Chapter 5:

Alpha Derrick Brooks.

I was suddenly thrust into a very dark room and my Lycan sight couldn't help me here, because I couldn't see anything.

It made me freaking uneasy.

"Hello." I called out only to hear my voice echo through whatever this place was.

Then I heard muffled screams.

I moved towards it and saw her.

She was young and so damn pretty even through her snot and tears, obvious distress and pain. But her beauty was undeniable, she was the kind of beauty that would make a man, forget about his mate and mate bond, just to have a taste of her.

I moved closer and closer to her, trying to find the source of her distress, pain and tears, but then she suddenly disappeared and I was dragged out of the dream.

It felt like I was being pushed of a cliff.

I shot up straight in bed sweating, I looked outside my window and the mother of all ice storms had just began to rage.

What in the goddess's name is the meaning of this?

I asked myself.

It was almost impossible and inconceivable that any kind of rain or storm would present itself in my region at this time of the year.

I hissed loudly at the stinging pain, on the inside of my wrist, just below my left wrist.

The royal branding , evidence that I was chosen by the king, sizzled slightly.

Registering it's displeasure at something in my head.

What the blazes is this supposed to mean? I wondered inwardly.

But then again it could mean, that the king is angry with me or something.

That's when I remembered that I'd dreamt.

I had seen a beautiful young woman, with soft raven dark hair framing her pretty face. Her hair had looked so soft I wanted to run my hands through it. Infact I was terribly tempted to, but she wasn't my mate.

That was odd, why would I feel that way towards her, my mate isn't supposed to allow that.

Ofcourse we can appreciate beautiful women fleetingly, but they mean absolutely nothing to us in the next second.

I shuddered in disgust over my wayward thoughts, as I turned to my left to look at my naked sleeping mate. Beauty etched into every fine curve of her body.

My lips twitched with a smile as I untangled myself from the covers and walked to the window.

I seethed at the sight before me. This was a vicious storm and it was going to leave a freaking mess!!

I raged inwardly.

I felt the king reach out to me in mindlink and I stiffened.

He almost never reaches out except it's an emergency.

"My king." I greeted respectfully.

"Derrick !!" He thundered at me.

I sucked my front teeth nervously.

He was definitely angry, at the very least he was extremely irritated by something I or my constituents have done.

" You have a reject stowaway with powers in your ranks, fish it out, find it , kill it, I don't care.

You can do whatever you want with it.

But do. Not. Let . Me. Feel. Its. Power. Again.!!"

Do you understand?” He asked me in a cold cold low tone, causing sweat to break out on my forehead.

The king sent me a mental picture of the same girl I’d just dreamt about and I gritted my teeth as I replied.

"Yes your grace. I understand."

I turned back to the bed and found my mate awake, sitting up watching me with worry on her face.

"Don't worry, the king just wants me to run an errand for him." I explained.

Her brows furrowed and I internally rolled my eyes at my lack of tact.

Ofcourse the king almost never sends me on errands, everyone in Lygion knows that.

"But you can't go out in the storm, please wait till morning."

“Of course I will, let's go back to sleep." I said as I got back into bed, I will deal with whatever IT is in the morning.

"Alpha , Alpha." The gruffly voice of my beta Tim, dragged me out of sleep. When I opened my eyes I was disappointed, I hadn't dreamt of the pretty girl again.

His smirking face irritated me further.

" Morning Alpha." He greeted.

"Why so grumpy this morning?"

He asked but I just gave him a warning glare.

My mate was probably with our toddler pups.

So I quickly got out of bed to take a shower and get ready for the day.

"I do not like to see your stone cold face when I open my eyes and you know that."

He grinned, nodded his head at me in acknowledgment and said “Luna sent me to get you. Besides breakfast was ready ten minutes ago, you know we don't like to eat without you.” He ended sarcastically.

Tim couldn't care less if we missed breakfast.

He's been my best friend since we were pups and we practically run the region together.

We fought side by side to keep our spot as alpha and beta of the Southern region of Lygion.

"We have a little stowaway in the rejects today. But we need to find it first before we move in.

I don't want to waste all day in there, I have my suspicions already.

But we need to get in there and get out as quickly as possible.

Let's get Alphonso in here to help us out with that." I was saying to him as we headed to the breakfast room.

"Alpha, I think we should deal with the worst of the storm first before we head out, I've got our people on it already, and the rejects would be bumped up to the top of the list this morning so we can get in and out as quickly as we want, without incidences." He said.

"Okay just make sure we are set by noon, the king caught this one himself, and we have carte blanche."

We dealt with the worst of the storm all morning, and the ones at the rejects, then we were ready to move out. Dressed in our all deep green almost black warrior outfit, weapons at the ready, we headed out to the rejects just after midday.

My stomach churned, just as I remembered the stench of the rejects.

The place wasn't fit any breathing thing to survive in, but Alphonso made it work.

We rake in an obscene amount of revenue from this area, and as long as they stay away from my city and the developed areas of my region, I let them sleep at night.

They are helpless people who have no powers, almost no abilities and no rights. But once in a while someone's powers would be awakened, it's rare but it happens, it's mostly never strong enough to even reach me, it mostly reaches Tim and he deals with them accordingly.

But this one must be really rare and really strong to have reached me and the king.

That's why I am leading the retrieval mission myself.

I don't want any mistakes.

We all got into the Rezinine tank SUVs, they were made for the treacherous terrain of the rejects.

Getting there from the city takes almost two hours because of the potholes, thick forestry and rock filled road.

If I constructed a road to connect the rejects with the highway it would take thirty minutes at most.

But no one wants the rejects coming out of their hell hole.

This only works if they stay where they are like the obedient little rats that they are.

As we got closer, I felt regret at the fate that was about to befall the girl. She didn't deserve death, she deserved to be someone's pretty mate or someone's eye candy.

But then the moon goddess always works in mysterious ways.

Finally the car slowed to a stop Infront of a pack house.

Alphonso's house was the only pretty thing in this slum.

It was a modest deep green two story house, situated at the top of a hill, looking down at the dump that is the rejects.

Up here the air was just a little better, the stench not as intense as it would be once we get down and dirty in the slum.

He was waiting outside the door to greet us."Alpha, Beta ." He greeted in a tone that suggested he was happy to see us.

But we weren't here for pleasantries and only nodded in acknowledgement of his greeting. Once Tim and I were in his office we wasted no time in getting down to business.

I sent him the image of the girl in mindlink and he nodded.

" I'll take you there myself, they should be home now, just done with their first job." He said and got to his feet, while sheathing his knives and guns.

I like Alphonso for a lot of reasons.

One would have thought making him delta of the rejects was a punishment, but it wasn't.

And he took it in good stride.

I chose him because he was smart and had great people skills, but the biggest weapon he has was his inherent need to mind his own business but observe people from afar. Nothing gets past him and I wanted eyes and ears here.

"What are they like?" Tim asked.

"Quiet reserved, keep to themselves way too much for people who have nothing to hide."

She's just a teenager, who lives with her grandmother. Nothing much, they work hard, pay their bills on time and have never been in any trouble.

This should be an easy capture."

I am actually surprised, it's the girl you're here for, my money had always been on the grand mother.

Something always ticks me off about her." He finished.

Then we got back into our vehicles and followed Alphonso's SUV.
