Chapter 2

Autor: snow
“What’s wrong? Sophia, are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?”

My tears threw Vito into a panic.

He pulled up my sleeve, and when he saw the large patch of angry red burns on my wrist, his voice began to tremble with concern.

“How did this happen? When did you get burned? Why didn’t you tell me?”

He seemed to have completely forgotten what had happened at the banquet.

I stayed silent, unsure whether I should remind him and tear away the mask of devotion he was pretending to wear.

“Alright, don’t cry. I’ll put some medicine on it for you.”

He soothingly rubbed my head before getting up to fetch the medical kit, muttering as he went.

“Look at you. You’re all grown up, yet you’re still such a crybaby who can’t stand a little pain. What would you do without me?”

I stared blankly at the angry red burns on my wrist.

He was right.

After being pampered by him for seven whole years, what would I do without him?

But, Vito, I just don’t want you anymore.

I don’t want this fake relationship anymore!

That night, I slept restlessly, waking drenched in sticky sweat.

Just as dawn began to break, Vito pulled me out of bed.

I mumbled sleepily and pushed him away, but he only chuckled and leaned in to kiss my lips.

Every trace of drowsiness vanished in an instant. Almost instinctively, I raised my hand to slap him, but forced myself to stop.

Thankfully, he pulled away after only a brief touch.

“Are you awake, my Sleeping Beauty?”

I turned my head away and wiped my mouth in disgust.

“It’s a day off. Why won’t you let me sleep?”

Vito looked utterly helpless.

“Did you know you had a fever last night? Come on. I’m taking you to the family clinic.”

Although I felt like I was already fine, I still couldn’t win an argument with him, so I obediently got out of bed.

In the hallway, I unexpectedly ran into Lucia.

She seemed to have injured her foot and was struggling to hop down the corridor alone.

The warmth on Vito’s face vanished instantly, his brows drawing tightly together.

As if he had forgotten I was standing beside him, he hurried several steps forward and rushed straight to Lucia, supporting her as he asked anxiously,

“What happened?”

Lucia smiled at him, her gaze slipping past him toward me.

“I just twisted my ankle. What a coincidence. Are you two here to see a doctor too?”

Vito froze for a moment.

Only then did he turn back to glance at me, his eyes flickering with unease.

“Yeah. Lorenzo’s little sister has a bit of a fever, so I brought her in to get checked.”

I had long since grown used to him calling me his “little sister.”

When we first got together, Vito had told me that his position in the family wasn’t secure enough yet. Once he became powerful enough, he would make our relationship public and give me the grand entrance I deserved.

So from that moment on, whenever we encountered anyone from the family, he would introduce me as his friend’s younger sister, entrusted to his care.

Only the few closest underbosses at his side knew about our relationship.

Lucia nodded.

“Then you should take good care of her. You two go ahead. I’m heading over there.”

As she spoke, she pointed toward the medical center on the other side.

Seeing her about to hop away again, Vito didn’t hesitate.

He scooped her up into his arms.

“Let Federico take you over there first. Sophia, wait here for me.”

I didn’t know why, but the moment I saw Lucia, I suddenly felt sick and weak, as though all the strength had drained from my body.

I leaned against the wall without saying a word.

Vito hadn’t been asking for my opinion in the first place. After dropping those words, he was already carrying Lucia toward the other side.

See?

A performance was still a performance.

No matter how convincing the disguise, the moment he encountered Lucia, his true feelings always surfaced, exposing the cracks in his act.

And Vito was completely oblivious to it.

I let out a bitter laugh and turned toward my own examination area.

It turned out it wasn’t just my imagination.

After my temperature was taken, it showed that I had a high fever.

The burns hadn’t been treated properly, and combined with my recent emotional distress, a virus had entered my body and caused an infection. I needed an IV infusion.

Out of habit, I pulled out my phone and instinctively reached for his secure line.

My fingertip hovered above the screen for a moment before I pulled it back.

Habit really was a terrifying thing.

  • My Secret Mafia Lover Begged for Me Back   Chapter 10

On the day Winston and I got married, Vito and Lucia showed up at the wedding. This time, they had been invited.Vito still had a cast on his leg, and Lucia was supporting him as he walked.Several family guards stood around them, making sure they couldn’t try anything.I looked at Winston in confusion, but he simply said, “It’s safer to keep them where we can see them. That way, they can’t cause any trouble.”My brother curled his lips. “That’s just your way of being devious.”When Winston and I exchanged rings, chaos broke out on Vito’s side.He shoved Lucia aside, and her forehead struck the corner of a table, drawing blood, yet he didn’t even spare her a glance. It was just like at Lucia’s welcome-back banquet, when he had moved too carelessly and splashed soup all over me, yet hadn’t even turned his head before chasing after her.Vito tried to rush over and shout something, but the family guards held him down firmly and covered his mouth. The booming wedding cannons and deafening

When I stepped outside, I saw Vito standing there in my favorite suit, holding a bouquet of flowers and smiling gently at me.“Sophia, I’ve thought things over. I was wrong about the way I treated you that day. I shouldn’t have laid a hand on you and hurt you like that.”“My feelings for Lucia really aren’t what you think. I only see her as a friend now. If you’re unhappy about it in the future, I won’t see her anymore.”I stared at Vito, unable to understand what he was trying to pull this time.Anyone with eyes could see how much he cared about Lucia. Now that the real deal was back, the substitute was supposed to step aside. Wouldn’t that have been a good thing for him?Why was he chasing me all the way to Sicily just to keep pestering me?When I remained silent, he pulled out a red velvet box and dropped to one knee in front of me.“Sophia, I know I’ve put you through a lot. Believe me, I’ll make it up to you from now on.”“Marry me. From now on, you’ll be the only woman by my side

On the way home, I asked my brother about Winston, curiosity getting the better of me.My brother sighed and told me everything, from beginning to end.It turned out that the old Don of the Greco family planned to hand full control of the family over to Winston after his arranged marriage. But Winston’s aunt by marriage was no pushover. She believed the family should be divided equally between her husband and Winston’s father. The problem was, those two men were each more useless than the other.Winston’s uncle in particular had previously been manipulated by a rival family and conned out of a considerable amount of money. If Winston hadn’t managed to turn the situation around, the Greco family might have lost half of everything because of him. With men like that, how could the old Don possibly feel comfortable entrusting the family’s legacy, built over generations, to them? When Winston’s aunt realized she couldn’t persuade the old Don, she could only turn her attention to Winston. To

The dinner was arranged at the family estate. That day, every family that had business dealings with my father was invited.I was dragged around to toast one family after another until my feet were aching, so I slipped into a guest room to rest. The moment I lay down on the bed, I heard a noise coming from the bathroom, startling me.“Who’s there?”I called out, but when I received no answer, curiosity got the better of me, and I cautiously approached the door. The moment the bathroom door opened, I was pulled inside. My gasp was caught in my throat as I stared at the man in front of me in horror.Soaking wet from head to toe, the man pinned me against the wall, his breathing hot and labored. It seemed to take him a great deal of effort to see me clearly. After a long moment, he called my name weakly.“Sophia Lucasi?”I blinked in response. He released me, only for his entire body to suddenly collapse against me.“How convenient. I’m your soon-to-be husband, Winston Greco. Could you do

The plane flew toward Sicily, with the bright sun shining overhead and an endless blue sky stretching beyond the window, a breathtaking sight.I watched the scenery outside with interest as it constantly changed.Sometimes, an endless sea of clouds rolled beneath us; other times, the sky glowed an eye-catching red.Suddenly, inspiration struck me, and I quickly grabbed some paper and a pen to sketch it down.By the time I finished the rough sketch, it was completely dark outside.I had flown from Chicago to Sicily. When we took off, it was the morning of the 27th.By the time we landed, it was already late at night. The moment I walked out of the airport, I saw my parents and eldest brother standing in a row, smiling and waving at me.Behind them stood a line of family guards, making the scene impossible to miss.I grabbed my suitcase and ran toward them, throwing myself into my mother’s arms and savoring the warmth I had missed for so long.Back then, because of the feelings in my hea

  • My Secret Mafia Lover Begged for Me Back   Chapter 5

After seven years together, I thought that no matter what happened, Vito should at least trust me as a person.I never expected that as long as Lucia was involved, even seven years meant nothing. One word from her was enough to condemn me, leaving me with no chance to defend myself. It was blatant favoritism, and unmistakable partiality. And in the end, I was nothing more than a substitute who had nothing of my own. There was no point arguing anymore.Ignoring Vito’s angry scolding behind me, I turned and walked away. With a clear handprint still visible on my cheek, I didn’t want to ruin my colleagues’ mood, so I didn’t return to the private room.Instead, I went to the front desk alone, paid the bill, and then messaged them to let them know I had to leave unexpectedly.“Something came up, so I had to leave early. Enjoy yourselves and have a good time. I’ve already taken care of the bill!”Dragging my exhausted body home, I looked around the place where I had lived for seven years mor
