Chapter 7

Penulis: Perfect Timing
Lillian was not going to survive another week, yet my parents still held out hope that she could be saved.

In the previous timeline, I had fainted from a cerebral hemorrhage, but they had not cared at all. They blamed me for ruining a good day and forced me to apologize to my sister for it.

When they realized that I was dead, they made some people drag me into a storage closet so that I would not ruin their celebration.

At this point, with Lillian at the verge of death, they were bawling their eyes out. They would have traded their own lives for her.

“What if I refuse?”

“You wouldn’t dare!”

Dad glared at me viciously. “If you hadn’t turned on the incinerator, Lillian would be a university student right now! You have to make up for Lillian’s wasted life!

“You don’t think I know what you want? All you want is to attend university, right? Well, I sold your admission letter. Let’s see how you attend university now!”

I was stunned and stood rooted in place.

“And then?” a younger student asked. She was traveling with me back to our hometown. “What happened next?”“He was locked up for three months before being sent back to the village,” I said. “He’s banned from the city area for the next decade.”The student let out a relieved sigh. In the seven years away from the village, I had started my own business and expanded it across the country. I had also set up a scholarship back home to fund academically gifted young girls. With that money, they would not have to give up their studies and live in the village. They did their best in their studies because I encouraged them to. No matter how hard things got or how tired they were, they did not give up. I was returning to the village because the village headman had asked me to open a factory there. He hoped that I could do something to improve the place and provide the villagers with better work opportunities. It would be even better if the surrounding villages could improve as well. I

Everything at Claridge University felt familiar yet foreign. It was a place I had seen on television countless times. Yet, I had never stepped foot in it.I had been trapped at home for nearly two decades. Every day, I worried and toiled to try and make a living. I could not even afford to buy decent clothes, let alone visit the university of my dreams. In this life, I could finally and openly become a student of Claridge University. It was all thanks to the memories from my previous life. I had earned and saved the money needed for my tuition and living expenses. Even with the funds secured, I did not spend my free time idling away. I made investments in the stock market and did not let any opportunity pass. After growing a little richer, I tried all kinds of delicacies and treated myself for all the times I had been deprived of.When new property developments started, I picked out several units for myself and waited for their value to rise. As my life continued to improv

The moment the door closed, I flung it open. While everyone was distracted, I jumped out and ran straight to push the button on Lillian’s incinerator. Flames and fuel spat out at the same time. No longer able to keep up her act, Lillian started howling inside. “Mom, Dad, save me!”She clawed at the door and shrieked, “I’m going to be burned to death! Save me!”The glass door of the incinerator clearly showed her face twisted in fear. The villagers were unprepared for this. They lost it.“My God, is she possessed?”“That’s not her ghost, is it?”“You superstitious lout, there’s no such thing as ghosts!”Lillian’s pitiful cries shouted in the air. Finally, Mom and Dad reacted. They squeezed through the crowd and went for the door. They ignored the immense heat and managed to get the door open. Their hands burned on the handle.Meanwhile, Lillian had fainted from the smoke within. The fuel that had splashed on her body had ignited, and she had been burned black.Mom

There was not just a watch in there but also a few valuables. Such high-end items could not belong to our poor family. It was then that I realized that my parents had prepared two contingency plans if I refused to raise my nephew. They were going to accuse me of stealing in front of everyone. They hoped that I would be detained and miss the enrollment deadline. After I was released from prison, they would keep a stricter watch over me. That way, I would have no choice but to help Lillian take care of her family. “You should admit your crimes now that the proof is out in the open.”Mom was overjoyed as she whispered into my ear. She crowed about her victory. “Everyone hates you now. It won’t help even if you have the admission letter.“Once you’ve been in prison, no university on earth will accept you. It would be a waste for you to have the admission letter now.”She snatched the admission letter I was holding and put it into her pocket carefully. Satisfied, she patted the o

I opened the door of the incinerator with a bang and reached out to Lillian. She was still pretending to be dead, but she trembled in rage and fear. However, with so many eyes on us, she had no way to stop me.I dug around and found a hidden bag that was securely sealed. I opened it in front of everyone. I pulled out the official-looking admission letter. [Miss Lluvia Lovell, congratulations! You have been accepted into Claridge University…]I felt so emotional seeing those words that I started to cry.I could finally live my dream of going to university! As I put away the admission letter, my parents said through gritted teeth, “You got what you wanted. Let Lillian out now!”I hesitated over whether I should let Lillian live. At that moment, I caught sight of my brother-in-law, Grant Trummer. He was approaching us with a group of people. They did not look friendly.I steeled myself, immediately pushed Lillian back in, and closed the incinerator door. Grant went ghos
