Four

After hanging up with Sunny I went back to my grams. I decided to leave her how she was. It's evidence and it was best not to get my fingerprints on everything. I've watched a lot of crime shows to know you never touch anything on a crime scene, otherwise fingers will be pointed at you.

Police pulled up outside and entered the house. I was in tears leaning over my grams lifeless body sobbing and telling her I'd find out who did this and I loved her. i guess my tears and pain won out over my anger. Before the police pulled me away to examine her I whispered "say hi to gramps for me." They put outside on the police car. They give me a blanket.

A paramedic truck was sitting outside examining my arm from where I tore my IV out. Soon, Sunny pulled up. She had my phone in hand. She handed it a police officer and made her way over to me.

"You ok?" She folded her arm over my shoulder.

"Not even close to being ok. But I'll manage." Tears were still running down my cheeks.

"Bran is on his way..." she paused and studied my face. "I think it's time you knew the truth about us."

"I don't want to know. I just want to find the person who done this."

"We can help."

The police officer that had my phone slid it into a baggy labeled evidence after watching the video. He walked over to me and placed a hand on my shoulder.

"I'm sorry for your loss. But we need to ask you a couple questions." He looked at Sunny, magically shouting go away with his eyes.

"I want her to stay."

The police officer nodded. "Where were you when all this happened?"

"I was with her." I pointed to Sunny.

Sunny nodded to confirm.

"Do you know who could've done this?" My thought shifted to my mom and her psycho boyfriend. They couldn't have. Could they? My mom would've never let him hurt my grams. But then again she let him hurt me so it was possible.

"I-i don't know." I shook my head not wanting to eat her out just yet. If they did this, I wanted them.

"This is my number if you think of anything or anyone." He handed me a card.

I nodded taking the card and pocketing it. A car rolled to a halt just behind Sunnys car. Out jumped Bran and another male. He strolled over the officer.

"Thanks Hank, we have her."

The officer nodded and looked at me.

"Take care of her would ya Bran? I knew her grandparents well." He frowned.

Bran walked over to me and Sunny. "You ok?" He asked frowning a bit.

I nodded. "I think so." To be honest I didn't feel anything. I felt numb now, all the pain and anger was slowly fading. The last person that cared about me and actually loved me, was gone. How do you cope with that? My grandparents were my parents. They raised me. They protected me. And now both were just gone...just like that. Inside I was shattering, breaking. I don't know how I could put everything back together. So I just turned everything off. I got off the car and walked back inside and went straight to my room. Everything was still the same. Nothing missing, nothing broken. I shuffled through my drawers until I found my back up phone. I stuck into my pocket and exited the room. They had my grams sprawled on a stretcher covered with a sheet taking her body away. Before they took her I noticed in her hand was a golden chain, one I didn't notice before. I stopped them from taking her and grabbed the chain from her frail hands. I kissed her knuckles and shoved the chain in my pocket. I walked back outside to find more people. People holding cameras. They spotted me and instantly filed towards me with their cameras poised up to the shoulders.

"Excuse me Laura! Laura! A word please." A woman dressed in a fancy purple suit pushed a microphone into my face.

"Is it true this was your grandma?" My face was flushing, I was growing annoyed and very angry all over again. I pushed the microphone away and pushed the woman out my face.

"It hasn't even been twenty four fucking hours, and you people have the audacity to come and get in my face?" I spat. "Fuck you, you nasty pieces of shit!" Before I thought of punching that grim smirk off her face Bran ran over ushering me back inside.

"You need to calm down. That will be on live TV. Are you crazy?"

I snapped my head to look at him. "You don't know shit about me! None of you do!" I pushed towards my room and fell face first into my pillows sobbing. Bran followed me and stood in my doorway.

"You know...I don't know you. I don't even know why I care honestly. But I have no choice but to take you back to my home, where you will stay. So pack a bag and get your ass outside...or I'll come back and drag you out." He turned and walked back outside. Then Sunny appeared. Sadness on her face mixed with concern.

"Hey." She said crossing arms. "I'll help you, if you want."

I wanted to her to F off too, but she was nice to me. So I nodded and accepted her offer to help me. I can't believe Brans attitude changed from being nice and sweet to being cold and hard. I guess it was my fault. He was trying to help and I screamed at him. But he should've understood. He should've got it.

I rummaged through my drawers for clothing and underwear. Sunny got the things from my closet ooohing and aaaahing at some the clothes and shoes I had. Without Sunny though, I don't know what I'd do. I'm glad she's going to be at Brans. That's the only person I can trust there. My phone buzzed with a text from Chelsea. I had texted her I lost my phone. Her reply was in capitol letters. 'DUDE! YOU'RE ON THE NEWS!' Another message. 'What the hell happened Laura!?' I decided I'd call her later and explain what little I even knew. I was still confused. My heart was shattering and it was almost impossible to breathe. How had my life gotten this way? I'd never know.

At Brans mansion he wouldn't speak to me or even acknowledge I was even there. I guess I deserved it after how I screamed at him. He had Sunny take me to the room I'd be staying in. It was different then one I was in. Everything was a neon. Neon pink and neon green and a hint of baby blue. Not bad. I threw my bag at the foot of the bed and begun unpacking. Sunny helped me get settled.

"You sure you're ok?"

"I'm fine.." I lied through my teeth. I wanted to break down. I wanted to scream. But I didn't want to, not in front of Sunny. She nodded her head and helped me put my things away.

She left me alone afterwards so I could cry in peace if I wanted to. The

I was laying on the soft bed for hours. I was growing restless. I couldn't go to sleep. I kept tossing and turning, images of grams floating through my mind. That video, that sick and twisted video replaying every time I shut my eyes. It's hard losing people that you love and care for so much. So I decided to get up and find the kitchen. I needed food and water. I haven't ate since, well yesterday. And I forgot to call Chelsea. She's probably freaking out. I climbed out of my bed and made my way down the hall toward the stairs. I had no idea where I was going in this place. No one was awake, or so I thought. The guy that was with Bran earlier was sitting on the couch cuddled up to some girl that was passed out. He turned his head and looked up at me.

"Couldn't sleep?"

"No." I shook my head. "Where's the kitchen?"

He gently moved him arm from the sleeping girl and covered her with a blanket. "Come on, I'll show you."

We walked around the stair case. Behind it was a huge double door. When he opened it, the smell of food began to pour out.

"Cooks. They like to get up earlier than most. It's what, four right?"

I nodded. "Last I checked it was."

"People start to rise at six around here and there's roughly fifteen people here."

"Fifteen!?" My mouth fell open. I have to stay here with fifteen other people!? You've got to be kidding me.

"We are a family here. If you want more clarification, maybe speak to Bran." He shrugged.

"What's your name? I never got it."

He looked at me for a moment then his gaze dropped to the floor. "Mark." Then he walked away.

I entered the kitchen and seen about five people hovering over stoves. One turned and seen me standing in the door.

"Mornin'!" She waved. She was an older lady. Grey hair was seeping through her chefs hat.

"Morning." I waved back.

"Couldn't sleep?" She asked concerned.

"Not really. I'm hungry, haven't ate anything since yesterday." I frowned. I didn't want to bother her, she seemed pretty busy.

"Don't worry bout it. Sit." She gestured to an empty table. "I'll bring you something."

She brought me a bowl of cereal and a granola bar. She brought me a coffee and a juice also.

"Thank you." I may be broken, but I still had manners. And this woman was a nice human being. Well besides Sunny. I ate what she brought me and cleaned my own dishes. I put them away and wobbled back upstairs to my room. I shut the door and slunk back into bed. I counted sheep in my head, just like my grandparents told me to do when I was little. It always helped me fall asleep. When I reached twenty, my eyes felt heavier. I went under to peace and blackness not dreaming of anything.
