Chapter 3

Author: Moore
Sienna quickly stepped between us, smiling as she tried to ease the tension.

“Alright, stop arguing. Adrian already booked tickets to Buffalo. It’s supposed to be a surprise for you.”

I froze for a moment. I never expected Adrian to still remember that I once told him I wanted to see the falls.

But now, I could not feel even the slightest trace of excitement.

“I’m not going. You two can go instead.”

The atmosphere instantly became awkward.

Adrian frowned at me, his voice turning cold.

“Elena, how long are you going to keep this up?”

He turned around and walked away, clearly convinced that I would chase after him and coax him like I always did.

But I did not care. My eyes returned to the computer screen.

There were only five minutes left before the final match ended.

Just as my future self had told me, Argentina and France were tied 3–3, and everyone’s attention was now fixed on the penalty shootout.

My hands trembled as I took the betting slip out of my pocket and placed it on the table.

Five minutes later, Argentina scored the decisive penalty and secured the victory.

Five thousand dollars. At two-thousand-to-one odds, I won a total of ten million dollars.

After setting aside enough money for my tuition and living expenses, I immediately contacted my stockbroker and invested the remaining funds in Nexa Tech stock.

It took me two days to finish everything.

When I finally returned home, I unexpectedly ran into Adrian at the entrance.

I never imagined that he would be the one coming to make peace.

He walked toward me awkwardly and said, “Alright, Elena. You’ve been giving me the silent treatment for two days. Let’s just make up.”

“I canceled Sienna’s ticket. This trip will only be for the two of us.”

I looked up at him in surprise.

Adrian turned his face slightly and rubbed the back of his neck uncomfortably.

“I’ve thought it over. I admit I’ve been spending too much time with Sienna recently, and I understand why that made you uncomfortable. That was my fault.”

“We’ve never been apart before. These past two days without you just felt strange.”

He let out a resigned sigh.

“I guess you really do have me wrapped around your finger. Fine, anyway, we’re going to the same university, so we won’t have to be separated in the future.”

I took a step back and looked at him coldly.

“What about Sienna? Didn’t you make plans with her too?”

Perhaps my tone was colder than he expected.

Adrian paused for a moment before instinctively replying,

“What does that matter? She’s your sister. It’s only natural that she comes with us.”

I said nothing more.

At that moment, I suddenly felt as if the childhood sweetheart I had loved for so many years had somehow become someone I no longer recognized.

He was no longer worth staying for, not even for a moment.

A week later, my classmates began receiving their college acceptance letters one after another.

I was also officially accepted by Harvard University.

Looking at the acceptance letter in my inbox, I thought of the old, worn-out version of myself from the future, and my eyes slowly turned red.

Thankfully, this time, I had changed everything.

Just then, after a long silence, Adrian called me.

“Are you feeling better now? You should have received your California Institute of Technology acceptance letter too, right? We’re still going to college together.”

I frowned slightly and replied,

“Who told you I was going to California Institute of Technology?”

A few months later, I suddenly received a call from an unfamiliar number. When I answered, I realized it was my father.I had no idea how he managed to find my new number. His voice sounded exhausted, but there was still a hint of blame in his tone.“Elena, you were being too stubborn. You left for Harvard without saying anything. Do you even still consider this family?”I had long since grown tired of his self-righteous lectures.I interrupted him coldly.“If you have something to say, just say it.”Only then did my father slowly continue.“Your stepmother said that since you were able to go to Harvard, you must have saved quite a bit of money. Did your grandmother secretly leave you some savings before she passed away?”Before I could answer, he hurriedly continued.“Sienna’s expenses at school are getting higher, and the family really can’t keep going like this. Can you help us out for now?”After hearing those words, I felt the last bit of warmth I had left disappear completely.I

By now, I had finally seen everything clearly. This so-called family affection had been nothing more than a self-deception I had clung to from beginning to end. From this point forward, I would only live for myself. My family still believed that I had no financial support and that after making a scene for a while, I would eventually give in and accept their arrangements. But no one could have imagined that I already held the resources capable of completely changing my destiny.I cut off all ties with my family and immediately began completing the early enrollment process for Harvard University. Before leaving, I blocked every way Adrian could contact me.At that time, Adrian still believed we were only having a normal argument and giving each other the silent treatment. In the past, no matter how serious our conflicts became, I was always the one who stayed behind, waiting for him to come and say a few comforting words before I forgave him.But this time, I disappeared completely. His

I returned home. The moment I stepped through the door, my parents came over to congratulate me on receiving my acceptance letter from Harvard University. My stepmother had rarely cooked before, but that day she prepared an entire table full of dishes, all of them exactly the kind of food I liked. If it had been in the past, every meal at home would have been centered around Sienna’s preferences, and no one would have cared about what I wanted to eat.My father walked over quickly and took my hand, his voice gentle.“Are you hungry? Sit down and wait for a little while. The steak will be ready soon, and we can start dinner.”After saying that, he hurried back into the kitchen.Watching his busy figure, I felt a faint ache in my nose.I thought that even though my father had always favored my stepmother and Sienna, perhaps there was still a place for me in his heart.Even if I had lost Adrian, I still had my father.I still had a family that belonged to me.The atmosphere at the dinner

Seeing me leave, Sienna quickly reached out and tugged at Adrian’s sleeve, finally pulling him back to reality. He immediately grabbed her hand, and the two of them hurried out of the party after me.They had not gone far when Adrian caught up with me. He grabbed my arm, unable to hide the anger on his face.“What has been going on with you lately? I already told you that if I did something wrong, you should just tell me. Why won’t you say anything?”I no longer wanted to waste another word on him.I forcefully pulled my arm away from his hand.Adrian took a deep breath, his voice filled with frustration and confusion.“Elena, you’re really being unreasonable this time. We agreed long ago that we would go to California for college together, but you secretly applied to Harvard without telling anyone.”“Why would you do something like this?”He stared at me intensely, his face filled with genuine confusion.I frowned and answered coldly and directly.“My qualifications are enough for Har

After Marcus finished speaking, everyone looked at each other in surprise. Many people immediately pulled out their phones to check the class group chat.Everyone knew how much I had cared about Adrian before this. They had all assumed that I would definitely go to California with him for college.Adrian staggered back a few steps, tilting his head slightly as he stared at me in disbelief.Sienna, who had been sitting nearby, suddenly looked up as well. After the initial shock faded, a faint trace of satisfaction quietly appeared in her eyes. The private room instantly became lively.“Oh my god, Elena Riley actually got into Harvard? That’s incredible!”“With Elena’s abilities, how could she possibly choose the University of California? Those rumors were obviously false!”“Elena, I’m so happy for you. Congratulations!”Countless surprised and envious gazes fell on me.Adrian, who had always been calm and composed, completely lost control of his emotions. He rushed toward me, grabbed my
