"What is this?" Ianth snapped in anger, glaring at the untouched plates across the table.
I glanced at the spread—scrambled eggs, toast, and yes, a small pile of steamed broccoli. I had been up since dawn: bathing him, laying out his clothes, preparing breakfast and lunch, all to keep him on schedule for his daycare.
"What’s the problem, Ianth?" I asked, emerging from the kitchen with a pot in one hand and his lunchbox in the other.
Ianth snorted in disgust. "I told you I don't like broccoli."
"Sweetheart, Broccoli is a vegetable. It contains fiber and antioxidants. It is good for your health as a kid." I maintained a smile, arranging the pots on the table.
It wasn't the first time I tried to explain the benefits of what I include in his food timetable. But Ianth wasn't having any of it.
"I don’t want it," he said, crossing his arms. "What about my lunchbox?"
I handed it to him with a quiet sigh. He opened it—then hurled it to the floor, a deafening sound echoed in the entire house.
"Ianth!" I called him sternly. I knew he had an attitude but not to this extent. "What is your problem?" The ground was messy with food.
"First thing in the morning, every other kid has a warm cup of milk to drink. There was none for breakfast except the green broccoli that turned my appetite down. There are still no milk candies or chocolates in my lunch box! What am I supposed to eat?" Ianth was already breathing hard because he said the words without stopping to catch a breath.
I stood up and hurried towards him. I held his hand and patted his back, trying to help him regulate his breath. Ianth has been suffering from a gastroesophageal reflux disease, GERD. Most times, he suffers severe heart burns and nausea if he eats what isn't good for his health.
"Mommy, can you please give me some milk? I really want some warm milk." Ianth looked at me with pitiful eyes. His mouth was pouting and lone tears fell on his beautiful face.
I felt so heartbroken seeing him plead for something he wanted so much. Ianth doesn't fully understand his health issues and allergy. Milk and chocolate are comforting but I am more concerned about his stomach acids. I made it a habit to always double-check the ingredients I make use of in preparing his meals because one misstep can lead to great damage and I can't see my son in the slightest pain.
"Sweetheart, mommy is sorry. You will be able to have milk and chocolate again very soon but for now, you need to stick to your timetable until your health gets better." I tried to explain to him while arranging his hair.
Ianth tore away from me and broke down into sobs. He has been spoiled by my husband. But he isn't to be blamed for his health problems.
"These days, kids are allergic to everything because they weren't exposed early enough." Mirelle walked into the dining room with a smile that didn't look genuine.
I frowned upon her presence. "That's not how allergies work. A tiny exposure to an allergy could be fatal." I defended myself.
Mirelle has been living in this house for a few weeks and everytime, she pretends to help in matters that concern Ianth but she judges me with her words.
"He is allergic to those things because you didn't feed it to him when he was younger. I tell you, that is the problem." Mirelle insisted.
I scoffed at her defiance. What exactly was she driving at? Is she trying to say I denied Ianth of those sweet things intentionally? "You can't understand." I murmured.
"Are you referring to the fact that I don't have a child?" Her voice got raised a little bit.
But I wasn't in the mood for an argument. I gave birth to Ianth and I have been taking care of him like a mother should since he was a baby. A stranger cannot just walk in and tell me what to do.
"I didn't mention that. Ianth is my son. Therefore, you should maintain your lane."
Mirelle folded her arms against her chest. "Ianth cries all the time just because you refuse to give him what he wants. The boy needs comfort and it comes from these juicy things."
"Those things are not healthy for him."
"Oh, please. It wouldn't kill him. Every other child takes these things and they are fine." She scoffed.
I turned to her. "Are you referring to the time you tried to give him chocolate and he suffered heartburn for several days?" I fired, hating her guts. "I am his mother and I know what is good for him."
Ianth continued crying and no matter what I did in trying to coax him, he wouldn't budge. All he cried for was milk and chocolate. Why doesn't he understand that this is hard for me too? Well, he is just a child.
"I will take him away for a while." Mirelle suggested, almost pushing me to a side and offering to pick Ianth from the floor.
"No. I can take care of him." I refused with a blank look.
"It is obvious he isn't listening to your pleas. Let me try to calm him down." Mirelle was practically challenging me with her eyes.
I wasn't the type to back down but when I saw Ianth wouldn't stop crying, I allowed her to take him reluctantly. I took a mop and wiped the dining room clean.
"Honey..." Eirik walked into the room with a relaxed energy.
I didn't answer him at first. I was angry that he hadn't come down when he must have heard the breaking of things and commotion from upstairs.
"You have to talk to Mirelle. She keeps ignoring her boundaries, judging me of how I treat my son and offering to be a bloody good samaritan. Who does that?" I vented out my boiled up frustrations.
Eirik sighed, approaching me slowly. "You need to calm down. I am sure she is only trying to help." He said,
"Trying to help? She wasn't here when Ianth's issues began! Have you forgotten?" I was trying my best not to yell.
Eirik pulled me closer so he was hugging me. "Thalia, she has no idea but -- I will inform her."
"You say that everytime and nothing is done." I heaved through my chest.
Eirik has always supported Mirelle. He saw nothing wrong with whatever she does, especially when it involves our son. Am I too strict? If it concerns the wellbeing of my son, I would do ten times more than that.
All of a sudden, a scream pierced the air and I froze.
"Madam, it's your son!" One of the maids ran inside, shouting at the top of her voice.
Thalia's pov"I'm sorry I haven't dropped by for several days. Did you miss me?" I asked, touching his hands."Look, I brought your favourite porridge soup." I brought out the small flask and opened it, the scent filling the entire room.My eyes watered in remembrance. If Ianth was sitting right in front of me, he'd be so excited to eat the soup with me. That had been his favorite ever since I came back."William came with me today. He became friends with someone special. Don't you want to see her? She is beautiful and very reserved. She reminded me of you when you were also seven years old." I rambled on."Please, wake up soon, sweetheart. We are all waiting for you. We need you to wake up." Rachel was standing outside the door, waiting for me. I wiped my eyes, sniffed before leaving the room. Ianth has been on that bed for more than a month."Thalia, are you alright?" Rachel asked in concern as she rubbed my arms.I nodded with a small smile. "I am fine. Is there something wrong?"
Lorion's pov"Can you stay with Aunty Thalia for some time? I want to take care of something." I crouched to Arianna's size."Will you stay long?" She wrote. I shook my head, "I won't stay too long, I promise." I withdrew a small phone from my pocket and gave it to her.I had always kept the phone with me and never had to use it except in rare cases of emergencies. Now, I was giving it to Ariana because she needed it more."If you ever feel alone or burdened, sad or worried, call the only number on this burner phone anytime and I will come running to you, alright?" I held her shoulders. She looked at the phone in her hands, gripping it tightly. "Is this a goodbye message?" She scribbled.Goodbye message? I almost laughed. "It seems you've watched a lot of action movies, sweetie but no, I'm not saying goodbye. I'm only —"Arianna cut me off abruptly with a hug. Her hands wrapped around my neck and I embraced her back. It was good news because she was warming up towards me slowly. I'd
Lorion's pov "He was once a worker? Has he worked here before?" I asked.John pushed back his glasses, "Yes. Mr Philip was the vice chairman, second in position to Mr Eirik. He handled everything else, rarely allowing me to do anything as the assistant. But recently around last year, he was suspected. Mr Eirik finally caught him.""What was he doing?" Thalia asked. He sighed, "He was involved in fraudulent activities. He constantly transferred money from the company's account to an unknown account. He sold products for high prices in the market. Mr Eirik found out and fired him, blocking his access to the company.""So, how did he get in unnoticed? How did he do it?" I was literally running insane. The so-called Philip couldn't be recognized by other workers when he walked into the company's building. We let our guard down, allowing the enemy to walk in like he owned the place."I have no idea. He must have planned it very well. According to the footage, he dressed like he was one of
Lorion's pov"We can't get the lost files very quickly. It will take about a week." The expert who knew about CCTVs said,I scoffed, "A week? Can't it be hastened up?" I asked, hating the saliva in my mouth itself.Everything was just extremely annoying lately. Why was nothing ever working in my favor? If the CCTV files were retrieved, I would be able to find the one who planted those things in the company and from there, we will know the exact culprit working behind the scenes.I entered the car, dropped the flash drives somewhere and drove back to the office. Arianna was right beside the driver seat, sitting like the princess that she was."You look really handsome when angry." Arianna showed me her book after I had parked in the car parking space.I read the short line and chuckled, looking at her. "That should be a good thing, right?"She shrugged, removing her seat belt as I had taught her before. I'd need to take her to school. She was smarter than many other kids but the issue
Lorion's pov "It must have been deleted." I read what Arianna wrote.Literally, I wanted to run insane when I saw the footage was empty. It didn't have what we were looking for. First of all, she surprised me by saying that and second? "How do you know?""What do you mean?" Thalia asked. She pointed at the laptop before scribbling down on her notes and showed it to me."The footage should at least have William's mommy captured since it's fixed around the way to her office but the entire footage is empty which meant whoever wants to cover his track deleted every single video there, including where we should have seen her." I read aloud.According to what she just said, she was very right. The CCTV would have Thalia's video because she took the route to her office every single day. There was no reason for her videos not to be on the footage but there was nothing there, including what we are searching for."What are we supposed to do now that we can't find the footage?" John asked."Whe
Thalia's povI ruffled my hair, exhaling harshly. I didn't mean to speak to Lorion that way. I just...I was frustrated with everything that was happening. We needed to find a way to sort out things before it would be too late."I might not be half as good as Eirik but....I must save the company." Lorion said, turning away from me.I sighed, "Lorion, I wasn't comparing you to Eirik. Giving you the company isn't my business anymore but we need to do something. We need to think and act fast. I'm telling you to exert your authority as CEO!""What are you talking about?" He turned back to me."Clearly, someone has set a trap for us and we are diving right into it. The cameras in my office, the planted evidence, Eirik’s arrest...it was all planned. The only thing that person didn't know was that you'd be made CEO. We need to dismantle the plans from the root. You won't like your brother. You'd do something you know you can do as the CEO that you are now." I explained."Alright. I understand
