When the doctor lady appeared the next morning I couldn't help but ask her,
"Who is Bran? He said I'd figure it out, but I'm having a hard time. I don't know him."She chuckled lightly. "Everyone knows Bran.""Well I don't. So help me out?""No can do. If he wants you to figure it out, then you have to work on it yourself.""But-"She shook her head. "I'm sorry sweetheart, I can't help you." I left it at that. I'll have to turn to the internet then."Do you have Wi-Fi here?""Yea. Here's the password." She wrote it out on a piece of paper and handed it to me.I typed in Bran. Nothing popped up."Does he have a last name!?" I said sounding annoyed."Can't tell you that either. Good luck." She winked and chuckled leaving the room. Why can't anyone help me!? Might as well call Chelsea and my grams so their not worried.Later in the day, still nothing on Bran. And I mean absolutely NOTHING! I'm getting annoyed so I threw my phone on the ground. Bran walked into the room after hearing the clinking on the floor."Uh, you ok?"I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms."Silent treatment?" He chuckled."No one can tell me who you are. And it's annoying. You asked and said I'd figure it out, but I just can't!""Maybe your looking in the wrong place?""Internet knows all.""Not everything. But I know a lot about you.""How!?""Can't say until you figure it out. I'm surprised you don't know me, everyone does. I'm kind of hurt." He frowned sarcastically. "Ok, you're Laura Jennson, daughter of Kara Jennson. Your father passed before you were born. Your grandparents took you from your mom when you were five, right?" My mouth fell open. How the hell does he know all that!?"Then the least you can do is tell me who you are?" I nudged."Nope. But good news, you get to go home tomorrow." Great! I talked to my grams, and as far as she knows I've been with Chelsea. So I had to tell Chelsea to cover for me. All I told her was that I needed to be alone, she asked no further questions but agreed to cover for me. When I turned my head to look at Bran, he was fast asleep on the couch where Sunny had been. Maybe when I go home, someone can tell me who he is. But I'm not holding my breath. Maybe my grams will know. I will call her in the morning and let her know I'm coming home, and when I get there, I'll ask her about Bran. Hopefully she can give me some answers. Before I was about to shut my eyes, Sunny burst through the door choking on air."Boss! Get up!"Bran shot to his feet in a hurry. "What happened?""I-I-its Luke. He was shot."Brans eyes fell to the floor then looked at Sunny, his face turning red. "Stay here with her."Sunny nodded and moved to sit on the bed at my feet, she brought her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them and buried her face. She was trying to hold back a sob. I sat up and placed my hand on her shoulder, avoiding the pain in my stomach."Are you ok?"She snapped her head towards me looking big shocked and confused. "I'm fine. How about you?""Could be better.""Your not gonna ask about what happened?"I shrugged. "I can tell you don't wanna talk about it.""You're a good person for that." She sighed. "Thank you.""Don't thank me. I was almost dead, you all saved me..""No, Bran did that. I just looked after you..who did that to you?" She asked pointing to my stomach."Long story..""I have time, if you wanna talk."Why not try to make a new friend? So we sat there for hours. I told her about my mom, her psycho boyfriend and my grandparents. She sat there and listened contently. I hardly knew her, but I felt like I have known her my whole life. She told me what happened couldn't be explained. The less I knew, the better off I would be. But she give me her number and told me to call her if I needed anything. Like if I needed someone to vent to, shop with, or even someone who understood being abused. She came from a family that didn't really care about her. Her mom and dad both abused her, nearly killed her. The day they thought she was dead they dumped her in the alley by the bowling alley. She was only sixteen at the time. One of Brans friends found her and brought her here. She's been here for two years."I heard the day you got attacked was your birthday?" Sunny asked half smiling."Was. But I hate my birthday." I frowned."Why?" She raised her eyebrow confused."My gramps died that day....two years ago.""Oh....I'm sorry to hear that." She frowned. I never thought I could make a friend in a place I've never been. But I liked it. Sunny made me feel a lot better. I'd be sulking at home and avoiding my grams at all cost."Lay down. Get some rest...you go home tomorrow." She tucked me in and strolled over to the couch and fell over.I fell asleep pretty quickly. I was exhausted. The next morning Sunny was gone, replaced by Bran. He was fast asleep. I picked up my phone dialing my grams. No answer. That's strange, so I tried again. Still nothing. Shortly after I gave up, a video message came through my phone. An unknown number. Thinking it might've been one of those annoying chain mail things I hit open. My grams was tied up and being beaten by someone in a ski mask. The person in the mask brought a gun up to her head. He looked into the camera. "This is for being a bad girl." He kissed the camera and shot her. The light that once filled her eyes, now lay dark and dim. I screamed and threw my phone. I ripped the IV that was still attached to my arm straight out, ignoring the pain the ripped through my stomach and now my arm, I ran. I was headed in the direction of home. I needed to know if she was really gone, or if the video was just a sick joke. I heard voices calling for me from the mansion I was in, but I didn't care. My feet kept going. Please be there grams. Please don't leave me. I need you.It was a shorter run than I'd thought. I ran for maybe fifteen or twenty blocks. When I made it to the gate my grams car was parked out front. Thank god! I thought. When I dished for the extra key that was hidden in the flower pot on the porch, it was gone. The door was ajar, so I opened it. The inside looked like a tornado struck. Lying lifeless in the kitchen still tied up was my grams. I ran to her and tried to feel for a pulse or any sign of life. There was nothing. Her skin was as cold as an ice cube. I picked up the phone quickly dialing 9-1-1."Hello emergency dispatch, what's your emergency?" The woman on the phone said."Please send someone. My grams...she's....dead.""Do you know what happened?""I got sent a video..." shit the video! It's still at Brans."A video? Did you save it ma'am?""N-no, I lost my phone.""Where were you when you received this video?""I was at a house..the owners name I think was Bran."The woman fell silent for a moment then came back on. "Police are on the way."I quickly hung up the phone. The paper Sunny had written her number on, it was scrunched up in my pocket. I pulled it out and called her."Hello?" Her tired voice came over the phone."Sunny! It's Laura...I need your help.""Wha-Laura?""Y-Yea. I'm at my house, I need help." I was on the verge of crying."What happened?" There was shuffling in the background so clearly she was up and alert."Someone murdered my grandmother. My phones in the room there, there's a video." I tried to stay calm but I knew I'd lose it and soon."I'm on my way." She rushed and hung up.I dropped down on my knees and screamed as loud as I could hoping my anger would take over. After hanging up with Sunny I went back to my grams. I decided to leave her how she was. It's evidence and it was best not to get my fingerprints on everything. I've watched a lot of crime shows to know you never touch anything on a crime scene, otherwise fingers will be pointed at you. Police pulled up outside and entered the house. I was in tears leaning over my grams lifeless body sobbing and telling her I'd find out who did this and I loved her. i guess my tears and pain won out over my anger. Before the police pulled me away to examine her I whispered "say hi to gramps for me." They put outside on the police car. They give me a blanket. A paramedic truck was sitting outside examining my arm from where I tore my IV out. Soon, Sunny pulled up. She had my phone in hand. She handed it a police officer and made her way over to me. "You ok?" She folded her arm over my shoulder."Not even close to being ok. But I'll manage." Tears were still running down my cheeks. "Bran is on his w
For a while, I forgot where I was. That was until Sunny barged into my room jumping up and down on my bed. "Get up, get up, get up!" She shrieked."Seriously!?" I snarled. "It's morning...so get up. Let's get breakfast." I rolled over and looked at the clock. Six A.M. I groaned. "You've got to be kidding." I yawned. "Long night?" She asked. "I only got two hours of shut-eye. Do you mind?" I tried to shoo her away, but she wouldn't budge. "Look, we have rules in this house. You rise at six and fall at nine." She giggled. "Or in your case, fall at four in the morning. So get up." I pulled the covers over my face trying to sleep a bit longer. Sunny pulled them off my head and completely off my body. A cold chill ran up my spine. "Fine!" I jumped up and threw on a pair of jeans and a long sleeved shirt and a pair of boots. She pulled me down into the kitchen where surely enough, fifteen people sat and chatted amongst themselves. They stopped their conversation when they noticed me
Two days have gone and passed. Today's the day I have to tell Bran if I'm joining or leaving. I don't wanna leave, everyone has been so kind to me. My grandmas funeral is tomorrow. I'm not ready for all of this. My life is over before it really even begins. "Morning sleepyhead!" Sunny was singing. "Seriously?" "Yea get up. You have to meet with Bran after breakfast.""Fine. Coming." I threw on a clean pair of pants and t-shirt and ran downstairs behind Sunny. Today everyone was all chatty and what not and staring at me. I noticed a pretty blonde-haired girl sitting with Bran, I've never seen her before. "Oh, that's Marla. She claims Bran is hers." Sunny shrugged. "But he isn't." She waved dismissively. "They sleep together I'm assuming.." "Sometimes. But hey, he's single." Marla stared directly into my soul. What the hell? "Oh goody, the witch walks this way." Sunny rolled her eyes."You're the new girl?" She placed both hands on the table and leaned in. "Word of advice? Stay
Before the actual dancing and fighting began I left the mansion and dipped into the local church to say a few words and a goodbye to grandmother. The whole town was there saying their goodbyes as well. Flowers littered her brown coffin. Inside beside her head were pictures of me and her and of my gramps. A few were of my mother when she was a little girl. People kept walking over to me telling me sorry for my loss or hugging me with tears filling their eyes. I wasn't even crying, I was more numb than anything. After a while I decided it was time to head back to the mansion. When I got back to Brans everyone hugged me and telling the same thing, "sorry for your loss" or "We are here for you." I didn't feel like being around a crowd so I snuck off to be alone. It's finally time for this crap to begin. I've been standing here staring in the mirror, I didn't recognize the girl looking back at me. Long smooth legs, long brown hair and beautiful baby blue eyes. I looked different but yet
"How'd you find that out?" "James. I told you. He hacked the police files, your mother has a pretty lengthy record." He shrugged. "Also he found a picture of her wearing that same necklace." "Got it. What do we do?" "I don't know. We need to think...plan.""So this means...my mother murdered my grandmother? But the voice in the video sounded male." I was confused. This made no sense. Why harm your own mother? Just why!?"Voice changer." He shrugged. "He is still trying to piece this together." He got up from his chair and pulled me up with him. "Get some rest, we will check more out tomorrow."I did what he asked and made my way to my room. I couldn't sleep, so I lay there staring up at the ceiling. Thoughts about my own mother swirled my mind. Why her? Why my grams? Then I got a funny filling, what if it was Ben and not my mother...or worse; what if it was both of them!? I pulled out my phone and did a search-Franklin, Ben Moore. My face lit up when I found a police record and a m
I spent the rest of the day yesterday in my room. I didn't want to face anyone, especially Bran. I can't believe I actually kissed him. I mean did he like it or not? Who knows. I only walked down for a bit then walked back upstairs. I have a duffle bag and a gun and a knife stuffed under my bed. Now to wait for the right moment, after their gone. I tied up some sheets and blankets to help me sneak out and down my window. Hopefully I can do it without being caught. The day is going by so slow. It's only four in the afternoon. The others leave at seven. I can't leave too early, or they'll notice. But if I leave too late, then I'll be screwed. I guess I can be patient and wait. As the time goes on, I grow more and more anxious. I can't believe I'm doing this. I'm stupid, but I have to help. A knock on my door startled me. I pushed everything under my bed just where it was and opened it. "What are you doing up here!?" Marla shrieked. "I can hear you all the way down the hall." I tri
I woke up still tied up. Luckily my jacket was still on. I'm trying so hard to reach in my sleeve pocket and grab my knife, with my hands tied it's kind of hard. I can do it. I have to. I have to fight. At least until I'm free or hopefully Bran shows up."Come on Laura, you can do this." I muttered over and over again. I finally managed to snag my knife free and cut one hand free. Now to the other. Before I could even start, foot steps echoed in the hall getting closer. "Shi-" I put my knife back and hung looking exhausted. "Well, ain't you a pretty thing." A guy dressed in all green with blonde hair and deep green eyes stood in front of me. "Let's have some fun." He smirked tugging on my shirt. "Let. Go. Of. Me." I whispered. "You're my new toy. Come on, let Robby see what he's got." He pouted loosening my other hand. "Back off." I growled. "Or what?" He chuckled. "You're too weak to do anything." He pulled my shirt up and started undoing my pants. I decided to go along with h
"Tell me, why were you paying the leader of your gang?" A loud blow landing over and over again from the chamber Ben and Mom were in. A man laughing and spitting rang out. More blows landed. "Answer me!" More laughter. "You'll soon find out!" Ben yelled. "Come in here, girl! I know you're listening." I opened the door and stepped inside. Ben was covered in blood from all the punches he took. My mother was cowering in the corner still tied up. "Please stop them." My mother pleaded. "I can't." I shook my head turning away from her. "You're a stupid girl," Ben muttered and spat. "Well, you killed my grandmother, tied me up to let some sicko try and rape me. And you were going to kill me. So no, I'd say I'm smarter than you." I smirked. "You really think we were gonna kill you?" Ben chuckled hysterically. "No. We were going to marry you off to the Snakes leader to marry his son!" "Then why pay him?" I folded my arms over my chest. "Because you stupid girl, we paid him to help us
