Chapter 2

Author: Violet Shen
I was freaking out. If Yannick managed to escape, everything I had done would have been for nothing. So, I shut my eyes and tackled him. "Don’t move! Just listen to me!"

Yannick gritted his teeth so hard it looked like he was about to snap them in half. "Are you out of your mind?"

I lifted my head slightly, our faces barely four inches apart. "Nope. I'm not crazy."

"Then what do you think you’re doing?"

I smirked. "I dragged you onto the bed. What do you think I want to do?"

His pupils shrank, his disgust so obvious he did not even bother to hide it. "Yulia! I’m Yannick!" He practically snarled at me. "Do you even have some dignity left?!"

I did not feel like listening to his lecture, so I grabbed the closest soft thing off the nightstand and shoved it into his mouth. Ignoring the flames burning in his eyes, I met his glare with my own. "Shut up."

Yannick struggled against me, but it was useless. At that moment, my heart was slamming against my ribs like a drum.

"I’m gonna kiss you. Don’t interrupt me."

I yanked the thing out of his mouth and, before he could say a single word, crashed my lips against his. My fingers scrambled for his shirt, buttons popping off one by one and hitting the floor. I felt like a survivor running from the end of the world—desperate, frantic, and unwilling to stop.

My emotions were a mess, spilling over as Yannick let out low, breathless grunts beneath me.

I remembered what Quella Martinez once said—men only thought with their private parts when they were in bed. Sure enough, as I got more aggressive, he stopped yelling at me. All I heard were those small, muffled sounds.

When it was over, his face was flushed red like he had just been utterly humiliated. I didn't want to look at him, so I grabbed my clothes and headed for the bathroom.

"Yulia!"

I sighed and turned around. "What now?"

His eyes burned with fury. "If you’ve got the guts, then let me go."

I hesitated for half a second before smirking.

"I won't. Not just yet."

After I showered, I was going to head back to my room. But then I remembered something—Yannick Jordan had abs, and they were rock solid.

So, naturally, I turned right back around and went to the guest room. He was still awake, staring blankly at the ceiling like some poor frog about to get dissected in science class. The second he saw me, he gritted his teeth. "Let me go!"

I shook my head. "Nope."

"Do you have any shame at all? What are you even getting out of this? Did your mom never teach you how to act like a decent human being?"

Oof. That one stung. He did that on purpose.

I pressed my lips together and didn’t bother answering. Instead, I walked forward. Then, I kicked off my slippers, climbed onto the bed, covered his mouth.

His brows furrowed together, and he was about to start yelling again, so I reached out and clamped my hand over his mouth.

"Shut up and listen. I’ve known you for 11 years, and I’ve liked you for ten. I tried to let go, but I couldn’t. I know you don’t like me. But people say love is about taking action, right? So, that's what I did. I’m not letting you go, and no amount of struggling is gonna change that."

My eyes were burning, but I didn’t let the tears fall. I just leaned down and kissed him.

His lips were thin, cool, and had a faint taste of mint.

I was already exhausted, but even then, I could feel his body reacting. Lifting my head, I smirked. "Still pretending to be some cold, untouchable CEO? Please. You’re just like everyone else."

The noises he made that night had my entire face burning, but… I had zero regrets.

When I woke up the next morning, he was already awake. At least he did not look like he had just been tortured this time. Small victories counted too.

The moment I moved, his voice came out deep and hoarse. "Let me go."

"Nope."

He let out a sigh, then changed tactics. "Yulia, what do you want?" His voice was slow, deliberate. "How long do you plan on keeping me here?"

I held up my fingers. "Seven days."

He blinked, just staring at me.

"You do realize this is illegal, right?" He let out a breathless laugh, shaking his head. "Do you have any idea how many people are looking for me? If I suddenly disappear, do you honestly think you can keep me here for an entire week?"

I stood at the edge of the bed, my feet felt glued to the floor.

I figured I would just finish the drip and head out, but before I could, the doctor walked in. Just like that, he hit me with the classic three-question horror sequence."You’re here alone? Where’s your family? How many times has this happened?"My stomach dropped. "Doctor, don’t do this to me. Just tell me how long I have left."I waited for him to crack a smile, maybe even roll his eyes and say I was overthinking. However, his face was all serious, his tone edged with helplessness. "You should call your family."Family?Yeah, I didn't exactly have any family. My parents divorced when I was in middle school. Both were loaded, but neither was interested in keeping me. I always told myself I had the kind of freedom other kids would kill for.I had a crush on Yannick for years but never dared to say a word. I told myself unspoken love was the best kind—because it let me dream endlessly. But now? There was no more pretending this was some cosmic gift. I had not even started livin

Her next words hit me like a wrecking ball. "Since you’re dying anyway, why not do something good for your brother? Your kidneys still work now. Once you're dead, wouldn’t they go to waste? Who knows where the doctors will send your organs to? Why let some stranger benefit from them?"I hurled my phone across the ward, shattering it. Then, I laughed and cried. I completely broke apart.I had always thought I would go peacefully, slipping away in my sleep. But no—my dear mother just had to get in one last fatal blow before I left.My body gave up on me, and I could barely stay awake. I was stuck in bed, slipping in and out of consciousness. Everything hurt—every inch of me, from my hair to my toes.I started dreaming. Or at least, I think I did.I could hear Yannick's voice."Yulia, you have some nerve. You take what you want and leave me behind? Haven’t you slept enough? Open your damn eyes and look at me! Try a little harder, Yulia. I’ll take you overseas. There’s gotta be a way

James never brought up taking photos of me again.I never expected Yannick to show up, though. And, of course, he had his usual scowl."Yulia! Look at you. You're all capable now, huh?"Right on cue, James stepped in front of me. "Can’t you talk to a girl without sounding like a jerk?"Yannick stared him down for a long moment before suddenly smirking. "Wow, Yulia, you’ve upgraded. Is this guy your new type?"James did not hesitate and swung his fist. Yannick squared up as well, ready to fight back. And I—of course—stepped in between them. This was not James’ problem. I was not about to let someone take a punch because of me.Yannick pulled his fist back, but his eyes burned red. I looked away as I could not meet his gaze. "Just go. Don’t mess up my life anymore," I said.I slipped my arm through James’ and forced a smile. "I like artists better."With that, Yannick really left. And James… Well, he seemed to get it."You really shouldn’t have done that. If he ever finds out

"I know you act all tough, but deep down, you're fragile. But I want to be good to you. I want to take care of you. So, I have to keep making up excuses—ones you can't say no to."I squinted at him. "What are you rambling about now? When your mom joked about marrying me, you got so mad that you stormed off and didn't come home for days. Did you think I’d forget that?"Yannick hesitated, his lips curling into a faint, bitter smile. "I wasn’t mad about that. I was mad because I was afraid you’d never come back to my house again. And honestly? That’s not how I wanted you to hear it."His gaze flickered, full of hesitation. It made him look like a lost puppy."And besides, I heard from Quella that you’ve had a crush on someone for ages. I was jealous. Furious, even. I thought you were blind to not see what was right in front of you. But it never even crossed my mind that she was talking about me."When you dragged me to your place, I thought you were just heartbroken and using me as a

Mom saw me smash the cup and immediately pulled her son into her arms, shielding him like a mother hen."I'm only asking for a kidney! How can you be so heartless? Don't forget, I'm your mother! I gave birth to you! Helping your brother is the least you could do! If I had known you'd be this cold, I never would have had you!"The boy in her arms wriggled free, his glare burning into me. "Mom! I don’t want anything from this piece of trash! You said I was your only child!"I let out a dry laugh, clapping my hands slowly. "Wow. Bravo. Great performance."Mom froze. At that moment, Yannick stood up.She scowled. "Yulia! How can you mess around when this involves a kid? You're giving your kidney whether you like it or not!"Yannick stepped in front of me. "I’d like to see anyone try."I took a deep breath and patted his back. "Let me deal with this."I stepped forward and, for the first time in over a decade, I looked my mother straight in the eye. "You want my kidney? Then come

  • My Last Wish   Chapter 7

Mom and Dad quickly built new families of their own. Before I turned 18, they would deposit my living expenses into my account every month. They were never late and always sent quite a generous amount. But two months after my 18th birthday, the money stopped coming. It had been more than ten years now, and I had not received a single call from either of them.I did not even know where they lived. I did not know if they were still in this city.Yet here Mom was right now, calling me affectionately, "Yulia, do you have time to grab a meal together?"I thought maybe this was God showing me mercy, making sure I would not leave this world too lonely. I went to the restaurant she mentioned. In the private dining room, she was seated at the table, and beside her sat a young boy. He looked about ten years old. When she saw me enter, she waved enthusiastically. "Yulia, come over and let me have a look at you. This is your younger brother, Zachary Quinn.""Zachary, greet your sister."I l
