Eirik’s pov Thalia didn't show up at the office till closing time. She didn't attend her first meeting as a shareholder. The way she rushed out earlier told me something went wrong. I wanted to call her, ask if she was fine, if everything was okay but the number didn't go through. It seemed she changed numbers. I searched the information she submitted at the latter in the shareholder's document and found the new number yet I couldn't dial it. What if she flips on me? She already hates me. I shouldn't make her hate me more. Whatever she went to sort out, I could only hope it wasn't something serious. "Will you be working overtime today, sir?" John asked, I paused, remembering the calendar Thalia showed me earlier. In her words, she insinuated John skipped some important meeting with investors intentionally but what if he skipped it by mistake and she was wrong? John has been my assistant for many years. He was someone I have always trusted. There was no way he would sideline investors. For what reason? Investors yield sales and more profit for the company. What gain does he achieve if the company goes down the drain? "John, you can leave. I will leave soon too." I answered, wanting to investigate it on my own. He nodded and was about to leave. But he stopped, "Sir, do you trust the new shareholder? Miss Thalia Orleans?" He asked. The question was a little bit absurd. How can Thalia expose something about John and in turn, he is also weary of her? Something was definitely fishy. "Why do you ask?" I decided to play around a little. John can't betray me. I do not believe he can turn against me. For what reason exactly? Why would he decide to do something like that? Except if he was acting on someone's orders but who? The only person it could be is Lorion, my brother but he doesn't even have anything to do under my company. He can't lay his hands on anything here. John hesitated, "She is your ex-wife, sir. What if she came back to do something sinister against you?" He said, "No, John. Thalia won't do anything like that. I trust her." I said with confidence. Thalia can't possibly do anything to hurt me. She was just hurt that I betrayed her and I would do anything to make her forgive me. She came to be the shareholder of my company to remind me of that. Soon, she will be mine again. John nodded slightly and left. I understood his concerns but I wasn't worried at all. If John didn't alternate my calendar, who could have done it? What if there was someone else who has access to it? There was no one except three people. John, Thalia and I. Thalia just arrived. Could she have done that just to frame John? No, she isn't someone like that. She said the alternation occurred and I believed her but I do not believe that John did it. The majority of my work concluded yesterday. There was no need to work overtime today. I checked the time. It was almost 8pm. I took my suit and bag, heading downstairs. With a second thought, I went back upstairs, straight to Thalia's office. I opened the door and it was exactly how it was the last time I came here. The office was once mine. I worked here first when my company hadn't gotten to this point in the country. I worked hard to get to the position I was today. I walked further into the office, checking out the area. She was still the same Thalia I knew. Decent and clean. Her desk barely had anything except the wooden tag of 'shareholder' I opened the drawers gently. There was nothing else there. Except one of them. It was locked. I frowned, staring at the locked drawer. What could be in there? What was Thalia hiding? Important documents? I tried to look for the keys but they weren't even present in the office. She must have taken the keys with her. I stood up, groaning loudly in frustration. My curiosity grew larger by each passing second. What was Thalia hiding? I gave up. I couldn't find the keys. There was no way I would try to break the drawer open. Thalia will get even more angry at me and that wasn't what I needed right now. I decided to leave it be. I was about to leave when I stopped again, turning towards a ninety degree angle. My eyes widened before getting replaced with darkness. A camera. There was a damn camera in Thalia's office. I didn't fix it and I was sure Thalia wouldn't fix a camera just to look at herself. The only one capable of doing something so wrong was – Lorion. My hands clenched into fists. That son of a bitch. He was definitely monitoring Thalia without her knowledge. I knew my wife. She would never allow such a thing because she will count it as making her uncomfortable. What was Lorion's motive? What was he doing watching Thalia with a camera? Or he may have fixed it because of me. He knew I would try to chase Thalia so he wanted to monitor my movements in her office. Very good. It just made things less difficult for me. I stepped closer to the camera, dipping my head sideways slightly. I found what I wanted and rushed out. "John, I need you to do something for me." I called my assistant. But I paused again. Thalia was suspicious of John. Thinking of the camera, there was no way Lorion would have fixed that all by himself. He must have sent someone. Someone who wasn't familiar with the floors of the company couldn't do such clean work as fixing that camera. It must be someone who was inside and the only person who was capable would be John. "Boss?" John called, still on the call. I snapped out of it, "Never mind. I will sort it out myself." I ended the call immediately.Hi there, lovely readers. Thalia's povMy son has been kidnapped. Other people's kids were in the class. How can they take just my son? What do they want from me? A ransom? I would gladly let them have whatever they wanted."Put a call through to her now." I ordered, tears smearing my makeup.I didn't have the time to think about anything else. I just wanted to see my baby boy, William. I just wanted to hold him in my arms. I mustn't lose the only one that mattered to me."There is a woman here. She insists —" I took the phone from her immediately. I placed the phone on my ear, "Yes, this is William's mother. William Orleans.""William? Oh. I remember your boy. Is there a problem? I'm sorry I am sick and couldn't stay in school long enough." She said respectfully. I nodded, gripping the phone tightly. "Yes, there is some sort of problem. William – someone called me from school saying my son isn't in class. I was surprised and remember dropping him off with you before I left this morning.""William isn't in c
Thalia's pov Last night didn't end well for Lorion. My dad was a little disappointed that he was part of the Jones family. That was what my mom wanted anyway, insisting that was must be why she has been weary of him.Lorion had to leave. I mouthed to him that I was sorry. I didn't mean for it to slip out like that. I should have kept it to myself. But time can't go back anymore. The information about Eirik’s assistant was found by me while I managed the calendars I got. I was supposed to be quiet about it. Since Eirik had no idea his assistant was capable of doing such, I may as well pretend like I didn't know anything. But investors would be lost.Just before I had a second thought about it, I was already on my way to his office. Of course, it didn't end well because he mentioned Ianth.I scoffed. That was typical Eirik Jones. He would always use Ianth to get to me since he knew that was my weak spot but not anymore. How can he be so pretentious just like a bastard my dad always cal
Eirik’s pov In the morning, as usual, there was no breakfast and I didn't bother to wait for it. Anna's food last night was manageable. At least, I ate three out of the eight different things she cooked.Upon getting to the office, Thalia was just coming in with Lorion. My brows deepened with a frown. Why was he here again? Acting like Thalia's bodyguard or was he going to join the company as a shareholder too?I sighed and began the day's work. Many files, scheduled meetings and deals were waiting for me to be sorted out. I needed to finish up within the next three hours."Good morning, sir." John came in.I raised my head up slightly. "It is not a good morning, John. What is the matter? It isn't time for the first meeting yet.""Well..." John hesitated, his eyes running around. "The thing is Miss Orleans insisted about having an audience with you." He said,I almost flew out of my seat in a hurry and panicked. My office was littered, that was why I told John not to allow anyone in
Thalia's pov My mind couldn't settle down for more than an hour. I kept thinking about Eirik’s facial expression earlier. It wasn't about the lies or the fact that I wanted revenge, it was something else.Somehow, I felt he looked like he had lost something. The expression was more than being troubled. It was almost as if he was grieving or maybe he lost someone. Many questions whirled in my head as I tried to think about the instances. His home was probably peaceful. What else should I expect? He married Mirelle and they probably have another child together while I was here thinking about him."Thalia..." My mom called, pulling me out of my thoughts.I snapped back to reality, only for me to realize the chicken broth had thickened too much and cannot be lightened anymore. We would have to eat it for dinner like that."You are thinking about him again." She pointed out with a sigh, taking the big spoon from my hands. She added a little tomato water to loosen the broth texture and res
Eirik’s povI went back to the office with a heavy heart. Ianth has never asked me for anything ever since he fell sick and started getting admitted to the hospital. But several minutes ago, he asked me to beg his mommy to come back. My initial plan was to explain things and apologize to her about everything that happened. Now, Ianth said that wouldn't work. We have to beg Thalia to come back to us. That was the only way. Even if I would roll or crawl on the ground, I will beg her to return to us.The company was filled with fewer people. Recently, this was the way I worked in the office. Just because I didn't want to go home early or maybe I just wanted to avoid Mirelle, I always worked overtime and sometimes overnight. It was past six pm. I took the elevator and strode to my office. I had passed by Thalia without even looking at her. There was no time for that at the moment. I locked my office door and buried myself in work. That has been the routine. No meals, no break and defin
