Chapter 2

Author: Oversweet Cola
Simba snuggled comfortably in my arms. I cried until I was completely worn out and eventually dozed off.

The next morning, Seth and I were woken up by a strange noise.

I quickly ran to the bathroom once we saw each other. Inside, I saw Seth's face staring back at me in the mirror.

I pinched my cheek. It hurt.

This was not a dream.

A counter with the number twenty on it suddenly appeared on our wrists.

A book of instructions was lying on the coffee table in the living room. It informed us that this was a game to bring married couples closer together. If we hit a hundred points and told each other 'I love you', we would be able to switch back.

We stared at each other, unsure what to do. Suddenly, the doorbell rang.

It was my mother-in-law. She would show up almost every weekend without informing us beforehand, and she would act like a superior conducting a spot check at a worksite.

This was another one of those days.

Seth stood up and reflexively called her 'Mom'.

She looked at me adoringly as she held my hand. There was a pained look on her face as she told me I was too skinny and started to berate Seth.

"I don’t think you deserve to call me ‘Mom’, Nicole. I don’t understand this. I returned to the factory to work right after I recovered from giving birth to Seth. Are you so delicate that you can’t do anything after losing one child?

"I can admit that you’re not in good health and accept that you refuse to work after getting married, but you can't mistreat Seth this way. You don't clean the pots and pans, you don't do laundry, and you can't even cook well. Look at yourself! You’re still in your pajamas and sleeping on the sofa even though the sun’s already up! Are you waiting for Seth to do everything for you?"

Seth was in my body and had no idea how to reply.

I tried to help him out. "Mom, Nicole is…"

However, my mother-in-law interrupted me forcefully. "Stop siding with her. She doesn't care about you at all."

She pulled me over to the sofa and turned on the television for me.

After that, she started walking around the house to criticize Seth.

I turned back to glance at him. I had heard these same complaints so many times before.

When I confided in Seth about it, he always said that she was still his mother and I should not take her words to heart.

Now that he was rendered speechless by what had happened, I wondered what was going through his mind.

Seth and I were relieved to see my mother-in-law finally leave.

We began to go over our social circles with each other to prevent our situation from being exposed and to avoid any further trouble.

He looked at me. There was a light in his eyes that was so mesmerizing that I could hardly look away.

We had been married for three years. He had never looked at me with so much concern and care, even when we were newly married.

Seth was worried I would make a mistake at work when I went to the office in his place. He was worried that I would say something wrong or get intimidated when other departments asked for a meeting with me.

I remembered how his eyes had lit up the same way when he proposed to me. He told me the most romantic thing he had ever done was taking me as his wife.

It only took three short years before those became empty words.

I listened as he told me who his closest colleagues were and who could be trusted. I listened as he shared the funniest and hottest office gossip.

There was a small smile on his face. It had been a long time since he shared any stories with me.

We used to confess to each other how much we missed one another through Simba. Our hearts were still intertwined back then.

After that, I was trapped in the daily routine of managing a family. I was almost losing my sense of self.

"It's been a long time since you've told me stories like this…”

He seemed slightly taken aback when I said this. He was silent for a while before awkwardly changing the subject.

Since that day, he suddenly started treating me better.

He would come over to kiss me before I left in the morning. During the night, he would quietly hug me around the waist while I slept. He would share every detail about what happened to him during the day. It felt like we had gone back to the time when we started dating.

I was grateful for this strange game. He finally understood me and cared for me again.

Seth grabbed the corner of my shirt while still lying in bed. He glanced at the counter. "I promise I’ll never cheat on you again after going through all of this. I'll do my very best to take care of you and the baby. I'm sorry. Can you give me another chance?"Things had already ended up this way. Sorrow was the only thing left in my heart.I shook my head and finally turned to look at him. "Have you ever considered how you would’ve treated me if it weren't for this body switch? It's too late for us, Seth."He looked at me with reddened eyes and tried to hold my hand."We can't divorce, Nicole. We still have our baby. She's still so young. Shouldn't we give her a complete family?"No. There was no going back."I don't want to."Yes, you've changed. For the first time in your life, you’re willing to choose your family over the rest of the world."But you can’t expect me to wait around until you make the right choice."I'm the only one I can trust. No one dares to bully me now.

"It's only now that I realize no one will remember me once the glamorous shell of Seth Rothman is gone. No one loves me. Even my parents are selfish and only think of themselves. I'm so pitiful!"I was silent for a long time before I said slowly, "The day I found out you were cheating on me, I asked myself the same questions. When your mom ordered me around like a maid, I asked myself the same questions. Seth, even when I lost the baby back then, I asked myself the same questions."My eyes widened as I looked at him. "I once worked up the courage to tear that cage open with full force, but you pushed me back inside again and again."You claim no one loves you, but you're wrong, Seth. Someone did love you before. You were the one who didn't want her."Stop thinking about this. I took some time off to accompany you. Just rest and focus on giving birth."Seth asked, "Is that all you have to say to me?""I have no idea what else to say." I lowered my head to look at him. "I would sym

"I'm not making a fuss. I've been eating vegetables and fruits every day, and I walked back home even though the weather is hot. I'm also taking supplements regularly—"I turned back to look at him. "Don’t spew pregnancy advice everybody knows at me. You've always been a fast learner, so this shouldn't be difficult for you to pick up."He looked at me and lowered his voice. "I can learn. Really, I can. So, c-can you also t-try…""Try what?" I asked, even though I knew what he meant. I took out my phone. "Don't you have enough money? Don't worry. You used to give me $2,000 a month to manage our home. I'll give you double the amount. Just let me know if you want more."Seth seemed upset when he looked at me. "It's not about the money. Can’t you be a loving husband to your pregnant wife and show me more concern?"I looked at him, and my eyes turned cold."Isn't this the same way you treated me before?"Where were you when I needed you back then? Where were you when I wanted you by

I heard the neighbors trying to talk sense into Seth's dad."What's going on with you, Mr. Rothman? Are you still hung up on the widowed Mrs. Whitman from the East Factory after all these years?""Why are you creating a scene in front of the kids when your own life is a mess, Mr. Rothman? You've already lived for more than half a century. Why are you making your life difficult now?""They're right, Mr. Rothman. You didn’t get divorced despite your cheating, and you're even welcoming a grandchild soon. Why would you blow this up at this point in your life?"I sneered silently. Interesting! Seth's dad had been cheating for years too. Like father, like son.Their house was crowded with the neighbors. It seemed like everyone had something to say about Seth's parents' marriage. All I wanted to do was get as far away from them as possible. When I got home the next day after work, I heard Seth's mom's voice before I even entered the house."I made you some soup, Nicole. It's really nu

I was still reeling from the conversation as I slowly stepped out of the room, one slow step at a time. The atmosphere in the living room was awkward. Seth's mom had a sharp tongue, but Seth was too exhausted to retort as he had used up all his energy trying not to fall asleep due to pregnancy-induced fatigue.Disgust spread through my entire body.Seth's dad spoke up first at the dinner table. He said in a light tone, "You should know better now that you're pregnant, Nicole. Take good care of the baby. Did you know that all mothers are strong? It's fine that you've lost a baby once, but you can't be as stubborn in the future." Before Seth could say anything, I looked up and stared at his dad. "Who do you think you're lecturing?"Seth's dad sat up in a dignified manner, and his face fell at my words. "Why are you talking to your father like that?""I'm not just talking, I'm doing this!"I grabbed the corner of the wooden table and flipped it with all my might. The burning soup

My sacrifice had not been worth it.Seth's video call interrupted my thoughts. I picked it up without much thought and waited for him to speak."Uh, what tea did you give my dad for Christmas? He asked me to bring some more for him if we still have it.""Tea?" I was taken aback. "Your dad really knows his stuff. That was a premium tea I managed to buy through a good friend. It's worth a few thousand dollars per pound. We only bought a small amount, and I gave all of it to your dad."Seth said carefully, "It's fine if we don't have any left. Since my dad called us, why don’t we visit him this weekend?"I agreed. We had not gotten a divorce yet, after all.Time passed quickly, and the weekend arrived very soon. We left for Seth's parents' house. The moment we stepped through the door, my mother-in-law held out an apron.I instinctively reached for it, but I quickly remembered that I was in Seth's body.Seth's mom pointed at 'Nicole' while ordering her around, "Seth's father want
