Chapter 2

Autor: Forced Love Again
Realizing this, I didn't immediately expose Stephen. Instead, I asked calmly, "Where's Sienna? Anthony is in the hospital, and I've called her more than a dozen times, but she hasn't answered."

"She's on a business trip to Swayton," Stephen replied quickly. "She's been busy with work. You know that. I'll take care of Anthony. Don't keep bothering her and interfering with her work."

I remained silent.

Before I called Stephen, my wife Sienna Shenton had already replied to me with a short text. "I'm in a meeting. My dad is taking care of Anthony. He'll be fine."

Even after learning that her son was in the hospital, she didn't ask how serious his condition was, nor did she mention wanting to visit. It was as though her son being in the hospital was nothing more than a trivial matter.

How had I never noticed before that she could be so indifferent toward Anthony?

"Malachi, are you still abroad?" Stephen asked tentatively.

I answered, "I'm at the hospital."

"What?" Stephen's voice suddenly changed as he asked, "You're back?"

There was no hint of surprise in his voice. Instead, he sounded almost panicked.

Before I could respond, he abruptly hung up.

Less than an hour later, the hospital room door was pushed open, and Stephen strode in. He walked up to the bed and looked down at Anthony.

He frowned as he chided, "You brat, why are you so weak? You fainted over nothing. I told you to eat an extra egg this morning, but you wouldn't listen. Is the food at school not to your liking?"

Seeing this, I couldn't help but frown. Anthony was still resting, and Stephen's voice was so loud that it was bound to wake him.

Sure enough, he slowly opened his eyes. But the moment he saw who was in front of him, his expression shifted, and he instinctively cowered under the covers.

Stephen paused, and he glanced at me diffidently. Then, he straightened up, cleared his throat, and lectured Anthony sternly, "Anthony, did you not eat the breakfast I made for you this morning? Is that why you fainted from hunger? Boys can't be so delicate!"

After he finished speaking, Anthony looked down and frowned tightly.

"He has been becoming more and more difficult," Stephen said, frowning at me. "I make him plenty of good food, but he refuses to eat it. Ask him what's wrong, and he won't say a word. I'm not getting any younger, but I'm always taking care of him, afraid he'll get hurt. And yet, this still happened."

At that, he raised his voice, sounding completely indignant. "Malachi, you don't think I haven't been taking good care of him, do you?"

I stared at him for a few seconds before shaking my head. "Of course not."

Stephen visibly relaxed and immediately started blaming the school, the teacher, and even the hospital. Yet, he never blamed himself.

On the way out of the hospital, he kept checking up on Anthony, but he remained silent the entire time.

As soon as we got home, Stephen went straight into the kitchen to make some broth. The refrigerator was packed with seafood, fresh fruits, and vegetables. There was even a half-eaten cake on the dining table.

Everything seemed normal. In fact, one could say their living conditions were quite comfortable.

Stephen brought over a bowl of chicken broth and patiently coaxed Anthony to drink it. "Hey, I've cooled it down for you. It's not hot."

If the hospital report hadn't still been in my bag, I might have wondered if I was just imagining things.

That night, as I lay beside Anthony, I gently asked him, "Anthony, tell me what you usually eat at home. Has your grandpa ever hit you?"

His body visibly stiffened at my question.

I gently patted him through his blanket and soothed him. "Don't be afraid. I'm here. I'll protect you."

But the next second, Stephen opened the door, carrying a glass of warm milk. "Malachi, you must be tired after such a long flight. Get some rest."

He put the milk on the bedside table and looked over at Anthony.

"Anthony, be a good boy and don't bother your dad," he said with a smile.

However, Anthony was trembling under the covers.

I called Sienna myself and said, "I'll sign it, but I must see Anthony with my own eyes. Or else, I'd rather destroy the company than let you get a single penny."Perhaps the decisiveness in my tone convinced her. Ten minutes later, she sent me an address. I hid a tracker and a recording device in my clothes, then went there alone with the agreement. In the warehouse, Anthony was tied up in a corner, with Stephen standing guard beside him and Tina guarding the back door.Sienna sat behind an old table, a pen resting in front of her. "Sign it," she said, pushing the agreement toward me. "Once you do, I'll take you and your son home. Malachi, I didn't want things to escalate like this. As long as the company is still standing, we'll always be a family."I almost laughed at the sheer audacity of her words. After everything that had happened, she still believed we could somehow be a family.I picked up the pen, but my eyes never left Anthony. Just as the tip of the pen was about to

In the days that followed, I became increasingly busy. Back at the company, I began cleaning house and preparing for the division of assets with Sienna. I spent the rest of my time with Anthony. The doctor confirmed that he had post-traumatic stress disorder caused by prolonged fear and abuse, along with selective mutism. The diagnosis broke my heart.Fortunately, my efforts to accompany him daily paid off. One day, he finally reached out and took my hand. "Daddy…" Anthony said weakly and hoarsely.I crouched down, tears welling up in my eyes. "I'm here."He glanced nervously toward the door and asked, "I-Is Grandpa coming?" "No. He won't lock you away anymore," I answered immediately.Anthony remained silent for a long time. Then, suddenly, he pulled a crumpled piece of paper from beneath his pillow. A few sentences had been scribbled in crooked handwriting. "Grandpa said you didn't want me anymore. Mommy said Kylie is the one who belongs in this family. If I told anyone a

Anthony had been taken to a safe place by my assistant, where a psychologist and a nanny were staying with him 24 hours a day. When I rushed back home, he was huddled in a corner of a couch. A bowl of oatmeal sat in front of him, but he hadn't touched it. He simply watched everyone around him warily.I picked up the bowl, took a bite myself, and then handed him the spoon. "Anthony, this is safe. Your grandpa isn't here. Neither is anyone else. No one will hit you for eating anymore."It was a long time before he finally took the spoon. He managed to take one small bite before tears fell into the bowl. I hugged him, and this time, he didn't pull away. The next morning, the board called an emergency meeting. I arrived on time with my lawyer.Sienna sat at the other end of the long conference table, her eyes bloodshot. Yet, when she saw me, she still smiled confidently, as though she had won.She said, "Malachi, you took things too far at Dad's birthday party. What woman in business

Even at that moment, Sienna was still downplaying what had happened."Sienna, you're right," I said, picking up the microphone, my expression remaining calm. "I've spent most of the year abroad, but do you know why I do that? Because you told me the company's domestic operations were stable and that I should focus on expanding the company's business abroad. "You told me Stephen would look after our son. You told me you loved Anthony and me. You promised you'd never betray this family. That's why I stayed overseas and worked hard to make money for us, while you stayed here and used that money to support your lover and illegitimate child."I opened another document, and a series of bank transfers appeared on the screen, one after another. The total was 14.76 million dollars.I explained, "I've compiled every transfer you've made to Caleb's company over the years under the guise of legitimate business expenses. "This morning, the court accepted my application for asset preservation

The moment I walked in, the lively banquet hall fell silent."Malachi, weren't you supposed to be abroad?" Sienna asked, staring at me in shock. However, I simply ignored her and walked straight to Stephen. "Stephen, happy 60th birthday."Stephen's face turned pale as he asked, "What's going on here? It's my birthday, and you brought me a basket of bread? Are you trying to humiliate me in front of everyone?"He became livid. He slammed his hand onto that table, then kicked the basket over, sending the bread flying across the floor. A few pieces rolled to his feet, and he stomped on them.Looking at the crushed bread, I smiled mysteriously. "Stephen, don't waste them. Didn't you always say bread is the most nutritious food?"Stephen's eyes narrowed at my words.Sienna reached out and grabbed my wrist. She said, "Malachi Lynch, have you had enough? Whatever it is, we can talk about it at home. Today is Dad's birthday party."I retorted, "It's precisely because all our relatives a

I sat in front of the screen, unable to process what I had just heard.Just then, the villa door opened again, and Sienna walked in, carrying a limited-edition remote-controlled car. She asked, "Hey, did you miss your mommy?"I saw the undisguised love and affection on her face, an expression she had never shown Anthony.Caleb walked over and slipped an arm around her waist. Stephen smiled and offered them some fruit. The four of them sat together in the living room, looking like a real family. Meanwhile, my son was locked in a windowless storage room.Kylie hugged her remote-controlled car and proudly showed it off as she drove it around the room. "Mommy, isn't this the newest model? Only two kids in my class have one!""Of course," Sienna said sweetly, ruffling her hair. "Whatever the other kids have, my daughter should have too."I had heard her say something similar. When Anthony turned four, he saw a classmate with a cool electric guitar. So, when he got home, he cautiousl
