Reid walks over to my side and takes my hands in his bigger ones, holding it up above my head. “She is not single anymore so no one should come close to what is mine.”

Dad chuckles, squeezing Mum’s hands all over again.

I roll my eyes though at the almost cringey public display of ‘affection’.

“I had no idea you had another makeover within the hour I was gone… Who would have known you’d look so hot in red hair and bangs.” Reid whispers into my ears, his warm breath fanning the back of my ears.

I resist the urge to touch my cheeks that I can feel have turned bright red.

“Uhm… Dad, I think we can take this,” I use my hands to signify just family, “Inside.”

He nods. “Sure beta, I’ll get your Uncle Max to make sure the guests are well taken care of. Let’s go.”

Within the next two minutes of walking across the yard, I receive over ten handshakes, about three hugs, all telling me congratulations on my new post, but the cheery cute lady from before is nowhere in sight.
