Ashina’s pov

“I’ve tried, Nathan,” I said quietly. “I’ve tried so hard to make this work, to make you happy. But it’s never enough. I’m never enough.

Nathan shook his head, his voice trembling. “I’ve always cared about you, Ashina. You know that. I’ve tried to make you feel wanted, to make you feel loved.”

“By lying to me?” I snapped. “By keeping Erica around, pretending like nothing happened? How many times have I asked you about her, Nathan? How many times have you looked me in the eyes and lied to my face?”

Nathan didn’t answer. He just stared at me, his eyes dark and unreadable. I felt a tear slip down my cheek, but I didn’t bother to wipe it away. “If you can’t stand to look at me, then don’t. Turn me away. Tell me to leave. At least then you can have Erica all to yourself.”

I checked my phone. Daniel had not responded to my texts nor returned my calls. Where was he? I needed someone on my side right now. I felt so surrounded.
