Chapter 2

Author: Nameless
“Bam!”

A fist slammed into my face.

“This has to be sabotage by one of our rivals! Beat him up!”

A massive fist came hurtling toward my temple.

The next second, a ringing phone interrupted him.

He answered the call and shot me a contemptuous glance.

“Looks like you got lucky! Mr. Lowe ordered us to return immediately.

“Otherwise, you’d be lucky to leave here with both legs!”

He gave my leg a vicious kick before ordering his men to withdraw.

I collapsed onto the ground, gasping for breath.

I stumbled and made my way back to the area near the venue.

The wedding had indeed been postponed.

I breathed a sigh of relief.

Dad had listened to me, hadn’t he?

As long as he waited another week, Suzy would never let him marry that vile woman!

I clenched my fists.

Even if I no longer existed in his life, I would make sure Dad spent the rest of his life with the person who truly loved him!

I watched Dad remove his wedding jacket and get into his luxury car. From my hiding place in the corner, I couldn’t help smiling.

After seeing him off, I turned around and quietly left.

Three days later, however, news came that the wedding was back on.

It turned out the wedding had been postponed because my maternal grandparents’ family thought being kidnapped on the wedding day was a bad omen!

I stood on the hill opposite the estate and watched the lights glowing in the windows.

I gritted my teeth.

As soon as dawn broke, Dad would be getting married…

Wedding bells began ringing outside. Inside the room, the groom stood fully dressed, a sudden thought bringing an excited smile to his face.

But the next second, someone appeared behind the curtains.

“Who’s there?”

He shouted.

When he saw me, his eyes widened.

“You? “What are you doing here?”

Before I could answer, he grabbed me by the wrist.

“The security here is tight. If you’re caught, you’ll get beaten badly. I’ll show you a way out—slip away quietly.”

“Mr. Lowe.”

He turned around.

“You’re so stupid.”

I had already dragged him away once.

Why else would I have come here?

Whether in the past or the future, my dad, Shane Lowe, had always put others before himself.

That was precisely why Mom was able to manipulate him so easily and break his heart again and again.

“Hey, don’t take this lightly. This place has a complicated layout. I don’t know how you managed to sneak in, but you might not be able to find your way out. I’ll take you.”

“You don’t have to worry about me.”

I pressed a handkerchief over his nose and mouth.

His eyes widened in surprise.

Then his body gradually went limp.

He collapsed.

While he was unconscious, I draped his arm over my neck.

“I lived here for eighteen years.”

In the warehouse closest to the harbor, Dad was tied to a chair, staring at me with wide eyes.

I stuffed a piece of bread into his mouth, then bent over with my hands braced on my knees.

Just as he had when I was a child, he looked down at me with the same gentle expression.

“Do you hate me?”

He stared at me without saying a word.

I smiled.

“It doesn’t matter. Soon, you won’t remember me anymore.”

No one would remember someone who had never existed.

Once Suzy took him away, I would cease to exist completely.

Since he would eventually forget me anyway, I might as well stop hiding the truth.

“Dad.”

He froze.

“I know you won’t believe me, but I’m your son.

“I know what your life will be like after you marry her. That’s why I can’t let you walk straight into a fire.”

I shook my head.

“I don’t care. I’m going to save them!”“Stop being ridiculous!”The King of Hell grabbed me tightly.“There’ll be no more buying and selling salvation. From now on, they can earn their redemption by helping the Ferryman guide the dead across the River Styx.”I stared at him in surprise. He sighed and rubbed her temples.“I never imagined you’d do absolutely anything to return to the day your father got married.“If I’d known how desperately you wanted it, I would have approved your request long ago.”I blinked.“You… You didn’t want me to go back?”“Go back? So, you could keep throwing your life away trying to save him? If your father never got married, you wouldn’t even have a soul.”“I know…”A helpless look crossed his face, but he patiently continued.“If I hadn’t forcibly preserved your soul, you would have already dissolved into nothingness.”“Thank you, but if I had the chance to do it all over again, I’d still make the same choice.”He fell silent. Then he swished her sleeve,

“No.”I smiled.“I went back to secure Dad’s happiness for the rest of his life. Why would I regret it?”In their first lifetime, Dad and Suzy arrived at the Bridge of Requiter together. They had both died peacefully of old age.Dad paused as they passed me.He turned and glanced at the stone beside the bridge.“What is it?” Suzy asked. He shook his head.“Nothing.”Fifty years later, a brother and sister arrived. They both turned around at the same time, their gazes falling on me.“Don’t you think that stone looks strange?”“You think so too?”“Yeah… It feels as if we’ve seen it before…”“Haha! You’re imagining things, sis. How could we possibly know a stone?”They disappeared into the distance amid laughter, drank the potion of forgetfulness, and set off toward their new lives. In their second lifetime, Dad and Suzy were childhood sweethearts once again. They grew up together, but this time, they never ended up together.Dad joined the police force and died heroically in the line of

Only then did I realize I hadn’t been the only one condemned to cross the River Styx and endure the endless torment of the underworld. Not long after I earned a place to return to the day Dad married, Dad had also been granted permission to return to that day.“I know why you came. But Eli, you were never the cause of Dad’s unhappiness.“Neither were you responsible for my failures. We were father and son before this, and we’ll still be father and son afterward.”I shook my head.“No… You can’t…”He cut me off.“Eli, if you’re gone, Dad has no reason to go on living.”As he spoke, he took a step backward.“No!”I reached out my hand.Dad might have been naive, but once he made up his mind, nothing could sway him.If I refused, he would throw himself over the railing.Nancy stared at us in astonishment.“What are you two talking about?”I ignored her.Instead, I slowly lowered my hand.“I… I understand…”I led my men backward.“I won’t interfere in your lives anymore. Dad, I’m glad I go

By the time I stumbled back to the wedding venue, the ceremony had already ended.“Did you hear? Mr. Lowe isn’t planning to stay here. He’s leaving the country with Miss York to start a new life overseas as soon as the wedding is over.”“What? Didn’t Miss York already establish her businesses here? Why is she suddenly leaving?”“There’s nothing she can do. Miss York has always obeyed her husband.”“Ah… If only I had a devoted wife like Miss York…”What?I grabbed a passerby.“Which way did they go?”By the time I reached the harbor in a frenzy, Dad had already boarded the ship.He reached out a hand and was about to pull Nancy aboard.“Dad!”I stumbled and fell to the ground.“Dad! You can’t leave with her!”Nancy shot me an irritated glance. The passersby also looked at me curiously.“Is this kid insane? He’s so young, yet he’s calling someone his own age ‘Dad’?”Shane turned around.I reached out to him.“Dad! No!”He let out a sigh. Then he turned away and pulled Nancy aboard. The s

“Dad! Dad!”I tried to go after him, but his men forcibly held me back. All I could do was watch him disappear into the distance, heading toward the abyss he was destined never to escape.“Dad! How dare you leave!”I snatched a knife from one of his men.Shane turned around. What he saw was me holding the blade against my throat.“Stop!”He cried out.I hadn’t been bluffing. The blade cut into my neck.He rushed over and tried to force it down, but he couldn’t overpower me.“I won’t leave! Is that what you want to hear? I won’t leave!”Only then did I stop.“Honey!”Nancy’s eyes reddened.Shane glanced back at her, then at the knife I was gripping tightly. He turned around and hugged Nancy. Then he sat down in the chair where I had tied him up earlier.“I’ll stay a little longer and try to talk some sense into him.”“But, honey…”“You wait outside.”At that moment, Mom was still a young, devoted wife who obeyed Dad’s every word. So, she could only glare at me, stomp her foot, and leave

“You didn’t have to worry about me hurting you.“Trust me. Suzy is the one who truly has your best interests at heart.”He hid the fear in his eyes and forced a smile.“Buddy, you don’t have to lie to me. Let me go, and I’ll help you escape. I swear I won’t let her find you. I’m telling the truth!”“I know.”I nodded. “But I can’t.”Dad would help me escape. That was simply the kind of kindhearted man he was.I patted him on the shoulder, stood up, and glanced at my watch.Half an hour remained. In half an hour, Suzy would arrive, and Dad would be taken away. The minute hand crept around the clock. Then the door flew open with a bang.My eyes lit up.“Suzy!”Slap!Nancy struck me hard across the face.“You bastard! What have I ever done to you? Why do you keep trying to steal the man I love?”I fell to the ground. My cheek instantly swelled.“Who sent you here?
