Chapter 1

“You don’t have much time left. You should spend this time and say goodbye to your family,” the attending physician said in a gentle and sympathetic tone. My heart dropped after hearing his words.

I had already guessed the outcome, but when the final verdict came, I still could not stop my tears.

I was only twenty-eight years old. I had always tried my best to survive.

However, I had not expected my husband to take away the heart I had waited two years for.

He used that for Diane Bishop’s heart transplant, even though that fraud’s condition was not very serious.

I walked in a daze as I reached Diane’s ward. I saw my parents, my husband, Fred Anderson, and my son, Sammy Anderson, surrounding her in concern.

Fred was offering Diane a glass of water when he saw me walking in. He immediately put the glass down, walked over, and asked, “What did the doctor say?”

I looked at him, but he avoided my gaze out of guilt. He stammered as he said, “It was an emergency. If we hadn’t used the heart for Diane’s transplant, she would’ve died from pain.”

My mother said, “Fred’s right! Daphne, it’s life-or-death. You wouldn’t be mad at us for something like this, right?”

I was about to speak but changed my mind. I said indifferently, “I’m not mad. The doctor said that he’ll have good news for me in a week.”

After a slight pause, I continued, “Good news for all of us.”

Fred readjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, and his beautiful eyes sparkled in joy. “Did you find another suitable heart in such a short period? I knew it! My decision that day was right.”

My father also let out a sigh of relief. He laughed and said, “Diane is a lucky girl. If we didn’t give her the heart first, she wouldn’t have survived another week.”

My mother immediately nodded as she gently smoothed Diane’s hair. She said, “Diane is going to get luckier, unlike someone, who obviously could’ve waited for another heart but threw a tantrum and embarrassed us.”

Even though I was already disappointed by them, it still hurt to hear that.

I clutched the hem of my shirt to stop myself from crying.

Fred looked at me softly, but his words sent shivers down my spine. “You were too agitated the other day. I think you should apologize to Diane.”

I stared at him in disbelief.

Diane snatched my heart away from me, and they still wanted me to apologize to her?

My mother agreed. “That’s right. If you hadn’t mistreated Diane that day, she wouldn’t have had a heart attack.

“You should be thanking your lucky stars that she’s still fine. Otherwise, I would’ve disowned you.”

I recalled that day when Diane stood before me and arrogantly showed off the hickies that Fred had given her. She was telling me how much Fred had treasured and desired her…

I could not help myself and slapped her, but they saw me doing it.

Fred rushed forward angrily to push me aside.

I fell onto the floor, and my mother charged forward to hit me.

My father was standing nearby, looking distant and cold, as though he felt like I deserved to be punished.

However, when I had a heart attack, Diane also pressed her hand against her heart and said she felt extreme pain in her heart.

Everyone believed her but thought I was faking it.

When I thought about that, I smiled bitterly. I said faintly, “Sorry, it was my fault.”

No one had expected me to apologize.

Fred’s gaze turned inquisitive.

Diane also frowned. She stared at me as though wondering why I was faking it.

My parents were looking at me warily, as though they were worried I would suddenly cause trouble again.

Only my son, Sammy, threw himself into my arms happily. “Mommy, that’s great! You finally apologized!

“You shouldn’t mistreat Aunt Diane. Otherwise, I’ll dislike you like how Grandpa and Grandma do.”

I looked at him. I could bear the coldness, misunderstanding, and favoritism from my parents and husband, but hearing the child I carried for nine months favor Diane over me was something I could not accept.

However, I had no energy left in me to argue.

I caressed his face and smiled. “I’ll listen to you then.”

It was only then that my mother nodded in satisfaction. “That’s right. It seems like you’ve learned your lesson.”

Fred also let out a sigh of relief as he said, “My wife has truly matured.”

I felt disgusted when I saw him feigning his love for me.

Right at that moment, Diane suddenly yelped in pain. Fred immediately rushed over to her.

My son, who was hugging me a moment ago, also let go of me and ran over to her. He asked, “Aunt Diane, are you alright? I can take care of you.”

Tears welled up in my parents’ eyes.

I was standing nearby like a clown.

I could no longer stand it. I told them that I was tired and left the ward.

Sloan asked with teary eyes, “Where’s my daughter? I want to see her.”The staff said coldly, “Your daughter is in a deep sleep. According to our policy, no one can see her. “Otherwise, the cryonic experiment will stop, and by that time, there might not be a chance for her to wake up ever again.”Sloan immediately shook her head in fear. “No… don’t stop the experiment. I won’t see her. I won’t see her.” Fred had already heard a detailed explanation of this experiment from his assistant. He felt that this was an absurd concept. However, if it meant there was a very slim chance for Daphne to survive, he did not want to risk it. He asked with teary eyes, “What did my wife… leave me?”The staff then passed him a letter and said indifferently, “According to our policy, every donor can leave something behind for their family.“Ms. Daphne left a letter. You may take this.” Fred took the letter and immediately opened it. When he saw that the paper was blank, he was stunned. T

Diane snapped back to her senses. She stopped smiling and said frantically, “How would I be… I… I don’t believe that she’s dead! She must be faking it to scare us.” But she knew for a fact that Daphne was dead. Two nights ago, she had received information about a donor in the work group chat. It was Daphne. Initially, there was no photo, so she was a little unsure. When she thought of that, she started crying again. She put out her hand to show Fred her wrist. There was a minor cut there. She said with a pout, “Fred, it’s painful…”Fred had not yet spoken when Richard suddenly asked her coldly, “Your mother just fainted, and you don’t even care. You only care about your own minor injury. Do you even have a conscience?” At that moment, the assistant was trying to shake Sloan awake. However, she did not wake up again. Diane, whom she doted on so much, did not even ask about her condition. She was only trying to get Fred’s attention. She was still trying to smear Daph

At the same time, in the Anderson family home, Fred’s hand trembled around his phone. He kept replaying the video. In the video, Diane’s face, which was usually gentle and innocent, turned vicious. He never knew that she was a devil in disguise…Sloan and Richard were shocked, too. Both of them teared up. Sloan trembled and said, “Richard, we really misunderstood Daphne. Quick… go and find Daphne.“I want to tell her that I was wrong… I was wrong…”Richard sobbed and said, “I’ll give her doctor a call right now. Daphne must be with him.“She’s only mad at us. That’s why she lied to us that she’s dead. Right… That’s right.” Fred nodded. “That’s right, she sent me texts yesterday. She said that she was alright, and she told me not to worry about her… How could it be possible that she died three days ago?” Upon hearing that, Sloan was relieved. She asked agitatedly, “Is that true?”However, Richard and Fred’s expressions changed. They had suddenly thought of another possibi

Richard was a bit surprised. He asked, “Are you forgiving her already?”Sloan sighed and asked, “Richard, do you think we’re being too harsh on Daphne?“She’s learned her lesson now. In the future, let’s cherish her and teach her to be on the right path in life.”Richard nodded and said, “Then, I’ll listen to you.” Actually, he did not dislike Daphne that much. After all, Daphne looked a lot like him. Whenever he looked at her, it felt as if he was looking at his younger self.If she had acted better, he would not have let others treat her harshly to teach her a lesson. The couple discussed how they could help Daphne better. They did not know that Daphne was already in a cryonic sleep chamber. On the other hand, Fred frantically looked for Daphne as he entered the Bishop family mansion. He looked everywhere but could not find Daphne. He kept calling Daphne’s phone, but no one answered. He was gripped by the kind of fear he had never experienced before. Did something

Daphne’s mother, Sloan Bishop, had given all the staff some time off, thinking that it would teach Daphne a lesson. Fred knocked on the door. His voice sounded softer as he said, “Daphne, I know this period is hard on you.“I’ve given it some thought these past couple of days. I know you only hurt Diane because we didn’t show you enough care.“I’ll tell your parents to give you some space. “Sammy told me last night that he still loves you a lot.“He still wants you to be his mother, and he wants to listen to your bedtime stories.” He kept speaking until he felt parched. His patience had run out, but the door was still locked. He was a little angry. However, when his assistant spoke up, cold sweat broke out on his forehead. The assistant asked him in concern, “Mr. Fred, are you sure Ms. Daphne is inside?”Fred sounded like he was trying to convince himself as he said in a low voice, “She always listens to me. If I ask her to return, she’ll definitely return home.“Besides

When Fred returned to the mansion, Diane was asleep. He stayed by her side for the entire night till the sky brightened, and the heavy rain had subsided. Diane, who had gotten a good rest, finally opened her eyes. She then asked in surprise, “Fred, when did you come back?”Fred smiled and said, “I rushed back last night. After the family doctor did an examination, he said that too much excitement and activity had burdened your heart. He asked me not to wake you up. “So, I let you sleep. How do you feel now?” Diane smiled and said, “I’m feeling much better after sleeping.”She looked around and pretended to be concerned. “Where’s Daphne? Didn’t she come with you to visit me?”It was only then that Fred recalled he had abandoned Daphne in the middle of nowhere last night. When he thought about the heavy rain and the hail, he felt a bit regretful. However, he convinced himself that Daphne had always been very independent. She would have gotten a taxi, and he did not have to
