Chapter 3: His Work

The sun dances on the curtain on our kitchen's window, and its golden rays shine in the room as if it were an open day. The scent of fresh flowers fills the entire house, the air is fragrant with their sweet fragrance, the birds chirp happily outside of our windows.

I put the apron on my body as I move around the kitchen. I'm humming while I prepare breakfast. It's something that I do for him most of the time. I took a moment to look at the clock hanging above the refrigerator, and I smiled because it was still early, I was sure that it would be Lucas sooner or later.

I admit that Lucas often stays up late or overtime in his work, I hardly ever see him take his eyes off his laptop. We often don't even talk because he falls asleep right away, that's why I wake up even earlier so I can prepare breakfast for him.

I can't help but be singing while cooking, I'm sure he'll be happy again when the fragrant smell of what I'm cooking for him comes out later.

I get a mug to prepare a cup of coffee for him. The smell of freshly brewed coffee permeates through the air. After that, I pick a music from my phone and start preparing some dishes. The first dish I cook is the pancakes. They're his favorite. He always asks me about them before he even sits down at the table. So, I make him more of this. After that, I started making the rest of the dishes. I make scrambled eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, and bread.

I'm happy with what I'm doing as long as I know it's for Lucas. Although I know that this is also one of my responsibilities as his wife, when it comes to other things I will never hesitate to help and make him happy.

I will only put the last thing I cooked on the table when my eyes catch Lucas.

His hair was disheveled and his eyes looked tired. I couldn't help but worry for him, because it was obvious how the job was affecting him.

"Good morning, honey!" I approached him and quickly gave him a kiss on his cheek.

"Morning..." He took a sip of the coffee I prepared for him, and just smiled at me, it didn't even reach his eyes.

I'm still waiting, for him to touch me with a kiss on my cheek, or for him to feed me a pancake before he eats it like he used to do before, but nothing happened like what I had in mind. I took a sip, just getting rid of the negativity that was playing in my mind.

"Sit down now."

"Wait, I'm just going to get some tissues."

"Thanks for doing this, Dianna. I'm tired and I really need to taste your dishes." I smiled back at him, in an instant the sadness I was feeling disappeared again.

"You are welcome, Lucas. You know I'm always here for you. Besides, I'll support you in everything you want, as long as you're happy." I sat down again and we ate together.

"How sweet of you, Dianna. You are my hope, you know that. I am very grateful to you because you were also the reason why the company that I was inherited from my father did not sink completely."

"Maybe if you didn't help me financially, I would have been picked up somewhere else. I'm sure the media would also make fun of me."

"Honey, don't say that. I won't leave you hanging on that kind of situation. The fact that I'm helping you, really comes from the bottom of my heart," I replied to him.

My only wish is that their company will not have serious problems again. Even so, I don't regret how much money I invested to save his family's company. I just can't stand him being problematic either. I'm sure that's also for our dreams.

"Just always remember this, Lucas..."

"I love you. I love you so much, almost more than my life. Until now I will stay with you in every dream you have."

"I love you too, Dianna." He smiled at me as I took another sip of my coffee. For a few moments, we both felt the vibration of his cell phone that was resting on the table near the side of his right elbow. I hadn't even looked at it when he immediately stood up and took it.

"Hm, just work related. I'll just answer," he said, as he excused himself. I nodded and followed him with my eyes. The demands of his work were really beginning to get to him as a human being.

I was sad watching him. I also couldn't avoid feeling annoyed for myself, especially for what I thought about him in the past few days. I kept wondering if he would forgive me if I said everything that was on my mind?

What if I didn't just help their company rise again? Will Lucas have enough days for me?

It's just really hard not to think about it. There's a part of me that keeps on longing for how simple our life was when we were in our teenage years. When we are just a low-key couple who go out together and then get back home to spend quality time with each other, doing nothing at all except watching TV, eating popcorn and making fun of the terrible actors on their show, laughing at every cheesy thing they say, cuddling.

I took a harsh sigh, maybe growing up or getting married can really change one's life. It's like, you can't just be happy and be in love and still live happily.

"Dianna, I need to go."

"Huh? But you haven't finished your breakfast yet." I even looked at the things I cooked that were almost half gone.

"Sorry, but there's a sudden meeting. And I have an appointment I must be early to," he answered with his deep voice which could make anyone melt in a second and a half.

Even if I wanted to object, I couldn't do anything because he hurriedly went back to his room to get dressed. My gaze fell on the table.

"That's fine, Dianna. For sure, Lucas' busyness will also pass," I seemed to convince myself.
