaos.I got to my feet in the corner. No one was watching me.I slipped past the tangle of bodies and walked out. The whole way I heard the screaming behind me, the snap of breaking bone, the heavy thud of someone hitting the floor.I didn't look back. There was an abandoned shack in the back garden of Vivian's villa. Lily had told me my mother used to live there. The door was rotted through, a

Vivian's legs gave out on the spot. She dropped to her knees with a thud, her voice trembling. “Daddy Darius, hear me out. Emma and I were just messing around…”Darius kicked the chair in front of him. It smashed against the wall and broke in two.“Messing around?” He leaned down and ground out each word. “And buying off the silver prison guards, was that messing around too?”Rex stepped forward and threw a document envelope down in front of her. It split open, and a stack of account records spilled out. Vivian's name and the wire transfers were written across them, plain as day.Vivian stared at the papers, her lips working, no sound coming out.So Orion hadn't actually disbelieved me that day. After I'd finished talking, the first thing he'd noticed was that the “Omega servants” around me were off. The thick calluses on their palms, the wide, steady way they walked. He'd said nothing at the time, afraid it was some new scheme of the rogue wolves. The moment he got back he told the ot

I pretended to nod along. But the moment I actually saw them, I shoved off the people beside me and threw myself forward, grabbing Orion's arm.“The guards who tortured me in the silver prison were all bought off by Vivian. She's the one who's kept me locked up here.”Something white crossed Vivian's face, but only for a second.“Emma, you're talking nonsense again.” She turned to Orion, her face full of heartbreak. “Daddy Orion, Emma keeps saying things like this lately… has her condition gotten worse again?”“I'm not! Daddy Orion—”“Enough.”Orion peeled my hand off his arm.“Emma, I thought you'd been getting along with Vivian here. You nearly killed her more than once and she never held it against you, and you're still going after her now.” He looked at me, long and deep, a flicker of disappointment in his eyes. “I won't come to see you again.”He turned and walked away.I watched the door close behind him.It was over. The last person who might have believed me had given up on me

Rex cut in coldly. “Better to send her back to the silver prison. She was at her most obedient over there these past years.”And every one of them actually nodded.I stared at Rex's face for three seconds.“Daddy Rex, you think I haven't been tortured to death yet, so it's still not enough?”The room went dead quiet.Rex froze. “Emma, what are you talking about? I gave orders for the guards to take good care of you. What torture?”Those four years. The guards whipping me with silver, forcing me to wash clothes, sometimes leaving me days with nothing to eat. They always said the same thing. “Rex told us to teach you a real lesson, until you know your place.”I said all of it, one word at a time.Rex stood there, his hands shaking. His mouth opened two or three times, and only one thing came out. “I never. I really never said that.”Vivian chose that moment to murmur softly, “Could Emma have made it up…”Rex let out a long breath, his face like a man who'd grabbed a lifeline. “Right. My
