Maddie
“I told you to clean everywhere before you come back. Don't leave a single place untouched.”
My mother's in law voice was still ringing in my head as I pushed the door open and stepped into the house.
“I've done it, ma…” I murmured under my breath, even though she wasn't there to hear me.
My body ached, my hands were still smelling of cleaning chemicals and my back felt it would break at any moment. I had spent the whole day at her house, scrubbing floors, washing curtains, arranging her wardrobe and even cooking for her guests like I was some kind of servant.
And not a daughter in law or even a human being.
I quietly slipped off my slippers and stepped into the living room. Unfortunately, the house was unusually quiet. No sound from the TV. No footsteps, nothing.
Maybe Freddie wasn't back yet.
For a second I felt relieved. At least I wouldn't have to face his cold expression tonight. Neither his words.
I slowly walked toward the stairs dragging my tired body along. All I wanted was to take a bath and lie down. Maybe if I slept early, I wouldn't have to think about anything.
But as I got closer to the bathroom, I heard something. A fainter sound. Low and strange.
At first I paused, thinking maybe I was just tired and imagining things. But then I heard it again.
A soft laugh piercing through the room.
And a woman's voice, which sounded very familiar.
“When are you getting rid of that bitch? Her present disgust me so much in this house.” Eartha, my step sister's voice echoed in.
“Just a matter of time, my love. You know we still need her to do the housework. She's a great cook and sometimes helps my mother around, so for that I'm keeping her around even though she's barren.”
Me? Barren? Just because I haven't gotten pregnant within five months of our marriage.
The air seemed to leave my gut the moment their words penetrate inside my ear. I felt a heavy weight in my chest as I drifted away from the door a little, thinking if I should turn a blind eye to it or walk into them.
But at this point, I don't think I can continue to pretend like I'm blind. As usual, I would have turned a blind eye to it if Freddie hadn't brought my sister to our matrimonial bed, I would have turned a blind eye if she wasn't related to me.
But I think this is the highest I can take.
With a deep breath, I opened the door and right there I saw Freddie riding my sister in a doggy style.
The two of them pause to look at me with smiles on their faces, hiss and continue what they were doing. As if my present doesn't matter
They didn't even flinch at all.
“fuck me hard daddy.” Freddie grabbed earth's hair, while she moaned, her breast shaking at the pace of his thrust.
“Freddie!!” Traumatized at his audacity, I screamed out his name, unable to take everything right. He couldn't even respect the fact that I'm here and stop fucking her.
What level of disrespect is that?
“Why does this bitch have to disturb us now.” Eartha whispered as Freddie pulled away.
“What do you want Maddie? For God's sake can't you just give us a few minutes to finish up?” My heart ached at his words.
“Freddie!” I called in disbelief. Trying to comprehend what was happening in front of me.
“I trusted you…” I finally whispered, my voice so low I almost didn't hear myself.
My eyes moved from earth to Freddie, hoping he would deny it even though I knew that can never be true.
“Freddie…. Tell me this isn't real.” But he didn't say anything or mutter a word, he just sat on the sofa with a towel wrapped around his waist, while Eartha sat on top of him.
Something tells me this isn't ending soon.
“It's real. Everything.” He finally said with his hands glued to Eartha boobs.
“Why…?” I asked, my voice breaking. “ Why would you do this to me?
Freddie let out a small, annoyed sigh as he buttoned his shirt. “Why are you acting like this is a surprise?”
My brows furrowed in confusion. “What do you mean?”
“ This marriage was a mistake from the beginning,” he said coldly. The words hit me like a slap to the face.
“No. You said you loved me. You said you wanted to protect me.”
“That was before,” he replied, finally looking at me. But there was nothing in his eyes. No guilt, nothing. *Back then, you were pitiful. I helped you out of kindness.”
Kindness
Those words echoed in my head.
“So…. Everything was fake?” I whispered.
Eartha laughed softly behind him. “Maddie, don't make this dramatic. You should be grateful he even married you.”
I turned to her slowly, my hands clenching. My body is shivering.
“You're my sister.”
“Step sister,” she corrected, her smile widening. “And I just took what belongs to me.”
My chest rose and I fell as I struggled to breathe.
“Enough,” Freddie said while standing up. He went to the table and picked up some paper. Then walked towards me and pushed them into my hands.
“Sign it.”
I looked down at the papers, my vision blurry as I hoped it wasn't what I thought.
“Divorce papers,” he said flatly. “Let's end this.”
I looked up at him, my heart pounding.
“You're divorcing me, because you cheated?”
Tears slipped from my eyes as I tried to fathom what was happening. I should have turned a blind eye to it as usual, I shouldn't have disturbed him.
I should have kept quiet, acted dumb as usual and not been out of my league. Now what am I going to do if he truly divorce me ? How will I survive it!?
“Don't start twisting things,” he said, his tone laced with coldness. “You've been useless since we got married. You can't even give me a child. My family was right about you.”
I stared at the paper for a long moment. My hands were shaking, but my mind slowly went blank.
I would do anything he asked of me. Being his slave. His property, his rage, as long as he doesn't divorce me. As long as he doesn't chase me away. I will make sure I'm useful to him.
I knelt down and bowed my head. “Please Freddie, please give me a chance. Forgive me. I promise to turn a blind eye whenever I catch you sleeping with my sister.” I pleaded with him, but the laughter coming from earth made me realize what I just did.
“You're even begging now.” She mocks me. “Maybe after the divorce, I could give her a job as a cleaner since that's what she's good at.” Freddie replied to Eartha who shook her head at the ideas.
“No babe. I can't stand the sight of her. She irritates me to the core. “ Looking at the earth, I realized how pitiful she was. I just made myself look in front of them.
Cleaning off my tears, I took the paper divorce paper and signed it. The moment I finished, Freddie took the papers from me immediately, like he couldn't wait anymore.
“Leave,” he said. “You didn't bring anything into this house anyway, so don't take anything out.”
I couldn't protest, not utter a word. I stood there for a few seconds, looking at the two people who destroyed everything I believe in.
Then I turned around, with nothing other than my health. Of course I should be grateful I'm walking out of here alive. Most married women who stay in toxic marriages don't always walk away alive.
The cold air hit my skin the moment I stepped outside. It was late already. I didn't even know when it started raining.
Water soaked through my clothes but I didn't care. I just kept walking. Hoping to find a destination or perhaps a saviour.
Not quite long, a car suddenly slowed down beside me. Bright light flashed across my face which made me scared for some second.
What if it's a bad man inside there and he wants to kidnap me? I moved back a little from the road, just watching what whoever that's inside is trying to do.
The car finally stopped and in a second, the door went open, followed by footsteps. Then I heard a voice.
“Maddie?” my body froze. How did this person know my name? I turne
d slowly and moved forward a little, then I saw him.
Camden.
Freddie's father.
“Why are you out here in the rain? Get in the car.”

I screamed.Within seconds, he appeared."Get the car ready. Now!""Yes, ma'am."The guards moved quickly while Kenzo helped lift Camden. But before they could
Chapter 25CamdenFor years, I believed I had buried my past.I believed the man responsible for destroying everything I cared about was gone.Dead.But now he was standing right in front of me.Alive.Smiling.Like he hadn't spent years hiding. My fingers tightened into a fist as I stared at him.No one moved. Not even the guards.Because they were just as shocked as I was."Maddie's father was right," the old man said with a mocking smile. "You really have changed, Camden."My eyes narrowed."You have no right to call my name."His smile faded slightly."Still angry after all these years?"Angry? That word wasn't enough. The man standing in front of me was the reason I lost my mother. The reason Elena was gone. The reason my entire life was built on lies."You should be dead."The words left my mouth coldly. He laughed."That's what everyone believed."Maddie looked between us, confused."Camden..."I looked at her.She deserved answers. But she also deserved protection.I stepped
Chapter 24 MaddieThe room became too quiet. So quiet that I could hear my own heartbeat.Everyone was looking at me.Clara.Kenzo.And most importantly...Camden.His face was unreadable, but I noticed something I had never seen before.Fear.Not anger. Not confidence.Fear.My fingers tightened around the letter. My mother's words were still in my head.*"The person who saved you is the one you should fear."*And now I was standing in front of the same man who saved me.The man who found me in the rain. The man who protected me.The man who gave me a new life.My husband."Camden..."My voice came out weak.He didn't move."Maddie."His voice was low."Listen to me."I looked down at the letter."My mother knew you?"Silence. That silence hurt more than any answer."Did she?"I looked at him again."Did my mother know you before she died?"His jaw tightened. Then he slowly nodded."Yes."My heart sank.Clara gasped softly."You knew Elena?"Camden looked at her."Yes."I stepped ba
