LYRA

I sat in the back seat, watching the city pass through the tinted windows while my body continued to ache. Everything hurt, and having Zade sitting right beside me wasn’t helping.

The guy barely said a word, and honestly, neither did I. After that kiss, I had no idea what to say to him. I couldn’t even figure out why I’d let it happen in the first place.

So, yeah, we rode in silence.

When the car finally pulled up outside his penthouse building, I leaned forward to get a better look. Holy crap. The place was huge, with glass walls that reflected the city lights and security guards standing near the entrance. I’d seen expensive houses before, but this was on another level.

Zade stepped out first, and I followed him inside. He didn’t bother explaining anything or asking if I was okay. He just walked ahead, expecting me to keep up.

The inside was just as ridiculous as the outside. Everything looked expensive, from the shiny floors to the furniture arranged so perfectly that I felt like I’d mess something up just by touching it.

The place was spotless, too. Not a single thing seemed out of place, and somehow, that only made it feel colder.

Zade took me down a hallway and stopped in front of a set of double doors.

“This is your wing,” he said, opening them.

My mouth nearly fell open.

The bedroom alone was bigger than the room I’d slept in back at the packhouse.

And the bed?

It was at least three times bigger than mine. There was a sitting area, a private bathroom, and a walk-in closet that could probably fit my entire old bedroom inside it.

Seriously, what did this man need all this space for?

I turned to him. “So, am I staying here permanently, or is this another one of your temporary arrangements?”

“You’re staying here until I say otherwise.”

I stared at him. “Wow. You really know how to make a girl feel welcome.”

His expression didn’t change. “Do you have a problem with that?”

Of course I did. The man acted like he could make every decision for me and expect me to smile about it.

Still, I swallowed my response. I knew why I’d agreed to come here. I needed the money for my kidney transplant, and I couldn’t afford to screw up my one shot at getting the surgery.

So, for now, I’d keep my mouth shut and play along.

Zade was about to leave when an older woman walked into the room. She wore a neat black dress, and her silver-streaked hair was pulled into a tight bun.

There was something about the way she carried herself that told me she wasn’t the kind of person who liked being told the same thing twice.

“Mrs. Hale runs the household,” Zade said. “If you need anything, ask her.”

Mrs. Hale turned to me with a polite smile. “It’s nice to meet you, Miss Lyra.”

“You too.”

She nodded, but her eyes kept drifting back to me. She tried to hide it, but I noticed.

Honestly, I couldn’t blame her. If Zade suddenly brought a woman home and gave her an entire wing of his penthouse, I’d have questions too.

The difference was that I wasn’t about to explain myself to her.

“Your meals can be served whenever you like,” she continued. “I’ll also arrange for someone to take your measurements and get you whatever clothes you need. If there’s anything else you’d like, just let me know.”

“Wow. You guys really do everything around here, huh?”

Her smile stayed in place. “We do our best to make sure the household runs smoothly.”

Okay. Definitely a woman who took her job seriously.

I slipped my hands into the pockets of my pants. “Can I ask you something?”

“Certainly.”

“Does he always bring strangers home and give them an entire wing of the house?”

For the first time since she walked in, Mrs. Hale looked caught off guard. It only lasted a second before she straightened her shoulders and folded her hands in front of her.

“I’m afraid that’s not something I can comment on, Miss Lyra. I follow my employer’s instructions.”

“Right. Got it.”

I wasn’t expecting her to spill Zade’s secrets, but I figured it was worth a shot.

“Make sure she gets whatever she asks for,” Zade cut in. “I don’t want to hear about any problems.”

Mrs. Hale immediately nodded. “Of course, sir.”

He hadn’t even asked what I needed. He’d simply decided that I’d get whatever I wanted and expected everyone to fall in line. Typical Zade.

Once he left, Mrs. Hale turned back to me.

“Would you like me to have dinner brought up to your room?”

“No, thanks. I’m pretty tired, so I think I’ll just get some rest.”

“Very well. There’s a telephone beside your bed. You can use it to reach me anytime you need something.”

“Okay. Thanks, Mrs. Hale.”

She gave me another polite nod before leaving, closing the door behind her.

I waited until her footsteps faded down the hallway before shutting the bedroom door properly. Then I let out a breath I’d been holding without even realizing it.

Mrs. Hale’s suspicion didn’t bother me much. She could wonder about me all she wanted. I had bigger things to worry about.

Like the fact that Zade seemed determined to keep me under his roof, whether I liked it or not.

LYRACaspian was still staring at my collar like he’d just seen something he never expected to see again.“That’s the lost crest of the Royal Valerius family,” he repeated, his voice low.I kept my expression calm, even though his reaction was starting to get to me. We were standing in the middle of a ballroom packed with wealthy business owners, powerful Alphas, and people who seemed to live for other people’s business. I wasn’t about to give them another reason to whisper about me.“What exactly are you saying, Prince Caspian?” I asked. “And how do you know anything about my birthmark?”His eyes moved across the room before returning to me. “This isn’t something we should discuss here. Could we speak somewhere private?”I wasn’t thrilled about that. “Can’t you explain it here?”“Please, Lyra. It’s important.”Something in his voice made me take him a little more seriously. The charming smile he’d worn earlier was gone, replaced by an expression that seemed almost troubled.“The Roya

LYRAThe hotel ballroom looked like something straight out of a billionaire’s fever dream. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, waiters moved through the crowd with silver trays, and every other person seemed to be wearing enough jewelry to pay for a house.I walked beside Zade in a deep emerald dress with a high collar that covered the crescent-shaped mark on my neck. My heels were killing me already, but I kept my expression pleasant as we entered the ballroom. The conversations around us dipped, then picked up again in whispers.“That’s him. The Cursed Devil.”“And the woman beside him must be his mate.”“I still don’t understand what he sees in her.”I kept my smile in place. Seriously? If people wanted to talk about me, the least they could do was come up with something original. Still, I wasn’t about to give anyone a reason to call me rude. I’d spent enough time being judged by people who knew absolutely nothing about me.Zade’s hand rested near my waist as he guided me th

LYRAI woke up the next morning with Zade’s words still running through my head. You’re mine now, Lyra. And I don’t share.Seriously, who said something like that and expected me to sleep peacefully afterward?I rolled onto my back and stared at the ceiling. The courtroom kept replaying in my mind, especially the part where Zade stood in front of everyone and announced that I was his fated mate. He sounded so sure of himself, like there wasn’t even room for doubt.Meanwhile, I was still trying to figure out what the hell happened between us at the gala.I felt something when he kissed me. I couldn’t deny that. But did that automatically mean we were fated mates? And if it did, why was he so certain when I barely understood any of it?My phone buzzed on the nightstand, dragging me out of my thoughts. I reached for it, expecting maybe one or two messages. Instead, my screen was packed with notifications.Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me.Gossip blogs, news outlets, and social media accou

LYRAFive days later, I found myself sitting inside the Lycan High Court, wishing I could be anywhere else. The place was intimidating as hell. Powerful Alphas filled the rows, lawyers whispered over stacks of documents, and elders sat at the front like their word was the law and everyone else could just deal with it. Even the way people looked at me made it clear they thought I was in over my head.Zade sat beside me, calm as ever, with his legal team seated on his other side. He hadn’t said much on the drive over, and I wasn’t about to start asking questions when he looked ready to handle this whole thing without breaking a sweat.Elder Thorne, on the other hand, looked like he was having the time of his life. The smug smile on his face told me he’d come prepared to make this as miserable as possible. He stood in front of the court and held up a set of photographs from the gala.“Your Honor, these images show Lyra kissing Alpha Zade Vane in full view of several witnesses,” he said.

LYRAJulian straightened his jacket, tugging at the front like he could fix the mess he’d just made by looking presentable again.“You might think you can walk away from me whenever you feel like it, Lyra, but that’s not how this works.” He spoke loud enough for everyone in the boardroom to hear. “Our marriage isn’t something you can throw away just because you’re pissed at me.”I folded my arms. “You’re the one who—”“Save it.” He cut me off. “You want to play this game? Fine. I’ll take it to Elder Thorne.”That got my attention.Julian’s mouth curved into a humorless smile. “I’ll file an injunction and have the 2,220-day clock reset on the grounds of adultery. Let’s see how confident you feel when the elders start asking questions about your little arrangement with Zade.”My chest went cold. The clock wasn’t some minor technicality in Croft pack law. It was part of the rules governing our marriage and separation, and resetting it could drag the whole process out again. Julian knew e

LYRAThe whole boardroom went dead quiet after Julian’s threat.I stood beside Zade’s chair, still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Julian had actually shown up at his office and pulled this crap in front of his entire board. Seriously? He couldn’t just leave me alone. He had to come here, make a scene, and act like the whole world owed him something.Julian didn’t care about the people watching. His attention stayed on me.“Get up, Lyra. We’re going back to the Croft pack.”I stared at him. “Excuse me?”“You heard me.” His voice carried that same bossy edge I’d spent years putting up with. “You’re still my Luna, legally speaking. Zade has no right to keep you here before the thirty days are up.”He turned toward Zade, his jaw set. “You’re taking advantage of a private marital dispute to steal another Alpha’s wife. I don’t care how powerful you think you are, Vane. You don’t get to ignore our laws just because you want something that belongs to me.”Belongs to me.My finger
