Chapter 2

Author: Lord of Feasts
I stared at Fennrick in silence.

Seriously… how full of himself was he?

However, I couldn’t deny my racing heartbeat.

At this point I was convinced Fennrick had hit me with some kind of fae glamour spell. Because I was, unfortunately, just a little obsessed with him.

I follow a ridiculous number of hot guy influencers, but none of them—and I mean none of them—looked like this fox fae.

Fennrick’s physique walked that razor‑thin line between sensual and elegant. It was a feast for my eyes.

If I could just touch-

Nope.

No.

Riches first. Physical contact later.

If I became a millionaire, I could find any man I wanted. That was how I comforted myself.

I marched into the bathroom, flinging one last line over my shoulder.

“Relax, sweetheart. I’m definitely not interested in you.”

When I came back out, wearing a tiny slip dress and towel‑drying my hair, my reflection in the hallway mirror was almost intimidating even to me.

I mean, come on. My looks weren’t exactly average. I refused to let a fox fae walk all over me in my own home.

But Fennrick didn’t even blink.

He just frowned slightly. “Miss Lockhart, you’re blocking my view of the television.”

…Wow. Okay. Fine.

The next seven days basically became a full‑on war of attrition.

When he lounged shirtless, I wore one of his oversized dress shirts.

When he went jogging in grey sweatpants, I would go for a swim in a bikini.

At dawn, he did ab workouts on the balcony. So I sat next to him and did core exercises.

Neither of us was willing to give in.

However, all that bravado on my end was an act.

When I saw my bestie’s fox fae, I nearly drooled.

Hers wasn’t “mistrained” like Fennrick. Sure, he was not as handsome, but his looks were still miles above any regular guy.

My bestie, Lila Merrick, was completely hooked. It took me a few days before she agreed to meet me.

While her fox fae prepared lunch, she whispered, “So? How’s yours? Is he good in bed?”

“…I’ve not tried that.”

“What?! Don’t be shy! They’re literally like toys made for our pleasure. You don’t need to feel guilty about anything!”

Right as she said that, her fox fae silently appeared behind us, eyes shimmering, lashes wet.

His lips trembled as he said, “Master… am I only a toy to you?”

The expression. The tone. Straight out of an incubus’ playbook.

Lila froze. She then casually stood up and said, “I was exaggerating. Why would I think that of you? You know how much I care about you.”

He ignored me completely and yanked her into his arms.

“Then show me.”

Lila peeked at me over his shoulder, silently telling me to leave.

Fine. I wouldn't be a third wheel.

When I got home, Fennrick was still watching the finance channel. His legs was spread out lazily, while his arm was draped over the back of the couch.

As I walked by, the angle of his shorts revealed the sharp line of his thigh disappearing into shadow.

A few days ago, I would’ve gotten myself a pair of black stockings and stretched a leg right in front of him just to mess with his head.

But after seeing Lila’s fox fae?

My mood was dead.

What was this miserable dry, flavorless existence I was living?

At least tomorrow marked day seven.

He said he’d make me rich. But if he couldn’t keep his words, I was absolutely going to devour him alive. One way or another, I was not walking away empty‑handed.

Just one more night. I could do it.

I ignored him, hopped in the shower, slipped into my ugly-but-comfy pajamas, and went straight to bed.

Fennrick came knocking a few times.

Once. “Do you want fruits?”

Twice. “How about milk?”

Thrice. “Autumn? Are you asleep?”

I snapped.

I threw the door open and pointed at him. “Knock again and I swear I’ll kiss you!”

His expression didn’t change. “Go ahead. Try it.”

…Was that a threat? Well, it worked.

I slammed the door shut and spent the next hour tossing and turning, completely unable to sleep.

With everything Fennrick had now, did he really need this kind of method to tame desire?Only when I stepped closer did I finally see it.A lattice of brutal scars carved across his back. Ugly, jagged, raw. The mark of Fennrick’s ordeal as the owner had said. That must’ve hurt badly. The thought stung somewhere deep in my chest.I didn’t even realize Fennrick had moved until he was right in front of me, his voice low with amusement.“Miss Lockhart, your peeping habit hasn’t changed at all.”My throat tightened. I forced a stiff reply, “Have you figured out how you want me to thank you yet, Mr. Thorne?”His gaze darkened. “Are you in a hurry?”“…A little.”His expression snapped cold. Without another word, he turned and walked back into his room. For the next three days, Fennrick didn’t show his face once. The next time I heard anything about him was on the news.A car had gone off a bridge in a violent crash. It was Fennrick’s.My heart plummeted.I bolted out into the s

My colleague was helping me out of the restaurant when she suddenly gasped. She patted my shoulder with excitement and pointed ahead.“Autumn, look! Hot guy at twelve o’clock!”A man stood there in the cold night air, shoulders squared, wind tugging at his coat.It was Fennrick. How did he even find this place?I tore my gaze away, tightening my grip on my colleague’s arm. “Let’s go.”Fennrick closed the distance in a few strides and grabbed my wrist. My colleague let out another scandalized squeak. “You two know each other?!”“No.”I tried pulling back. It’s ridiculous, really. I’d experienced his strength before. I was as likely to break free as a mice from a hawk’s talons.“Autumn,” he murmured, low and steady, “if you don’t explain, I won’t stop following you.”I paused. He wasn’t wrong. Running wouldn’t solve anything. So I told my colleague to go ahead.Fennrick took out the return slip. My signature glared back at me with Vulpyr Hall’s red stamp stating “Return Acc

What if I let Fennrick sleep with me and I lose my shot at getting rich? That thought snapped me back to reality. At the very last second, I panicked and ducked away.“No. We can’t.”I practically launched myself off the sofa, scooped up my scattered clothes, and bolted to my bedroom.Behind me, Fennrick froze mid-movement.He didn’t make a single sound for the rest of the night.⸻The next morning, the owner messaged me.The one-month return policy was coming up soon.He wanted to confirm if I planned to send Fennrick back.My mind blanked for a moment. So Fennrick had already been with me for a full month.I used to think time with him felt dreadfully long. Now it felt like days had vanished in a blink.I decided to go to Vulpyr Hall and ask the owner a few things in person. The moment the owner saw me, he practically jogged over, eyes shining.“That Fennrick Thorne didn’t run back this time! Didn’t I injured my foot last night?I kicked off my shoe to check, lifting my heel and twisting to see the sole. The cut had almost completely healed, and it wasn’t painful at all.Did Fennrick…?Nope. I was not gonna thinking about that. Not going there. However, the more I tried not to think, the more it all felt suspicious.Wasn’t he the one who said absolutely no physical contact? Why did he…?That night, I was jolted awake again by the sound of him working out on the balcony.Honestly, my first concern was the neighbors, not the noise itself. So I mumbled, half-asleep, “Can you keep it down? I don’t want the building management coming after us.”He stopped mid‑movement and slowly turned toward me.My eyes darted away from the sinful spread of abs and chest.God, not again. Not the hunger, please. But he stepped right into my space, forcing my gaze back up to his.“There’s a way.”Fennrick exhaled softly, voice low and gravelly, eyes sharp with intent.“Let me k

I yanked Fennrick closer by the collar, lifting my chin.“I’m afraid you’re the one who won’t dare.”Fennrick didn’t hesitate. He leaned in and pressed a kiss to my chin.It caught me completely off guard. My whole body locked up.Heat surged from that single point of contact, flooding through me so fast my fingertips tingled.I forgot to breathe. From my angle, I could see his lashes lower as his eyes drifted shut. For a second, it almost looked like he was… savoring it.⸻The next day, I skipped overtime and went to a gathering, though I was mentally nowhere near the party.Every time I zoned out, my mind replayed that ridiculous moment from the night before.A coworker caught me spacing out and made me down three drinks.I finished all three, then poured myself more.By the end, I was drunk enough to call Fennrick to pick me up.He came fast.I limped toward him, and he strode over.“What happened to your leg?”I lifted my foot, swaying a little.“Not my leg—my fo
