Chapter 4

Author: Echo
The door was slightly ajar.

I stopped, listening through the crack as Cassian replied in a flat, even tone. "Relax. The wedding was a huge success. Everything went perfectly."

"Thank God! Man, thank you so much!" Julian let out a massive sigh of relief, even sounding a bit smug. "Chloe and the baby are safe. I owe you big time!"

A flicker of mockery flashed through Cassian’s eyes. He slowly spun his new wedding band on his finger. "No, Julian. I should be the one thanking you."

With that, he hung up effortlessly.

I could not help but chuckle and pushed the door open.

Cassian whipped around. The moment he saw it was me, the cold calculation in his eyes melted instantly, replaced by a flash of hidden panic.

"What is wrong?"

I had to admit, this wolf in sheep’s clothing was so scheming it was almost cute.

I could not wait to see Julian’s face when he found out the truth.

I smiled slightly. "Nothing, just need you to help me untie my dress."

His eyes lit up. "Gladly."

After the ceremony, Cassian pulled out a thick stack of documents like a magic trick.

"These are the marriage papers and the asset transfer agreements." He shoved a pen into my hand. "Sign them, Serafina."

My eyes widened. When did he prep all this?

"Why the rush? Right now?"

Cassian nodded silently, his jaw tight.

He looked like if I did not sign right this second, he would not be able to sleep tonight.

How did this guy look anything like a ruthless mafia Don right now?

I took the papers and quickly signed my name on every page.

It took less than twenty minutes.

The second I finished, Cassian immediately called his right-hand man, Leo.

"Input my wife’s biometrics into all family security systems immediately."

"From now on, the Don's wife has top-tier clearance to all Russo properties, vaults, and estates."

"Yes, Boss."

After sorting that out, Cassian turned back to me and pulled out his phone. "Let us take a picture together and post it to announce our marriage."

I frowned slightly. "Is that necessary? Is it not a bit too high-profile..."

Hearing my rejection, the light in Cassian’s eyes instantly dimmed.

He pressed his lips together, looking incredibly serious, but his dark eyes showed a clear, almost puppy-like grievance of being abandoned.

"Am I... really that shameful to be seen with?" he asked in a low, muffled voice, acting like he had suffered the world's biggest injustice. "Are you still thinking about him?"

I almost laughed out loud. The supreme Don of New York was throwing a pity party like a pro.

"Give me the phone." I sighed, compromising.

Cassian immediately leaned in, wrapped an arm around my shoulder, and pressed a soft, cherished kiss to my temple.

A shutter clicked.

The moment his lips touched my skin, I could clearly feel the wild, violent pounding of his heart against his chest.

I posted the photo on my socials with no caption.

Within minutes, the comment section blew up. New York’s underworld elite were reposting it like crazy, shocked by the sudden mega-alliance and calling us a match made in heaven.

Just then, a harsh ringtone shattered the peace in the room.

The caller ID flashed a name: Julian.

Cassian glanced at the screen, then took a half-step back, putting on a perfectly calm and generous front. "Do you need me to step out?"

I saw his tightly clenched fists and knew exactly what was up.

He wanted to smash the phone to pieces but was playing the mature guy for me.

"No need." I smirked, answered the call, and put it on speaker.

The second it connected, Julian’s furious, distorted roar blasted through:

"Serafina! What the hell is up with that photo?! Are you fucking crazy?!"

Moving like a hunting panther that just caught its prey, he carried me in long strides straight to the master bedroom, kicking the door shut behind him and locking it."You were not even drunk?!" I finally realized, giving him a knowing look."I was. But seeing you sobered me right up," Cassian chuckled low in his throat, his eyes flashing with cunning and pure excitement. He pinned me against the door, his large hand wrapping around my wrist and guiding my hand straight into his open shirt.Under my palm were his burning, hard abs. With every breath, the solid muscles flexed ben

For three whole days, I stayed at my own apartment and ignored Cassian entirely. But my phone was bombarded with his texts all day, every day. Every single word was a desperate, pathetic apology and plea for attention.Along with the messages came a relentless flood of gifts to my door. The latest high-end designer collections, priceless jewelry, and even deeds to prime Manhattan real estate.I accepted all of it, tossing the diamonds onto my vanity, but did not text him back a single punctuation mark.By the fourth day, things got out of hand. The notoriously cold-blooded, untouchable Don of the Russo family used his personal, verified social media account to post the most high-profile public declaration of love imaginable."All my power and wealth combined do not equal a single smile from my wife, Serafina. Darling, I was wrong. Please forgive me."The post blew up the entire elite circle. His ruthless tyrant image shattered into a million pieces.Reading those lines, I finally could

The next morning, sunlight slipped through the heavy curtains. While I was still half-asleep, a warm pressure landed on my lips. The kiss was incredibly light and careful, lingering for just a second before pulling away. Then, I heard soft footsteps and the click of the door.Cassian had gone to the gym to train.I opened my eyes and immediately saw a black velvet box on my pillow.Inside was a stunning necklace set with a rare black diamond. "You actually photoshopped a picture to humiliate me?!" Julian screamed hysterically. "Using Cassian for a cheap joke? You think this gets back at me?!"So he thought it was photoshopped.Being this stupid was practically a talent. Before I could say a word, Cassian reached out and gently tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear.He leaned closer to the mic, using a perfectly crafted tone of mild disappointment and gentle scolding:"Julian, do not yell at Serafina. Taking your anger out on a woman just shows you have no spine."Dead silence on the other end. Then Julian’s voice cracked in absolute shock. "Cassian?! Why... why are you with her?!"Cassian did not answer him. Instead, he looked down at me, his eyes clear and innocent, lowering his voice into a soft, coaxing whisper: "Serafina, do not waste your time with emotionally unstable men. He will just ruin your mood."I could not stop my smirk."You are right." Meeting Cassian’s eager gaze, I hung up the phone without hesitatio
