Linda waited near the security checkpoint. She didn't understand why Brandy was in such a hurry to leave, as if demons were nipping at her heels.

Half an hour later, she saw Brandy running towards her.

Brandy panted, struggling to catch her breath, "Aunt, the ticket!" She took the passport, ID, and plane ticket from Linda's hand.

"What's wrong? What happened?" Linda asked.

Unless you're blind, you can see something's wrong.

"My professor called me back to school. I don't know what it is, but it's urgent," Brandy had already prepared an excuse.

Given her age, if she hadn't taken a leave from school due to pregnancy, she would still be a student. It sounded reasonable, but Linda still didn't want her to leave. She clutched Brandy's hand and said, "Brandy, you barely showed your face at the banquet after arriving, then you've been staying with your friend. Now you're rushing back home. We've barely spoken. When will I see you again? Don't you miss me?"

Guilt gnawed at Brandy.

She'd wanted to spend time with Linda after so many years away, but then Jose appeared. His power in Elite City was terrifying. If she didn't leave now, when would she get another chance?

"Auntie, I...I'll come back to see you soon. I...I really have to go. Take care..." Brandy couldn't afford to waste any more time. She reluctantly let go of her aunt's hand and ran towards the security checkpoint.

"Brandy..." Linda called after her.

Watching her niece disappear into the security line, Linda was bewildered. Could a school matter truly be this urgent?

After security, Brandy waited for her flight.

Once on board, she waited for takeoff.

Her insides burned with anxiety.

Brandy's gaze drifted to the window, a wave of guilt washing over her as she thought of Linda.

This departure felt final. She doubted she'd ever return. But she had no choice. She couldn't stay within Jose's reach!

Brandy kept checking the time, the steady stream of boarding passengers only fueling her impatience.

The broadcast reminded passengers to buckle up and switch to airplane mode. Flight attendants politely requested the removal of wired earphones. Once everything was ready, the plane began to taxi down the runway. Brandy's heart slowly began to settle.

But then, as the plane rounded a bend, it stopped.

At first, she assumed it was a routine pause.

But the plane remained motionless.

"What's going on?" someone complained.

"No idea..."

"I'm on a tight schedule.."

Brandy's schedule was tighter than anyone's, but all she could do was grit her teeth and wait.

Suddenly, the first-class cabin door opened. An unprecedented event on any flight she'd taken.

Brandy looked out the window.

Five or six men in black suits, their faces grim, were climbing the boarding stairs. Her blood ran cold.

The bodyguards entered the plane and immediately spotted Brandy frozen in her seat.

They approached, "Miss Baker, please come with us."

Brandy's body trembled, pressed against the seat, her face pale and helpless as she looked at them. The other passengers, sensing the palpable tension, fell silent.

"Miss Baker, you wouldn't want us to make a scene," the bodyguard threatened.

Brandy wanted to escape, but how could she? Even the plane's departure was under their control. Jose's power was absolute.

Why... why were they here?

Why... wouldn't he let her go?

Why...

Brandy was escorted back to Silvercrest Bay by the bodyguards. Her legs gave out the moment she stepped onto the Regal Garden's steps, and she nearly fell.

Inside the hall, a dark, imposing figure sat on the sofa. Brandy's face paled, and she instinctively recoiled, only to collide with the solid wall of a bodyguard behind her.

"Lost, were you?" Jose's voice was a low, dangerous rumble.

Brandy bit her lip, fighting the tremor that ran through her body.

Of course, she wasn't lost. And she knew Jose wasn't fooled.

Jose unfolded his legs, stood, and walked towards her. His long strides were elegant, but he moved like a predator, ready to pounce. Every nerve in Brandy's body screamed. Her expression was one of pure terror.

"Seafood allergy. Hospital escape. Brandy, I underestimated your audacity," Jose said as he walked towards her.

His voice, though calm, was laced with a chilling menace.

Brandy trembled in fear as Jose's dark figure approached. She turned around and pushed the bodyguard behind her with all her might.

"Ah!" Before she could resist, a large hand clamped down on the back of her neck, causing her to cry out in pain. "N-no... it hurt..."

"Seems you still haven't learned your place!"

"Let me... let me go..." Brandy struggled to speak.

Jose's eyes were fierce as he dragged her by the neck into the elevator and up to the massive steam room on the top floor.

"Mmm..." Brandy tried to resist, but the hand was too strong, rendering her immobile.

The glass door in front of her slid open, and before she could react, she was shoved inside.

The door closed.

Trapped in the confined space, Brandy clawed at the smooth glass, her knuckles white. Her eyes, wide with terror and confusion, locked onto the terrifying figure outside.

"What... what is this? Why lock me here?"

"What do you think I'm going to do?"

Brandy looked at him in disbelief. "Wh-what? No, this isn't real, you're just trying to scare me, right? This isn't happening!"

Jose raised his hand and pressed a button on the electronic panel next to the glass door. The temperature inside began to rise.

Brandy could feel the heat rising on her skin. Realizing what was happening, she panicked and desperately pounded on the glass door.

"Let me out! Don't do this, I will die, please... I beg you!"

Jose continued to turn up the heat, ignoring Brandy's cries.

"No, please! Let me go!" Brandy cried, kicking at the glass door, but it didn't move.

This was too cruel!

How could he treat her like that?

Brandy looked at the cruel, heartless man outside the glass, her eyes filled with helplessness and fear. She cried and begged, "Let me out! It's so hot! Jose, please let me go... help me! Help me!"

But no matter how much she screamed, no one came to help her.

Was she going to die here today?

She didn't want to, she had children...

"Mmm..." Like being trapped in a furnace, Brandy felt the unbearable heat leeching the moisture from her body. Each breath was heavy, and she felt her body losing water, making her throat dry. She gasped for air, fear consuming her, tears streaming down her face.

  • My Pain, his gain   you actually enjoy this

The air in the private suite of the Elite City club was thick with the scent of expensive tobacco, the sharp tang of spilled vintage wine, and the heavy, metallic presence of fear. Jose Williams stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, his silhouette cutting a jagged, imposing figure against the shimmering, uncaring skyline of the city he essentially owned. He didn't look like a man who had just systematically stripped a woman of her last shred of dignity; he looked like a god who had just rearranged a piece of his universe and found the new alignment slightly more to his liking.Martin remained frozen on the plush Persian rug, his breath coming in ragged, shallow gasps as he clutched his aching stomach. The bodyguard’s blow had been surgical—designed to incapacitate without leaving a permanent mark that might embarrass the Williams family name. "You’re a monster, Jose," Martin managed to wheeze out, his voice cracking with a mixture of physical pain and moral revulsion. "You know that?

As Brandy answered, Jose's dark eyes bored into her, filled with a chilling, predatory rage. Her breathing became rapid, her face turned pale, and her inner nervousness and fear overwhelmed her body. She repeated to herself over and over again, *"I can't let Jose find out about the children! I can't let him know about Emily, Ella, Kenzo and Kelvin!"*"Hello, Brandy? Why did you hang up?" Aunt Charlotte's voice was laced with concern.Jose seemed dissatisfied with the unfamiliar woman's voice. He flicked his eyes toward Brandy, a silent command to speak."I... I'm fine. I was just about to go back. I called to tell you that I won't be returning right away... I'll transfer the money I owe you later..." Brandy struggled to speak through her trembling voice."You silly girl, the money doesn't matter. It's you not coming back that worries me. My health is failing every day," Aunt Charlotte replied.Brandy was slightly surprised by Aunt Charlotte's acting. She knew her aunt was trying to he

They had evening appointments, so they needed to work overtime. At six o'clock, Brandy was about to eat the bread she'd brought for dinner when her phone rang. She looked at the caller ID and answered, "I'm working late.""So I'm bringing you something to eat."Brandy walked into the reception room and saw Martin sitting inside waiting for her.She walked over and asked, "Didn't I say you didn't have to do this?""Can't I just do something nice for you once in a while?" Martin saw her standing there, seemingly frozen. He gently took her wrist and pulled her closer.Brandy tensed at the touch, awkwardly sitting down in the chair. She stared at the gourmet meal in front of her."Why are you being so nice to me?" Brandy asked.Martin's eyes were warm and gentle. "I want to be. If you're okay with it, that's all that matters. No pressure, just like back at the Johnson Family. If it makes you happy, call me brother."Brother... Brandy lowered her gaze. Calling Jose "brother" had unleashed

  • My Pain, his gain   The Illusion of Distance

The move from the Regal Garden to the small studio apartment felt less like a transition and more like a tactical retreat. Brandy packed her few belongings into a single suitcase, her hands moving with a frantic energy. She didn't want to give Jose a single second to change his mind. Every moment she spent under the roof of the Regal Garden felt like another layer of lead being added to her soul. When she finally turned the key in the lock of her new home, the silence that greeted her wasn't the heavy, suffocating silence of the mansion. It was empty, hollow, and hers. She spent her first evening sitting on the floor of the 50-square-meter space. The apartment was located in a gray stone building on the edge of the financial district, close enough to the clinic that she could walk to work in ten minutes. It was a far cry from the luxury of the Regal Garden—the walls were thin, and the window overlooked a narrow alleyway—but as she watched the sunset paint the brick walls outside in sh

  • My Pain, his gain   The Predator’s Permission

Brandy lowered her gaze, a faint, weary smile playing on her lips as she looked at the steam rising from her tea."Really?" she whispered, more to herself than to him."I heard... my brother also went to the Johnson family’s wedding anniversary banquet. He didn't do anything to you, did he?" Martin asked, his concern cutting through the ambient noise of the restaurant."No, I didn't stay long..." Brandy replied quickly, her voice dropping an octave. She didn't want to talk about anything related to Jose. To speak his name was to make him manifest in the room, and she had already spent enough of her life under his shadow. It was as if she were a frightened bird; merely mentioning him was enough to fill her with a paralyzing anxiety and a sense of suffocation. She could still feel the phantom weight of his gaze from the night before, a heavy pressure that seemed to linger on her skin like a stain."If he bothers you, tell me, I'll help you," Martin said, his voice firm and sincere.A wa

  • My Pain, his gain   The Gilded Leash

After Brandy finally recovered from the grueling fever that had kept her bedridden, she began to venture out of her room. The first few days were spent in a daze, her body still weak but her mind racing with the need for a plan. When she eventually went downstairs to the dining room for meals, she noticed a subtle change in the atmosphere. The expensive seafood platters that had been prominently displayed on the table—those reminders of Jose’s overwhelming wealth and control—had been removed. In their place were normal, simpler dishes that didn't feel like a silent interrogation. She tested the boundaries of her confinement with a trembling heart. One morning, she tried to walk toward the main gates of the Regal Garden, fully expecting a hand to drop on her shoulder or a voice to bark an order. To her shock, no one stopped her. The guards stood like statues, their eyes fixed forward, seemingly indifferent to her movement. It was as if the Regal Garden had no rules at all, allowing her
