2025-05-03 09:03:31Just like a vapor, his thought disappeared from my mind and I continued to rest. My mother returned from the training with an untold joy. She was connected with an employer. Out of the two hundred participants, she was the only one qualified for the job. Or the only one willing to take the job. Her nursing background was an added value.
It requires a woman who would be with an aged woman throughout the night. The other women rejected the offer because of their families but my mother was willing to do it.
"Wow! This is interesting. What is the pay like?" I asked her at once.
"I have not asked but I guess that it would be interesting. Besides, I won't be idle," she answered me happily.
"You are right. Congratulations."
"Thank you for the compliment. You made it happen," she responded.
"It is my pleasure."
"I have a take home assignment. I will handle it after I have rested."
"It is all right."
The Bar And Resort
Clement did not leave the resort when we left. He stayed back just to attend the training. To his detriment, he was not admitted but asked to submit his application online.
"I have done that," he lied.
"Then wait for an employer who would need you. We will contact you through the details you supplied in your application," the organizers informed him.
He swallowed hard and accepted. He was angry not because he was not admitted but because he wasted his time and did not rest as he ought to.
We got to work and met him sleeping on the couch. Johnathan tapped his legs and he jolted.
"How was the training?" He asked him.
"I was not admitted," he sleep-talked.
We burst into a raucous laughter, and he opened his eyes wide.
"Curiosity will not kill you," he teased him.
He smiled shyly and walked to the bathroom to wash up while I joined my supervisor. I recalled his proposal the first day I resumed - I will help you to adapt quickly if you cooperate with me.
I never knew what he meant by that but I suspected that he may want to take advantage of me like Mr. Zenith. From my observation, I was wrong, he had no such thing in mind. Since the day he knew that I had a senior sister who was kind enough to buy a phone for me, he had never stopped asking me about her. That day was no different.
"How is your sister," he asked me after the greetings.
"She is fine," I answered him.
"Good. Do you tell her that I often asked of her?"
"No," I gave an honest response.
He looked into my eyes and asked me, "Ha! Why?"
"You did not ask me to do that."
"You are right. I am asking you to do that now," he instructed me.
"I will," I promised him.
Truly, he had helped me to adapt and I was grateful for that. We started our work that day like every other day and did not envisage any violence until the police stormed our place in search of some illicit drug dealers.
Mr. Zenith's Office
I was hopeful that Julius' application letter would be in the email address. Nevertheless, Johnson would not let me be. He had called me several times to remind me about lunch.
Whenever I will speak with him, I will conceal my worries about Julius and laugh aloud. The last call came five minutes after we spoke and I was angry.
"Do you think I don't have anything to do other than answer your calls?" I yelled at him.
He was expecting that and was not bothered about my mood. Instead, he laughed and responded, "I know. I just wished to get you angry. Now that you are angry, I will let you be."
His statement angered me the more, and I canceled the appointment, "Sorry to inform you that I am not coming for lunch again."
"Why, if I may ask?" He asked me anxiously
"I just remembered that my car is faulty."
"Oh! I can come and pick you up," he volunteered.
"Don't come," I said bluntly and cut the call.
"Just imagine that. Is it a crime to be connected with him," I hissed and went back to work.
Just then, I got a message from the Public Relations Officer of the Gold Miners Association reminding me of a meeting scheduled for 11 AM.
"Huh! I completely forgot," I said to myself.
The time was 10:30 AM. I had thirty minutes to get to the venue. Nevertheless, with my state of mind, I could not guarantee that I would be stable to attend. Rather, I would join them on online.
Having concluded that I replied to the message informing the PRO of my decision. He replied immediately acknowledging my message. At that point, my head was full with so many things. Julius' information was top on the list. Lunch with Johnson was not yet settled.
"I must have offended him with my rude behavior," I thought.
To put myself together, I decided to call him.
Johnson's Office
I was not angry with Reuben for being rude. Rather, I relished getting him angry and his reactions turned me on. Nevertheless, I was confident that he loved me and would call me back to strengthen things. As for work, I was not bothered about it. I have worked so hard to bring my business to that level. Giving my emotional needs so much time would not collapse it.
Just as I thought, my phone buzzed, and I looked at the caller. A broad smile flickered throughout my face when I saw Reuben's call.
I fought back my tears of triumph before I picked up his call and greeted him with a clear voice void of anger, "Hello, Reuben. What's up?"
"Hello, Johnson. What is our conclusion concerning lunch?"
"I'm coming over to pick you up since your car is faulty."
"I don't want to bother you. I will find my way."
"That is nice of you. I will be waiting," I said and he ended the call.
Instantly, I called my clerk and instructed him on the meal to get for us.
"Do a good job. I'm expecting a guest."
"I got it, Boss," he said and walked away.
