Ethan's POV

My mom paced back and forth across my living room, her heels clicking against the hardwood floor with sharp, angry sounds. She had been pacing for at least fifteen minutes while I sat on the couch trying to make sense of what just happened.

"Explain it to me again," she demanded, stopping in front of me with her hands on her hips. "Who were those people? Why did they have those expensive cars?"

"I don't know," I said tiredly.

"You don't know?" Her voice rose. "Your wife just left with some man in three black SUVs that probably could even be government vehicles and you don't know who he is?"

"She claimed he was her brother," I said.

"Her brother!" Mom laughed harshly. "The brother she never mentioned in six years of marriage? The brother who showed up today with a security team like he's some kind of celebrity?"

I did not answer because I did not have answers. Everything that happened in the last hour felt surreal and confusing.

"Show me those photos again," she said. "The

  • My Hockey Star Ex-husband's Regret   025: The plan

Alexander Montgomery's POVI sat alone in my office with the Boston Titans financial reports spread across my mahogany desk like evidence in a criminal case. The numbers told a story of mismanagement and wasted potential, and I had been staring at them for the past two hours trying to decide if I was making the right choice."This is insane," I muttered to myself, picking up one of the reports. "The coaching staff is underpaid, the facilities are falling apart, and the marketing department barely exists."I put down the report and rubbed my temples. My daughter has agreed to buy this mess. Adriana, who three days ago could barely get out of bed, now wanted to take on a failing NHL franchise worth hundreds of millions of dollars.I thought back to six years ago, when she came to my office with stars in her eyes and announced she wanted to marry Ethan Blake."Dad, I love him," she had said, and her voice was so certain. "I know you don't approve, but I'm going to marry him anyway.""You

  • My Hockey Star Ex-husband's Regret   024: The opportunity

Adriana's POVNicholas pulled out his phone and opened a news article, then handed it to me. "This was published this morning. It's been making rounds in sports media."I took the phone and read the headline: "Ethan Blake Trade Rumors Heat Up: Multiple Teams Interested in Former Star."My stomach twisted as I scanned the article. It discussed Ethan's potential trade to several teams, analyzing his recent performance and speculating about which franchise would be the best fit for his comeback. But one team was mentioned more than the others as his top choice. The Boston Titans."He's been trying to get traded to the Titans for months," Nicholas said, watching my face carefully. "His agent has been very aggressive about it. Apparently it's his dream team, the franchise he's always wanted to join."I remembered. Of course I remembered. Ethan talked about the Titans constantly during our marriage. He followed their games religiously, studied their plays, knew every player's stats by heart

  • My Hockey Star Ex-husband's Regret   023: The aftermath

Adriana's POVThree days later after I went back home to my family, I woke up to sunlight streaming through my bedroom windows. The familiar pale blue walls and childhood trophies reminded me I was home at the Montgomery estate, safe in my old room. The clock showed two in the afternoon. I had been sleeping on and off for three days, barely getting out of bed except to use the bathroom. My dad and Nicholas gave me space, but they checked on me regularly. Dad brought meals that I barely touched, and Nicholas sat with me in silence when I needed company.I felt hollowed out inside, like everything that mattered had been ripped away. The baby, the marriage, the life I thought I was building. All of it was gone, leaving nothing but this empty shell of who I used to be.My phone sat on the nightstand where I had left it three days ago, turned off and forgotten. I did not want to know if Ethan tried to call or what people were saying about our divorce. I just wanted to exist in this quiet s

Adriana's POVThe car moved smoothly through the city streets while I sat in the back seat staring out the window without really seeing anything. Nicholas held my hand in his, his grip warm and steady, but he did not ask me any questions or try to make me talk. He just stayed close and let me exist in the silence.I was grateful for that because I did not have words for what I was feeling. I was empty, hollow. I felt like someone had reached inside me and scooped out everything that mattered, leaving behind just a shell that looked like Adriana but was not really her anymore. The city slowly gave way as we drove. Trees lined both sides of the road and the houses became larger and more spread out. I recognized this route. I had driven it hundreds of times before I met Ethan, before I gave up everything to be with him. Before I became someone I did not recognize."We're almost there," Nicholas said softly, squeezing my hand.I nodded but could not bring myself to speak. The Montgomery e

  • My Hockey Star Ex-husband's Regret   020: Who was that man?

Ethan's POVI stood in the driveway long after the SUVs disappeared around the corner, staring at the empty street as if Adriana might suddenly change her mind and come back. The scattered hundred dollar bills blew across the pavement in the breeze, but I did not move to pick them up anymore."Ethan!" My mom's shrill voice cut through my thoughts. "Are you just going to stand there? Your wife just left with another man!"I turned slowly to look at her, and she was practically vibrating with rage on the porch. Her face was red and her hands were clenched into fists at her sides."She chose him over you!" She continued, her voice rising even higher. "She chose money over her marriage! That whore chose a rich lover over her own husband!""Stop calling her that," I said tiredly."Why should I?" She marched down the porch steps toward me. "That's what she is! A gold-digging whore who was using you this whole time!"I looked down at the money still scattered around my feet. Ten thousand dol
