Mateo’s POV

“Emilia, please open your eyes and talk to me, please!” I begged, holding her tightly.

She wasn’t saying a word, she was unmoved, and her heart had stopped beating too. I couldn’t hear it anymore; it was like she was dead…like she had given up.

“No…no…no!”

“Did we just lose our mate?” Clive said in pain as more tears left my eyes.

“Ma…”

“Don’t you fucking call my name, if you can’t help me, then fuck off!” I yelled at whoever was calling my name, and it was Lilian.

She stared at me in shock before stepping backwards a bit.

“I have never been to this pack infirmary, and I don’t know the way, but I can take you both to the pack house!” She said and I immediately stood up scooping Emilia into my arms.

She glanced at me before looking away as her hands fell on my shoulders. Her eyes were shot closed, and the ground moved beneath my legs, and the environment changed.

We were already in the packhouse.

“What happened to my mate?” James rushed forward, releasing a punch on my face.

I wanted to return it, but I thought about Emilia, so I kept my cool.

“Where’s the infirmary? We need to take her there…” I said hurriedly.

“Hand her over, I will take her there myself.” James stretched his hands forward, trying to take her away from me, but I held onto her tightly, not giving in.

“I said hand her over!” He frowned.

“And I said, ‘No, I will take her there!’” Why should I hand him over to him? I won’t.

“You…”

“Will you both quit arguing? Emilia here is in danger, and you two are busy fighting while she dies,” Lilian interrupted angrily.

I glanced at James, then I let out a sigh. He’s her mate, and he has already marked her, so he has more rights over her.

As far as she’s going to be safe and fine, then there’s not much to worry about. I quickly handed her over to him and watched him run along.

“Why are you still standing here?” Lilian asked while running after them. I wiped my face before heading out too.

We got to the pack infirmary, and before I could follow them into the ward, they shut the door on me as James was inside with the pack doctor.

“Here, wear this!” Lilian handed some neat clothes to me, and I accepted them, putting them on.

I paced around the hall feeling restless. I don’t want anything bad to happen to her. I just hope she’s safe and fine.

She needs to fight for her life, I can’t just lose her so easily.

The door pushed open as James walked out with bloodstains all over his clothes, which belong to Emilia.

“How’s she? I hope she’s going to be okay.” I asked curiously, and he gave me a filthy expression.

Now I see why Kaiser doesn’t like him this much.

“You still have a lot of questions to answer, like what the hell happened to her?” He roared and his sudden action took me aback for a minute.

Who the hell is he to shout at me? How dare he? Even Kaiser can’t raise his voice this much at me not to talk of him.

“I’m talking to you.” He pushed further.

“You can’t tell me that you aren’t aware of the imposters present in your pack, right?” I questioned.

“Imposters? I’m not even talking about that issue. All I want is for you to stay crystal clear away from my mate!” He warned defiantly.

“Your mate? Are you aware that she’s my mate too, and I also have legal rights over her too?” I asked.

I never wanted to tell him, but he’s daring me. He’s behaving like one who has great superiority over her.

“What kind of a silly joke is that?” The seriousness in his voice shows he wasn’t buying what I was saying.

He doesn’t believe me, but that’s fine…I don’t want him to believe me because I don’t give a fuck about him.

“Joking with Emilia, are you for real? She’s my mate, and I’m hers too. I’m just looking for a way to get rid of you.” I scoffed as his eyes flashed with deep anger.

He gripped my shirt angrily, and I did the same to him too. He isn’t the only one who’s angry, and if he has that thinking that he’s stronger than me, then he must be fucking himself out.

“Mateo, Beta, what are you both doing?” Lilian stood in front of us with her eyes blazing dangerously.

Everyone is so angry and furious.

“Aren’t you both ashamed of yourselves? Your mate is in there battling for her life, and you both are fighting. Come on, grow up” She sounded so disappointed as she sat on the waiting chair.

I let go of her shirt and stared at his hands still holding onto my shirt. He wasn’t letting go…is this guy that stupid?

“Yo man, let’s behave our mate is in there. Let's behave!” I said, slapping his hands off my collar shirt.

“Emilia is in there because of you and…

“Yes, I accept that it’s all my fault, I couldn’t protect her, and I failed to do so, but listen, I owe it all to her and not to you. Even her baby, I’m sorry about that!” I fixed my shirt and heard him cursing me under his breath.

“You know. I’m not being evil at the moment, but I don't know why I’m glad that your seed isn’t in her anymore. She should carry mine first and not your fucking seeds that…”

*PUNCH*

I staggered a bit as his fists landed in my face for the second time. I bit my lips and wanted to retaliate when I heard my name.

“Mateo, let's behave, please!” It was Lady Madonna talking, and I immediately kept my cool.

“Lady Madonna!” I called out forcing a smile.

“How’s she feeling? Does she need any support at the moment?” I asked, and Lilian nodded her head in denial.

“They don’t need our support,” she replied.

“Hmm…”

“Beta James, what’s going on?” A woman probably in her mid-40s said while walking towards us.

With the hair, the face, and the body, I immediately concluded that it’s the twins mother… Emery and Emilia.

And she was the same person the imposter used as a way to harm Emilia.

Mateo glanced at me, and I think we both concluded who she was already.

“Where’s Emil? How is she doing?” She questioned staring at our faces.

“Take me to her, please!” She urged crying badly.

“The doctors don't need anyone at the moment,” James replied.

“Laura?” I heard the lady Madonna called, and Emilia’s mom immediately glanced at her.

So she’s Laura.

“Madonna, what are you doing here?“ Emilia’s mother questioned, looking surprised.

So these two know each other, huh?

But something wasn’t right somewhere.
