The Race

They were packed like sardines inside Lauren's car. Trisha was wedged in the corner with Logan on the outside and Nakuni across from her back in his human form. "How far away is this place?" she craned her neck to talk to Rachel. The other woman was glaring at her seat partner. 

"Less than an hour, it's off in the middle of a forest. Ryan, change seats with me. You don't need to be in the middle."

The vampire shook his head. "No, from here I can keep watch behind us."

"Is there really a need for that?" Logan questioned with a frown. "No one knows where we're going, and it's doubtful they've even found out their companion is dead."

His words were met with a shake of the head from Nakuni. "No, Ryan has a point. Just because it's doubtful doesn't mean there's a guarantee that it won't happen. I don't sense anyone right now, but it's true we could be tracked."

Rachel scowled. "Fine, you can stay there then. But you better do your job."
