Chapter 4

Author: Moore
Adrian did not send me another message for a long time.

Three minutes later, he finally replied.

“Stop being stubborn. How could you possibly be willing to leave me?”

I ignored him.

At that moment, the class group chat was extremely lively, with everyone discussing their plans for college.

Someone suddenly suggested throwing a graduation party.

“We’re all going to different places for college soon. It’ll be hard to get everyone together afterward, so why don’t we have a party while we’re still all here?”

The entire group immediately started cheering.

That evening, I arrived at the party on time.

The venue was filled with bright lights and a lively atmosphere.

Not long after I sat down, Adrian and Sienna walked in one after another.

They tried their best to pretend they barely knew each other, but the occasional touch of their fingers revealed the undeniable intimacy between them.

Adrian’s friend Marcus walked over with a bottle in his hand, slightly unsteady on his feet, and pointed at Adrian while laughing.

“You two are graduating already, and you still haven’t gotten together with Elena?”

His words instantly caused everyone to cheer.

They clapped along and shouted,

“Get together! Get together!”

Adrian and I had always been inseparable, so everyone had long assumed we were a couple.

Even after he became closer with Sienna, people simply believed he was only looking after my younger stepsister.

If I had not known the truth, I might have blushed under everyone’s teasing and secretly looked forward to his confession.

But now, I simply sat there like an outsider, quietly watching him.

Adrian instinctively glanced toward Sienna, then quickly lowered his head, remaining silent with a conflicted expression.

Sienna sat in the corner, her face already pale.

Marcus did not notice the tension at all and kept leading the teasing.

“Are you even a man? The atmosphere is already perfect. Aren’t you going to confess while you have the chance?”

“Who was it that used to follow Elena everywhere, saying he would protect her forever?”

“You two are perfect together! Why don’t you just get married right here?”

Amid the cheers and laughter, I waited for Adrian to deny it.

But to my surprise, Sienna was already close to tears, while Adrian only stood there looking at me without saying a word.

I sighed and was about to explain everything myself when Sienna suddenly stood up, tears streaming down her face.

“There’s nothing between my sister and Adrian. Stop making things up!”

The entire room fell silent for a moment.

Someone immediately blurted out,

“Why are you so emotional? Don’t tell me you and Adrian…”

Marcus noticed the awkward atmosphere and quickly interrupted, trying to smooth things over.

“Don’t say nonsense. Sienna is crying because she probably didn’t do well on her applications, right? Did you get rejected?”

“Don’t tell me you couldn’t even get into the California Institute of Technology. Then you won’t be able to keep being Elena and Adrian’s little tagalong anymore.”

Everyone burst into laughter again.

Sienna finally covered her face and began crying quietly.

But Adrian acted as if he did not notice her at all.

Instead, he walked straight toward me.

I frowned and took a step back. I no longer wanted to have anything to do with this person.

Adrian noticed my reaction. His expression darkened, and his breathing became heavier as he reached out and grabbed my wrist.

“Come on, don’t be mad at me anymore. You haven’t spoken to me for an entire week. What exactly did I do wrong? Just tell me, and I’ll fix it.”

“You can’t keep giving me the silent treatment. Aren’t we supposed to go to the California Institute of Technology together? We were even going to get married someday.”

The moment he finished speaking, Marcus suddenly exclaimed in shock.

“Adrian, you didn’t know? The teacher just posted it in the group chat. Elena was accepted by Harvard University.”

A few months later, I suddenly received a call from an unfamiliar number. When I answered, I realized it was my father.I had no idea how he managed to find my new number. His voice sounded exhausted, but there was still a hint of blame in his tone.“Elena, you were being too stubborn. You left for Harvard without saying anything. Do you even still consider this family?”I had long since grown tired of his self-righteous lectures.I interrupted him coldly.“If you have something to say, just say it.”Only then did my father slowly continue.“Your stepmother said that since you were able to go to Harvard, you must have saved quite a bit of money. Did your grandmother secretly leave you some savings before she passed away?”Before I could answer, he hurriedly continued.“Sienna’s expenses at school are getting higher, and the family really can’t keep going like this. Can you help us out for now?”After hearing those words, I felt the last bit of warmth I had left disappear completely.I

I returned home. The moment I stepped through the door, my parents came over to congratulate me on receiving my acceptance letter from Harvard University. My stepmother had rarely cooked before, but that day she prepared an entire table full of dishes, all of them exactly the kind of food I liked. If it had been in the past, every meal at home would have been centered around Sienna’s preferences, and no one would have cared about what I wanted to eat.My father walked over quickly and took my hand, his voice gentle.“Are you hungry? Sit down and wait for a little while. The steak will be ready soon, and we can start dinner.”After saying that, he hurried back into the kitchen.Watching his busy figure, I felt a faint ache in my nose.I thought that even though my father had always favored my stepmother and Sienna, perhaps there was still a place for me in his heart.Even if I had lost Adrian, I still had my father.I still had a family that belonged to me.The atmosphere at the dinner

Seeing me leave, Sienna quickly reached out and tugged at Adrian’s sleeve, finally pulling him back to reality. He immediately grabbed her hand, and the two of them hurried out of the party after me.They had not gone far when Adrian caught up with me. He grabbed my arm, unable to hide the anger on his face.“What has been going on with you lately? I already told you that if I did something wrong, you should just tell me. Why won’t you say anything?”I no longer wanted to waste another word on him.I forcefully pulled my arm away from his hand.Adrian took a deep breath, his voice filled with frustration and confusion.“Elena, you’re really being unreasonable this time. We agreed long ago that we would go to California for college together, but you secretly applied to Harvard without telling anyone.”“Why would you do something like this?”He stared at me intensely, his face filled with genuine confusion.I frowned and answered coldly and directly.“My qualifications are enough for Har

After Marcus finished speaking, everyone looked at each other in surprise. Many people immediately pulled out their phones to check the class group chat.Everyone knew how much I had cared about Adrian before this. They had all assumed that I would definitely go to California with him for college.Adrian staggered back a few steps, tilting his head slightly as he stared at me in disbelief.Sienna, who had been sitting nearby, suddenly looked up as well. After the initial shock faded, a faint trace of satisfaction quietly appeared in her eyes. The private room instantly became lively.“Oh my god, Elena Riley actually got into Harvard? That’s incredible!”“With Elena’s abilities, how could she possibly choose the University of California? Those rumors were obviously false!”“Elena, I’m so happy for you.
