Chapter 49

At ten o'clock at night, the whole base fell into silence and cold; only the steady footsteps of soldiers echoed in the dark night. Everything was calm outside, but everyone, even me, was tense and extremely heavy inside.

I've noticed two soldiers patrolling the corridor in front of my room every ten minutes. Perhaps those two were assigned to patrol the first and second floors, so they kept repeating their patrol route.

I carefully calculated, and after the sound of footsteps leaving, I secretly opened the door to my room. The hallway was still as dark as when I first sneaked out of the room at night.

I've been here almost a month and am used to this corridor. I left this corridor without a hitch.

I certainly couldn't leave the main building by the front door in the lobby because I knew soldiers would be there. But I know that on the first floor, there is a room with a window leading to the garden behind the main building. I also don't understand why that room has a window, but I fee
