Chapter 2

Author: Crystal K
Looking at Alistair's incredibly fake face, I forced down the nausea churning in my stomach.

I had to stop this farce. Now.

"Alistair," I stepped back, raising my voice slightly. "Since this is an eternal Blood Oath, we need the most ancient witness. Go to the castle's catacombs and fetch the vial of thousand-year holy blood."

The elders around us gasped.

Thousand-year holy blood. It was my clan's core treasure. Even the high princes of the Council rarely saw it.

Greed instantly lit up Alistair's eyes.

[Perfect! She's even bringing out the holy blood! The elders will finally see how obsessed Carys is with me. My spot in the Council is secured!]

"For you, my love, anything." Alistair bowed perfectly, kissing the back of my hand.

[Finally, a chance to be alone with him! I'll show him I'm a hundred times better than that bitch!]

Gene stepped forward eagerly.

"Lord Alistair, the catacombs are dark and slippery, and the vessel is heavy. As your subordinate, I should accompany you."

Alistair's smile deepened.

[Such an eager little whore. The catacombs are perfect. I can press her against the cold stone and take her again, right now.]

"Very well, Gene. Follow me," Alistair agreed easily.

Right then, Silas stepped out of the shadows. "I'll go too..."

Alistair's smile vanished. He glared coldly at Silas.

[Fucking thin-blood, trying to ruin my fun.]

"Stay here, Silas," Alistair cut him off arrogantly. "This is high-vampire business. You have no right to interfere."

I watched coldly as Alistair and Gene disappeared down the hall.

Then, I dissolved into a silent swarm of night-moths, blending into the shadows of the library.

Through the half-open library door, I saw Silas.

He was completely surrounded by three of Alistair's elite blood-guards.

The leader sneered, drawing a dagger coated in deadly holy water and pressing it hard against Silas's throat.

"Stay away from Gene," the guard hissed. "Fight back, and I'll nail you to a cross to watch tomorrow's sunrise!"

Silas didn't even blink.

[A piece of trash like you? I could turn you into paste with less than ten percent of my strength.]

Enraged by his indifference, the guard thrust the dagger forward!

But the next second, Silas vanished.

He turned into pure shadow, reappearing right behind the leader.

A sickening crunch echoed. Silas casually crushed the man's wrist with one hand.

Before the silver dagger even hit the floor, Silas moved again.

Two pinpoint-accurate strikes smashed into the hearts of the other two guards.

The terrifying pressure of a pureblood Progenitor exploded in the room.

In just an instant, all three elite guards were completely incapacitated.

I drifted back to the hall, a cold smirk on my lips.

Alistair, you hopeless idiot. You have no idea what kind of monster you just messed with.

It seemed I really did need a new ally.

Soon, Alistair walked out, carefully holding the luxurious crystal vial of holy blood. Gene trailed close behind.

Her breathing was still uneven, and angry red bite marks stained her neck.

She instinctively tugged at her collar to hide them. But when her eyes met mine, a flash of undeniable provocation and smugness crossed them.

Just then, a commotion broke out.

Everyone noticed the mess by the library doors.

Three blood-guards were groaning on the floor in agony, while Silas stood by coldly.

Alistair's face turned livid.

[Useless trash! Can't even handle a thin-blood. They're humiliating me!]

"What happened here?!" Alistair roared, putting on his big-boss act.

The guard with the crushed wrist came crawling to him and crying like a child. "Lord Alistair! The thin-blood attacked us first! He went crazy, like he's on werewolf venom!"

Gene snapped her head toward Silas, her face twisted in disgust.

"You savage, lowlife scum!" she screamed, pointing right at his nose. "You make me sick!"

[I was blind to ever settle for him! If he wasn't decent in bed, I wouldn't have looked twice. Now that I have Alistair, I need to ditch him immediately!]

"They drew silver daggers laced with holy water on me first," Silas said, his voice low and calm. "It was self-defense."

"Lies!" Alistair stepped forward, releasing his aura. "My guards are strictly trained elites. Why would they attack you for no reason?"

[This guy is a threat. I have to kill him tonight so he doesn't get in my way later.]

"Stop lying, Silas!" Gene shrieked. "Your violence and cheapness disgust me! We are totally done. Stop harassing me!"

Her screams echoed down the hall, firmly condemning him.

Faced with this absurd framing and betrayal, Silas stopped defending himself.

He lowered his eyes. His knuckles turned white.

[Good. I'll remember every face in this room tonight.]

In the shadows, a dangerous, murderous intent boiled wildly around him.

Leaning against the long table, I quietly sipped my blood wine.

I knew my moment had come. An alliance forged in darkness is the hardest one to break.

Six months passed.Since the night of the "Crimson Gala," Evernight City's power map was completely redrawn.I leaned back in the castle study, flipping through intelligence reports.Over the past six months, I used my telepathy to help Silas precisely root out every traitor in the Council. Now, Silas was the supreme ruler of the empire. And I was his sole ally."Lady Carys..."A sickening stench drifted in from the hallway.A few low-level ghouls carried a rotting, makeshift rattan chair, stopping fearfully at my door.Slumped in the chair was a puddle of mud.It was Alistair. He was covered in filth, his once-prized custom suit reduced to dirty rags. The worst part was his legs. The wounds he suffered that night on the altar hadn't been treated with high-grade blood. The holy water had completely corroded them down to the bone."Carys... please..." Alistair struggled to lift his head. "Just a little blood... just a drop... for old times' sake..."He tried to reach for my dress.I sta

This force carried a sickeningly cheap scent.I turned around.Gene stepped out of the shadows. She was covered in wine and cake stains, her expensive dress clinging to her in wrinkled ruins. Her once-flawless makeup was a mess of tears and rage, her eyes bloodshot. She had used her meager magic to lock the door."Is this what you wanted?!" Gene screamed hysterically. "Are you proud of yourself, watching me get treated like filth?!"She glared at me, jealousy and venom practically spilling from her eyes.[Why! Why does she get all the good things?! Silas is a Progenitor Prince, and he still chose her?! I'm going to ruin her face! I'll make her wish she was dead!]Gene let out a shrill screech and threw her hands up.A ball of murky, foul-smelling voodoo necromancy venom formed in her palm and launched straight at my face! She wanted to disfigure me.I sneered.Without even bothering to cast a spell, I simply raised my hand.Smack! My fingers closed around her wrist like a steel trap. Their painstakingly built status in the Council crumbled in an instant.I stared coldly at the two stray dogs crawling in the dirt, then turned and left without looking back.A few days later.I stood in my castle's potions lab, expertly brewing a cauldron of boiling dragon's blood. The crimson liquid bubbled, radiating thick magical energy.A black night-raven flew through the window and landed on my workstation. In its beak was a black-and-gold invitation.I wiped my hands and picked it up.It was an invitation to the "Crimson Gala."The most exclusive power-broker event for all North American vampire clans. As soon as I touched the wax seal, the dark gold card ignited in midair, and Silas's deep, sexy voice whispered in my ear: "The gala awaits its Queen. Gene stared at the smuggling ledger, her whole body shaking violently."This is a forgery!" she shrieked, pointing at me. "You faked this to frame me!"I sneered and took a step closer."A forgery? The voodoo stench on this parchment hasn't even faded." I swept a cold look over the low-level servants. "How about we invite the High Council's Heresy Inquisitor over? Let them see for themselves who's been making deals with New Orleans voodoo priests."The servants instantly backed away like she had the plague."I saw her sneaking out in the middle of the night!""She's gonna get us all killed and burned at the stake!"The servants' accusations stabbed at Gene like knives. Midnight. Moonlight spilled across the castle courtyard.A tall, lean silhouette leaned against a gargoyle statue. It was Silas. He had changed out of his cheap waiter uniform into a perfectly tailored black shirt. The powerful shadow bloodline pulsed around him. Even the air seemed twisted by his power, exuding a suffocating, lethal charm.Flipping a silver coin, he raised his dark eyes to look at me."A brilliant performance," his voice was a low rumble in the dark. "You are every bit the ally I hoped for, Carys."[Ruthless enough, and smart enough. Compared to that brainless pretty face Gene, this is a truly top-tier prize.]Hearing his thoughts, I chuckled."Ally? Silas, you're currently just a dumped 'thin-blood'."He shrugged carelessly and stepped closer. The dangerous aura of a pureblood Progenitor instantly wrapped around me."Do you want to completely uproot Alistair's power?" He stared into my eyes, his tone filled with naked ambition. "Pull out all his fangs and turn him in
