Rose stood in front of the courtroom and hugged Zack.

“Be good, Zack. Now that Henry is dead, there’s one less person fighting for the university of your choice. Remember to thank Matthew.”

When Zack saw Matthew standing across the road, he ran over happily.

Suddenly, a dump truck charged over and rammed into Zack before crushing him with its 22.5-inch tires. They ran over his body repeatedly until all his bones were crushed.

“Zack!” Rose turned pale. “Quick! Call the doctor! Matthew, hav

Matthew stayed by the bed and held a diagnosis report with trembling hands. “Terminal stage stomach cancer? Wendy, why didn’t you tell me? Why?”“Isn’t this what you wanted?”I gave Matthew the side-eye, and my face remained calm and indifferent. It was as if I was looking at a stranger. “Henry is gone, and I won’t be alive for much longer. Soon, you can be with Rose. Isn’t that great?”“Wendy, I’m begging you, please don’t say that. I really am sorry.”Matthew knelt by the bed. Perhaps this time, he truly learned how it felt to lose something precious. “Don’t worry, Wendy. I’ll contact the most prestigious doctors. I won’t let you die.”In just an hour, all the gastrointestinal oncologists in the country gathered in the hospital. This was the first time I learned that Matthew had his own private jet. So, he could mobilize so many medical resources within a short time! If Henry had gotten such treatment when he got into his accident, he might not have died. “There’s no need

Hurry up and save him!”“My son? He’s not worthy of it.”Matthew turned around coldly. The dump truck roared to life again, and two lives were lost that day. Matthew returned to the dilapidated rental house. The furnishing had not changed. He had not asked anyone to clean up the place. All he did every day was stare at the trophies lining the walls. On his ring finger was a cheap ring he had bought eighteen years ago. “Mr. Foster…”“Is there

[I placed first in school, and the school is going to organize a parent-teacher meeting. I really want Dad to come. He has never been to any of my parent-teacher meetings before. My classmates are all laughing at me and keep saying that I don’t have a father.][The SATs are over. I’m going to work part-time to earn money now. I’m already an adult and can help Dad share his burden.]As Matthew read Henry’s entries, grief filled his heart. Over the past eighteen years, in order to repay his dead comrade’s favor, he had stayed with Rose and Zack as her husband and his father so that the boy could have a complete childhood. He never bothered to think about what Henry went through. Matthew caressed the rough paper, and tears filled his eyes before dropping on the diary and covering the tear tracks that Henry had left behind after writing these pages. He no longer had the courage to continue reading. Instead, he asked his assistant to look for Wendy and Henry all over the city.Unfo

Matthew’s pupils shrank in shock, and he swayed a little. He remembered the moment when Henry was born. He had held Wendy’s hand and happily gave his son his name. “Let’s call our son Henry so that he can have the life of a king.”His son was dead? No. Henry grew up poor and had never received tutoring in all subjects, unlike Zack. How could he possibly be one of the top SAT scorers?Matthew whipped his head to the police officers. “What about the deceased’s family?”“The deceased grew up with his mother, and she has contacted a lawyer. She refuses to receive compensation.”Upon hearing this, Matthew sighed in relief and wiped away the sweat that had broken out on his forehead. This Henry only had his mother? Then, his son was not the one who died. “Matthew, Zack is still a child and did so well in his SATs. He has a bright future ahead. You have to think of some way to save him.”“Matthew, I don’t want to go to jail…”As he listened to Rose and Zack, Matthew said perfunct

The very next second, Matthew rushed over to instinctively kick my stomach before gingerly helping Rose up. She leaned in his embrace and pretended to be strong, despite her bruised calf.“I’m fine, Matthew. Rose might have misunderstood our relationship. Things will be fine after she hits me to vent it out.”Matthew shielded Rose before glaring at me coldly. “Wendy, Rose already has a hard time being a single mother, and you’re still bullying her?! How could you be so evil?!”I crashed to the floor and felt as if someone had driven a spike into my stomach. Blood gushed to my throat. When the medical staff heard the commission, some of them ran over to help me up. “Take care of Rose first!” Matthew snapped at the medical staff. “But Mr. Foster, your wife is coughing up blood—”“Let her suffer! She just hurt Rose. This is her punishment!”I curled up on the hospital’s cold floor while sweat pearled over my forehead. My stomach clenched in pain, and it was getting worse by the

Suddenly, his phone rang, and I could hear Rose’s voice through the phone. “Matthew, Zack suddenly got sick, and I don’t know what to do.”“Calm down. I’m coming over right now!”Matthew turned around without hesitation. In his haste, his car ran over Henry’s funeral wreath and crushed it.“The company suddenly said that I need to do overtime. I have to go back right now.”I got out of the car and watched Matthew drive away before walking into the cemetery’s mourning hall on my own. Then, I stared at Henry’s black-and-white memorial photo. Before passing away, Henry had wanted to see his father one final time. Unfortunately, his last wish was not granted. I welcomed my friends and family as I hosted the funeral. When it was over, I personally placed my son’s urn into his grave. I kept recalling the moments I spent together with Henry, and sadness filled every inch of my body so violently that I coughed up blood and fainted in front of my son’s grave. When I woke up, I w
