Chapter 4

Author: Shell Flower
She turned her attention back to me.

“You like throwing yourself at men, don’t you? When I’m done with you, I’ll find some homeless men and let them have their way with you.”

She yanked the belt from one of her men and lashed me with it again and again, pouring all her rage into every blow.

The immense pain wracking my body made me tremble uncontrollably.

I could not understand it. My parents and I had only come to Kingshaven to build a new life.

What had we done to deserve such cruelty?

Just as despair threatened to overwhelm me, Sienna’s phone rang.

She finally stopped. She glanced at the screen of her phone and transformed into a completely different person.

“Damian, are you getting impatient? Just give me a few more minutes. I’ll be there soon.”

As soon as I realized Damian was on the line, I desperately tried to call for help.

“Damian, it’s me, Ca...”

Before I could finish saying my name, someone clamped a hand over my mouth.

My cries came out muffled, but I knew it was my only chance to get help.

I bit down hard on the hand covering my mouth. The man cried out in pain and immediately let go.

Before I could shout again, Sienna ended the call with a smug smile.

“Did you really think I wouldn’t know what you were up to? Go ahead and scream. Let’s see who you think is coming to save you.”

One of her men glanced at his watch, then at the steadily growing crowd.

He lowered his voice and tried again.

“Boss, I think this has gone far enough. We shouldn’t keep Mr. Kane and the others waiting over some worthless woman. Besides, if this gets any more out of hand, it could get hard to contain. Maybe we should...”

Before he could finish, Sienna slapped him.

“If I want to teach some harlot a lesson, who are you to stop me? I could cripple her right here, and my brothers would still clean up the mess for me. They adore me. I can do whatever I want.”

Half-crazed with excitement, Sienna moved to my side and seized me by the back of the neck.

Her long nails dug into my skin as she forced me down. “Fine. Let my men slap you a hundred times, and we’ll call it even. But if I ever see any of you in Kingshaven again, I’ll beat you every time.”

She motioned to her men.

Two of them immediately stepped forward. One restrained my arms while the other grabbed my hair and forced my head up.

Sienna took a few steps back, folded her arms, and looked down at me.

“Start. Don’t let her go until you reach one hundred.”

One man held my head still while the other slapped me again and again. The rest jeered and counted aloud.

Some of the onlookers could no longer stand by and watch.

One after another, they began speaking up for me.

“This is a civilized city. How could she just attack someone like that?”

“Exactly. That family was just passing through, and she attacked them for no reason. Does the law mean nothing anymore?”

“Someone called the police. They should be here any minute.”

The crowd’s comments did not faze Sienna at all.

If anything, they only made her more brazen.

“So what if the cops come? My brothers have connections everywhere, both legal and otherwise. No one would dare touch me. I’m warning you, anyone else who speaks up is getting a beating too.”

Sienna turned her attention back to me.

A vicious smile spread across her face.

She lifted one foot and aimed a kick straight at my face.

I squeezed my eyes shut and braced for the agony of a shattered nose.

A commotion rippled through the crowd.

The kick never came.

“Cassie, I’m sorry I didn’t get here sooner...”

Damian paused and glanced at the other two. Both looked ready to jump in with ideas of their own.Only then did he smile and continue.“Here’s what I think. Let’s buy some land and build a bigger house with enough room for all six of us.“Then, we won’t have to fight over who gets to take care of Mom and Dad. With all of us looking after Cassie together, we can all rest easy.”Julian immediately raised his hand in support.“I love it. I’m away for work most of the year, but if Damian and Antonio are here looking after everyone, I won’t have to worry.”Antonio nodded as well.“Works for me. Julian is never around, so he hardly counts. Honestly, I was worried I’d never beat Damian to it, and he’d keep Mom, Dad, and Cassie all to himself.”Julian bristled at that.“I’ll come home whenever I can. A place with Mom, Dad, Cassie, Damian, and Antonio is the only place that will ever truly feel like home.”My parents knew there was no changing their minds, so they finally relaxed and

Thankfully, their injuries were mostly superficial. The cut on Dad’s scalp from the metal bottle was not serious. The scans showed no internal head trauma, though he would need plenty of rest to recover.Mom and Dad sat in the waiting area and watched the three boys they had raised take care of everything. They were proud, but also struck by how much had changed. “Look at you three. You’ve all made something of yourselves. Back in our little town, you barely had enough to eat and wore whatever clothes you could find, yet you always saved the best of everything for Cassie.“Ten years apart may have changed the way you look, but not the people you were.”Damian sat beside them and answered with quiet sincerity. “Mrs. Levi, you and Mr. Levi saved us. You took us in, gave us an education, and taught us right from wrong. None of us would be here without you.“No matter where life takes us, we’ll never forget where we came from.”After we had rested for a while, the doctor went ove

After reviewing all the footage provided by the witnesses, one of the officers turned to Sienna with a stern expression.“The evidence is clear. There is no point denying what happened. You and your accomplices are coming with us to the station for questioning.”Sienna panicked. She clutched Antonio’s sleeve as tears streamed down her face.“Antonio, please help me! I’ve learned my lesson now. I’ll never do it again! You’ve always protected me. Please, I don’t want to go to the station.”Antonio pried her fingers from his sleeve. His eyes held none of the indulgence he had once shown her. There was only coldness and disappointment.“We kept you close because we knew you were alone in the world and because you reminded us of Cassie. That was why we took you under our wing.“But you used our names to terrorize this city and prey on innocent people. Today, you brutally attacked the sister I cherish most and the foster parents I respect above everyone else.“How could you possibly

She had copied the way guys talked and carried themselves, putting on a bold, one-of-the-guys persona. She deliberately dug into my brothers’ past and used her quick wits to worm her way into their lives. As they never mentioned having a family, she convinced herself that their affection for her was something no one else had. Over time, she became increasingly spoiled, entitled, and cruel. She used their names to throw her weight around Kingshaven. After three years of that, she had long forgotten that she was just an ordinary person. She saw herself as royalty who everyone else was supposed to worship and wait on hand and foot.Julian snorted, then looked at me with concern in his eyes. When he turned to Sienna, his expression held nothing but disgust.“Why? Mr. and Mrs. Levi raised all three of us, and Cassie gave us the names we carry today. Without this family, none of us would be where we are now.”Looking at the three boys she had once known grown into successful men, Mo

The expected pain never came. Instead, I felt myself wrapped in a warm embrace.I stiffened and opened my eyes.A tall man had his arms around me, while another equally imposing man held Sienna by the shoulder and left her unable to move.A third man burst through the crowd and kicked away the thug who had been restraining my mother. They had arrived.I released a shaky breath.Surely my parents and I were safe now.“P-Please help Dad first.”Dad was still bleeding from the head, but Julian was already helping him to his feet.He turned to the people behind him and barked, “What are you standing around for?! Get him to the hospital now! Waste another second, and you’re all dead!”When Sienna saw how concerned all her brothers were about my parents and me, her eyes widened in disbelief. These were the same brothers who had always doted on her and indulged her every whim.Yet from the second they arrived, not one of them had even looked in her direction.Antonio still had he
