"If you move your head, you will die, so you better stand still, woman," Emily said, as Luis stood next to her without saying anything. I am not sure how a wife and lover can live together.
Examinations were quickly approaching, and I had not yet paid my outstanding examination fees. As a law student, things have been difficult, but holding onto the hope of one day making my father proud has kept me going. I know things would not have progressed this far if my mother, the only person who truly provided me with everything I needed, was still alive. A brave and supportive woman who had always fueled my desire to become a top lawyer left when I did not expect her to, and now I am stuck in a mess I do not know how to get out of.
I took on a serving job for the night because I knew the money I would make would be more than enough to pay for my exam and buy a gift for my father's birthday. I had never served before but was eager to do so because I did not have any other option, but when the worst happened, all hell broke loose. I was kidnapped and awoke to confront my worst nightmare in person. I was terrified and had already entered the lion's den; we all know what the Delucas are capable of, not to mention their heir Luis, the last man anyone in Atlanta would want to mess with. When I saw him for the first time at the party, I knew it was over. I was still wondering why he had not killed me yet.
I was in a dark room for about a week, and only delicious meals were brought to me; I had no idea how I was going to survive because death was the only fate that those who messed with them faced. I heard footsteps approaching, and I realized I had failed my parents. When the door opened, Luis Deluca walked in; I still did not dare to look up, so I remained looking down. "Sign these damn papers," he said, and I looked up in alarm.
I could tell which papers I was signing just by looking at the color. ‘Marriage?’ When a drop of blood landed on the paper, I said at the back of my head, unsure whether to sign.
"Look here, young lady, it is either you sign that paper and go get tortured out there, or you stay and let me send you back to your family, OK, in a body bag," Luis said, his voice commanding and fierce.
"No—I will sign, sir," I responded, signing the paperwork.
"Please keep that lame excuse to yourself; it must have been your plan all along to take my—”
"Emily, you, of all people, should know that we do not kill our assets," Luis responded to the woman.
“Seriously, you're taking her as a wife?”
"Come on, you know that is not what I want her to be. But since she is valuable I am sure Enrico will love this news when it reaches him," he said, and I could not believe it.
I looked up and was about to say something when I realized I could not because of the blood on his face, which appeared to be the result of a violent fight. "Hello, little Miss, I hope you are ready for what is coming your way; nobody except me rules the devil's heart, so you might as well cooperate or have your days cut short as a result of messing with me," Emily said, roughly freeing my chin.
“Oh," I said softly, as Emily had not yet left my room. I would never have heard of her, but the way Luis spoke to her suggested they had a deeper connection. I am not even sure how I became an asset to Luis. "I will send the maids to bring you some clothes, but do not be overconfident because Luis is mine," Emily said before walking out.
I freed my hands and wondered, if she could hear herself, what would I want to do with a murderer like him anyway? When I get out of this mess, she will undoubtedly be the first person I get locked up. I was deep in thought when a woman dressed in white approached me and bowed. ‘Goodness, what is happening here?’ I questioned myself before they both greeted me and invited me to follow them to my room.
I was going to ask them a lot of questions, but I could not because I needed to process everything that was happening. How on earth did I get a room in the Deluca mansion? "Madam, this is your room. Please let us know if you want us to make any changes," one of the women said, placing some clothes on the bed.
“No, it's OK you may leave," I said.
They left, and I took a deep breath before deciding how I was going to get myself out of this mess. I had not taken a shower in days, so I went for one right away, and it was extremely comforting. I got out and went to dress up when I noticed Luis sitting on the bed. "Impressive; I did not know lawyers could look this good," he said, looking me over from head to toe.
“Why did you marry me?" I asked in a serious tone.
"Ms. Johnson, please look around before saying anything you might regret later, okay," he warned.
“Look Mr.Deluca I'd advise you to let me go before —"
"Before what? Hmm, I admire your courage but keep in mind that this is not a courtroom. OK, get ready. Your father is waiting for you downstairs, and I believe you do not want him to find out about our marriage being forced, given his health," he said as he walked out.
"What!” I exclaimed shocked that my Dad was here.
CHAPTER 76Enrico "Ariella's Aunt is such a crazy woman," Lucia said after seeing a viral video of her raving at Luis."I would call her foolish looking at how hard she works simply to get money from Enrico," Monica said."Maybe she is the finest weapon we can use against those two," Emily added."That terrible chef failed miserably; lucky, I shot him on time or we would all be in jeopardy right now," Marcus responded."You must be a fool to think Luis believed your motives for shooting that person. I advised you not to get involved, but you went ahead and shot Marcus, so think about it," Kendy said."Will there ever be a day when you stop making a big deal about nothing? I am so pleased I was not present when all of this happened," Emily added, taking a drink before taking a seat."That does not matter, you were aware, and that is what counts; the only one who could play victim is Rosalia, since she does not realize we are the true demons, OK," Lucia replied, staring at Emily."Enou
CHAPTER 75Luis “Sir please I can—”A gun fired and I was surprised that it was not mine."You were too slow, cousin," Marcus said as he walked me."Why did you shoot him?” I asked since I wasn't going to shoot."Because he messed with my sister-in-law, I do not fool around with my family," Marcus grinned, but I knew it was a lie.He was aware of the poisoning and sought to quiet the cook. I dismissed everyone while David requested that the cleaning crew come and clear up the mess. I asked Marcus to accompany me to my office because I needed the damn truth."So, how is she doing?" he inquired as we came into my office."That is none of your concern; I want to know the truth about why you took that man's life," I responded, giving him a serious expression."Come on Luis, were you just going to let him go and let the authorities handle it? No man, I needed that bastard killed for interfering with Ariella," Marcus said.I was already outraged and wanted to get to the hospital, so I let
CHAPTER 74LuisI asked everyone to go out to dine so I could spend all of my time with Ariella. Hope was the most difficult to persuade since she had a stronger attachment to Ariella than everyone else.“Where's everyone?" “They have gone out." “With Hope?" Ariella asked.“Yes," I nodded.“But it's—" "I wanted to spend some time with you alone, madam; you do not have anything to worry about right now; it is just you and me," I said, resting my palm on her chin."Sure," she said, and we made our way to the dining room.“I hope you like it," I said with a smile."Of course, did you do this?" she said, excited.“Yes, I did," I responded before she rushed to hug me.“This is so cute, I thought you were just a brat, now I know better," she whispered.“Silly girl," I remarked before pulling the chair out for her.We began to converse and eat our food. My heart was beating simply staring at Ariella's gorgeous face. I just loved everything about her. The smile, eyes, and humanity. “Are y
CHAPTER 73Ariella We were still at the cafe with Emily when someone unexpectedly approached our table.“Lucia," I whispered, shocked to see her."Hello, Mrs. DeLuca. Or should I call you Ms. Johnson?" She sneered."Anything that makes you feel better," I said, and Emma gave me a puzzled look.“Hmmm I see," she replied, taking a seat at our table.“Aren't you supposed to be in jail?” I asked."I am, but power talks louder than anything in Atlanta; therefore, I am out. I hope Luis treats you like a queen," she said."Of course I don't deserve anything less than that after all.”"Ariella Johnson, you are toying with the wrong lady. If you leave Luis, you will save yourself and your career, but if you don't—""Then what?!" Emma cut her off."Whose is this, and why have you not taught her not to interrupt elders while they are speaking?" Lucia asked, giving Emma a disgusted look."You say it again, and I will drag your stupid hair over this marble floor, lady. How dare you threaten my be
CHAPTER 72Ariella I was trying to sleep, but all I could think about was Luis. I craved his words, aroma, and touch. When I heard him chatting to someone, I slipped on my slippers and headed to his room.Emily begged, "Luis, come on, I know you miss me," and I was already envious. What was she doing there so late?I was ready to regret going to his room and almost turned back when I heard his door open.“Get out!" he said to Emily who almost fell to the floor."Ariella," he mumbled, surprised to see me, while I wondered what my reason for coming would be."Would you like something?" he inquired, heading towards me as I dashed to my room.I was about to lock the door when Luis pushed it and walked in.“I can explain it's not what you think she was—" “I need you to leave," I cut him off."Ariella, please trust me, I am simply wanting your heart. Emily tried to reach me, but I couldn't," he stated."Didn't you hear what I just said?” I responded."OK, I will go," he responded, going o
CHAPTER 71Luis We had completed our meal and were about to leave when Hope invited us to join her shopping trip. I expected Ariella to disagree, but she appeared more delighted than me. Since the mall was not far away, David drove us there, where we met Hope, who appeared delighted to see us."Congratulations, Mommy. I got you this," she added, wrapping a bright bracelet around Ariella's hand."Wow, this is lovely, sweet. Where did you acquire it?" Ariella responded by lowering her body to meet Hope's height.“From a secret place," Hope responded."Ladies, please, I am feeling jealous," I said, hoping to get their attention."Daddy, please save us the trouble; I need to take Mommy away," Hope answered."OK, I guess I'll get David to freeze all your accounts, madam,” I smiled.“Now, you dare not, if you want your David to survive," Hope whispered, pulling Ariella away as I trailed them behind like a guard.“Daddy please hurry," Hope said while I was just lost looking at Ariella's h
