Chapter 2

Kevin was standing infront of his boss office door.

'here goes nothing' thought Kevin.

He raised his hand and knocked the door twice and waited for any response from his big boss.

After a few seconds came a deep voice "come in" which was both dominating and authorative. 

If it was any other time Kevin would have admired his big boss's voice and would have taken pride as his most loyal man. but now the situation does not seem to work in his favor.

So his big boss's voice send quite a chill pass his spine. 

Because once he opened his mouth about the purpose of his visit, he was hell sure that the big boss is going to burst the fuse on him.

So he pitied himself.

'poor me!!! I have to face the wrath of the big boss due to the mistakes done by the stupid old and lazy men. if I got thrashed badly now, I'm not going to leave those good for nothing Stupids easily...they won't get out of it Scot free' thought Kevin. 

Summoning all his courage, he pushed the door open and entered the big boss's room and quietly waited for Chris to finish his current work.

Chris raised his head and saw who came to his office early in the peak of hours.

When he saw that it was Kevin, he motioned for him to speak his business and continued to review the file he was currently working on.

Kevin gulped and began to speak quite nervously.

"Sir, you have to review this file urgently".

" what file?" questioned Chris without raising his head.

" these are the financial report of the Lorenz group ".

Suddenly Chris stopped all his actions and took few seconds to digest the sudden news given to him by his assistant.

Kevin was watching Chris's face without blinking to capture every emotion of his boss.

Chris frowned and raised his head and fixed his sharp gaze on his poor assistant who seems to taken a sudden interest in his shoes and admiring it with full concentration.

"Are you talking about the Lorenz group which we bought two weeks back?” enquired Chris irritated.

He looked annoyingly at the man infront of him.

"yes sir". came a timid answer.

“Wow! How fancy. The file which should had been here last week is infront of me now. How efficient . is that right Kevin”.

Chris fixed his hard glare on his poor assistant and waited for a reply.

But when he received none, he began fuming in anger.

Kevin saw the situation and thought ‘ If I didn’t do something now, things would escalate too quickly. So think man. Think!!!!!!’.

“ sorry sir for the late response. I will definitely rectify it and keep an eye on the things so it wont happen in future".

Chris pressed the bridge of his nose and tried to calm down. Then he glared at his assistant one last time and warned him.

“ this might be the last time hopefully. If the files are not in my table on time, then tell all those department heads that they can say good bye to their happy life in my company. I don’t accept tardiness in my company. Is that clear?”. 

“yes sir. Thank you sir”. Kevin released the breath that he didn’t even know he held till now.

“Now get lost, don’t disturb me.”

When Kevin was about to leave, he was called again.

”tell me about my remaining appointments for the day".

Kevin started telling Chris schedules for the day.

“You have two meetings, one with the foreign investors and other with our executives. One that starts after 30 minutes from now and another at 2.00 in the afternoon.”

“also sir the magazine companies are asking for your appointment. What should I do about that”.

Chris thought for second. “don’t give appointments to the press. Prepare for the upcoming meeting”.

“Yes sir. Do you need anything else ?” “nothing you can go".

After half an hour, Chris cleared his table and exited his office to attend meeting.

He went straight to the conference room. When the executives saw their big boss, everyone greeted him.

Everybody in the meeting hall can sensed that their boss's mood was not good and everyone began to panic.

Sensing the gloomy atmosphere, Chris forced a smile and motioned for the meeting to start.

As usual the meeting was lengthy which ,made him to skip his breakfast. For Chris, business comes first. So he didn’t bother to get his lunch and headed to the second meeting.

When he finished everything and decided to head home, it was already late.

Sighing tiredly he went to his personal parking lot and drove his blue Austin martin car home.

His home was located in the city outer, near a suburban area since his mom loved less noisy area and peaceful environment. 

He came home late at midnight. When he reached the main gate, a big white mansion greeted him majestically.

He brought this villa 4 years back from his hard earnings. Its from his first savings. So this house means a lot to him and he held this house dearly, since he presented this to his mom on her birthday.

When he entered the villa, he was greeted by the familiar smell of his mom's cooking.

He quickly changed his shoes and went straight to the kitchen. Inside he was greeted by his mom moving inside the kitchen. 

“Mom!!! How many times do I have to tell you that don’t wait for me and sleep early".

Diana, Chris’s mom, turned and smiled at her frowning son.

“welcome home honey”.

‘He doesn’t grow up. He is always frowning, when things didn’t happened as he want’ thought Diana. 

Moving around the kitchen island, she placed the food that she heated just now on the dining table and faced her son who is murmuring and complaining silently.

“stop frowning honey or else you would get frown lines so soon. And stop complaining “.

Diana placed her hands on her hips and raised an eyebrow at her son.

“and how many times I have told you to come home on time”.

Realizing that his mom is pulling her “mom card", Chris sighed defeatedly.

“sorry mom. I didn’t see the time. When I finished my work, it was already late".

 

“stop over working yourself honey. We have enough wealth. We don't need more. Take care of you health honey"

“ok mom. I'm sorry for coming late. But you have to understand na. Its business. It tends to take more time. And also I'm a big man” said Chris wiggling his eyebrows naughtily at his mom. 

Diana folded her arms across her chest and looked at her son disapprovingly. Suddenly she smiled slyly.

Seeing his mom's sly smile , he understood that something evil was cooking in her mind.

He knows that when his mom wore that smile , then its means DANGER…Chris cursed himself silently and faced Diana. 

When Diana saw her son's defeated look, she smiled charmingly.

“Chris honey, since you realised that you are a big man, then when are you going to bring a daughter-in-law for me".

Happy with her question, she waited Chris to answer her. 

................
