Amelia stood by the window of her room upstairs, the pregnancy test result clutched in her hand. She was pregnant again.
She had been noticing the signs for some time and had finally gone to the hospital for confirmation. The result came back positive. She smiled softly as she touched her stomach. She couldn’t wait to tell her husband. They were going to have another child. It had been six years since they had their first daughter, Eva, and Amelia hadn’t conceived again until now. She knew Aiden would be thrilled. She wanted to share the news in a special way. Her husband, Aiden Miller, the alpha of the Red Moon Pack, one of the largest packs in the northern region, would be overjoyed. But the vast territory came with dangerous borders, infested by rogues ready to tear apart anyone who wandered too close. Amelia stepped away from the window and called the maids to help decorate her room. She smiled in satisfaction once they were done. Next, she went to the kitchen to prepare Aiden’s favorite meal — which also happened to be Eva’s favorite. Her daughter was so much like her husband. She smiled again. “Luna, you don’t have to cook. I’ll prepare whatever you want,” said Elena, the cook. Amelia turned to her and smiled. “I’ll cook for us tonight, Elena. Take the day off and get some rest.” “Thank you, Luna. The Alpha will be so happy when he finds out you made his favorite dish. He doesn’t usually eat much, but when it’s your food, he can’t get enough of it,” Elena said. Amelia blushed. Elena was right. Aiden loved her cooking. He always had. After finishing the meal, she returned to her room. Just then, the door opened and her daughter walked in with her nanny, Octavia. “Mommy!” the little girl cried, running into her arms. “Oh, my Eva,” Amelia smiled, kissing her cheeks and stroking her hair. “Hello, Luna,” Octavia greeted. Amelia sighed gently as she set Eva down. “Octavia, I’ve told you several times — stop calling me Luna. Just call me by my name.” “I’ll try to,” Octavia said, noticing how especially happy Amelia seemed today. “I’ll help Eva change her clothes,” she added before exiting the room. Amelia headed into the bathroom, took a bath, and changed into something elegant. Then she waited in her bedroom for her husband. But as she opened her eyes again, she groaned softly. she had dozed off on the couch. She checked her phone. It was 12:30 a.m. Aiden had never come home this late before. With the trouble along the pack’s perimeter and the demands of running the company, Aiden often worked late, but he usually made it home early enough to spend time with Eva. Even if he had to continue working from home afterward. The ticking clock sounded deafening. She was worried. She tried calling him but no answer. His number wasn’t going through. She called his office. He hadn’t shown up there all day. Where had he gone? She was deeply worried. Then she heard the sound of a car pulling into the pack house. Relief swept through her as the door opened and the familiar scent of her mate filled the room. Her heart skipped a beat. She rushed over to him, excitement bubbling at the thought of finally telling him the good news. He still looked as handsome as ever in the dim light. “Why are you still awake at this time?” he asked coldly, pulling away from her embrace and setting down his suitcase. He must be tired from work, she thought, still smiling brightly. “I was worried about you. You look tired,” she said gently, helping him out of his jacket and loosening his tie. “Amelia, we need to talk,” Aiden said, pausing when he noticed how decorated the room was. Was there an occasion he didn’t know about? He didn’t ask. He had something more pressing to say. “Sure. I’ll prepare you a hot bath, and then we can talk. I also have something to tell you,” she said, heading for the bathroom. “There’s no need for that. I want to talk now,” he interrupted. She paused. Something was off. His expression was unreadable, guarded, and cold. As his mate, she couldn’t even sense his thoughts clearly. Was it about the rogue attack a few days ago? She thought that matter had been resolved. “What’s wrong, Aiden? Was the pack attacked again?” she asked, concern lacing her voice. “No, it’s not that…” “Then what is it?” she pressed. He stared at her for a long moment before handing her a file. She opened it. DIVORCE AGREEMENT. Her heart sank. “Aiden…” she whispered. “But why?” He looked her straight in the eyes. “Sofia is back.” “Sofia? Your ex? What does she have to do with this?” she asked, confused. “The night we found out we were mates, you seduced me into sleeping with you. Sofia left when she found out you were pregnant. She was my first love, and I want to go back to her.” “Aiden… but I’m your mate. Chosen by the Moon Goddess—” “Damn the goddess. Damn you being my mate. My father never married his mate, and he still raised a powerful alpha like me. I want a divorce, Amelia. And that’s final.” His words hit her like a storm. Amelia had fallen for Aiden in college, even though he had a girlfriend, Sofia. But when they discovered they were destined mates, they got married immediately. “D…Divorce?” she asked, though the file in her hand already confirmed it. Her hands trembled. “Yes, Amelia. This marriage was a mistake,” he said, his voice ice-cold. She stared at him, stunned. “I’ve done nothing but love you. I wake early to prepare your food, I carry out my duties as Luna. What have I done wrong?” Her voice cracked. Her teeth clattered together as her tears broke free. “What did I do? Where did I go wrong?” she whispered, sinking to the floor in tears. She had left everything behind for Aiden, her family, her pride, her home and this was how he repaid her. “What about Eva?” she asked through tears. “Eva is still my daughter. She’ll stay here with me. You’ll leave. Everything is detailed in the agreement,” he said. He walked out, leaving her there alone, shattered. No… this is a dream, she whispered, trembling. A knock came at the door. She tried to respond but no words came out. “Luna, Eva is asking for you. She can’t sleep… I think she has a high fever,” Octavia’s voice called. Amelia stood up quickly, wiped her tears, and rushed to her daughter’s room. Eva lay on the bed, her eyes wide and body burning. “Eva, honey,” she called. “Mommy,” Eva whispered as Amelia sat beside her. Tears spilled again as she stroked her daughter’s burning forehead. They had been a happy family of three, soon to be four and now Aiden wanted a divorce? How pathetic. “You’re burning up,” she said in a panic, rushing into the bathroom for a wet towel and placing it on Eva’s forehead. “Octavia, go call Aiden. We need to take Eva to the hospital,” she ordered. But Octavia returned moments later. “Alpha Aiden is nowhere to be found. He’s left the house.” TBcyMeanwhile, at the Miller’s mansion, Aiden was pulled out of a deep sleep by the echo of a powerful howl that shook the silence of the night. His eyes snapped open, his heart pounding against his ribs. He sat upright, blinking in confusion, trying to grasp where the sound had come from, and who could have made it.It wasn’t just any howl. It carried an energy…a dominance…that made his wolf stir restlessly beneath his skin. It felt… familiar. Too familiar. Before he could process it, his phone buzzed on the nightstand. He grabbed it, and the caller ID flashed James.“James…” he muttered and answered at once.“Aiden, Amelia’s mother is dead.. Evelyn is gone,” James said quickly, dropping the words like a stone.Aiden froze. His lips parted, and for a moment, the air refused to move through his lungs.“What?” he rasped. “How?!”He remembered how she had been unconscious when he rescued them but believed the treatments would work… He believed Amelia had everything under control. How could
The moment Cassia walked out of the ward, the world seemed to fall utterly silent. All she could hear was the frantic beating of her own heart…loud, uneven, and threatening to tear through her chest.Tears welled in her eyes as she staggered down the hallway toward her office. Every step felt heavier than the last, her limbs trembling under the weight of grief. When she reached the door, she pushed it open with shaky hands, stepped inside, and let it close behind her. Then she slid down against it until she was sitting on the floor, her back pressed to the wood.“She died from an overdose of the cure,” she whispered, her voice cracking. “I killed my mother. I killed her…”The words tore out of her like broken glass. Over and over, she repeated them, each one cutting deeper than the last until the dam broke. Hot tears streamed down her cheeks as her body began to tremble violently.“I killed my mother!” she whispered again, her voice raw, echoing through the small room. “I killed her!”
By the time Gloria returned with the doctor and nurses, Evenly had stopped breathing. Blood soaked through her pillow, streaking across her pale skin like cruel red vines.“Sir, ma’am, please—you need to leave the room,” one of the nurses said softly, her voice trembling as she reached for Beta Greg’s shoulder. But he slapped her hand away with a growl that made her flinch. His voice cracked through the air, raw and feral.“That’s my wife over there! I’m not leaving!”The nurse froze, her hands trembling as she backed away, fear flashing in her eyes. The air in the room thickened with grief and panic.Greg’s chest heaved as he turned toward the doctor, who was already checking Evenly’s pulse. His heart pounded violently in his ears as his lips moved soundlessly in prayer—pleading to the Moon Goddess to let it be a mistake. He raked his hands through his hair, pulling hard, his breath ragged with frustration, pain, and helpless rage. The doctor bent closer, pressing the stethoscope aga
It was almost evening. The sky outside the hospital window had softened into shades of gold and lavender, and Amelia sat beside her mother, spoon in hand, gently feeding her. Evenly looked frail…her once-vibrant glow now dimmed…but her eyes shimmered with quiet warmth as they lingered on her daughter. She still couldn’t believe Amelia had survived. Every breath she watched her take felt like a miracle. The Moon Goddess had heard her prayers…her baby girl was alive.“What happened after you left, Amelia?” Evenly’s voice came out low and tired, the kind that trembled with both curiosity and fear.Amelia hesitated, her gaze dropping to the spoon before meeting her mother’s again. “I was attacked, Mom. By some men Sofia sent after me. But someone saved my life. The Moon Goddess gave me a second chance.”Evenly’s brows furrowed, disbelief flickering in her tired eyes. “Sofia sent goons after you?” Her voice was soft, but there was no real surprise in it…only sorrow. Deep down, she had alwa
Cassia hurried out of her office, clutching the last vial in her trembling hand. Her heartbeat thundered as she made her way down the hallway toward her mother’s ward, her steps quick, her mind racing. Just as she turned the corner, she saw Damien approaching.“I’ve got the last vial left,” she said breathlessly, holding it up between them. “I’m going to give it to her now.”Damien’s gaze softened as it landed on the vial, then on her face. He nodded once, a quiet steadiness in his eyes. “I found a bigger apartment for us—a place where your family can stay too. I’ll start moving our things and get everything they’ll need so they can finally rest tonight.”Cassia blinked, warmth cutting through the anxious pounding of her heart. “Thank you. That would be… great.”He smiled faintly. “Yeah. I’ll be back once I’m done.” He leaned forward and brushed a brief kiss against her cheek before walking past her down the corridor. As soon as he disappeared around the corner, Cassia turned back, he
As Cassia walked down the hallway, her eyes caught sight of what she never thought she’d see again—patients once pale and lifeless were now awake, walking, laughing softly with their families. The dull, heavy scent of sickness that had hung in the ward for weeks was replaced with the faint aroma of disinfectant and hope.“I didn’t think the cure would work this fast…” Cassia murmured under her breath, her voice trembling with disbelief.“Well, it did. You did it,” Damien said beside her, his tone a blend of awe and pride. “You cured them, Cassia.”She looked up at him briefly, warmth flickering in her chest, before a familiar voice broke through.“Doctor Cassia!” Nurse Mira came rushing toward them, clutching a clipboard, her expression both relieved and worried. “All the patients given the cure are responding positively, but we’ve run out of doses. There are still more waiting. We’ll need more vials.”Cassia frowned slightly. “There should be a few left in the lab. If not, the others
