Chapter 4

Author: Lennox Chase
When I returned home, I saw my sister in the living room, tending to her arms.

Her arms were covered in needle-like wounds—the kind I had all over my body in my previous life.

Seeing me, she quickly lowered her sleeves. Even though pain drained the color from her face, she still lifted her head high, proud.

"Lex was so passionate just now. He said he'd love me forever," she said.

I thought she was both foolish and childish. To satisfy her ridiculous need to win in front of me, she even had to pretend.

No one knew Lex better than I did.

In my previous life, after marrying him, he had indeed treated me well at first. But it didn't last. He became a different person—each night, a demon.

Tonight, because of my sister's reckless words, he had been scolded by Kane. He must have been furious. And that's why he took it out on my sister.

By the time Kane returned, it was already past midnight.

I wisely curled up on the small sofa beside the bed.

He didn't so much as glance at me, took a shower, and went straight to sleep.

Kane wasn't heartless.

I had read about cases like his in psychology books. He must have experienced some trauma in the past that left his mind fractured. He trusted no one, only himself. So he disguised himself as a violent, aggressive person, while inside, he was fragile.

In my previous life, I had tried to understand how to deal with a madman like him. But I had only gotten through part of them before my sister killed me.

Luckily, the books I had read were about cases like Kane's.

I got up to make a medicinal soup, carefully bringing it to him.

"Kane, you've had a long day. Drink this to replenish your strength," I said.

Inside the soup were herbs to calm the mind, along with ingredients that would help him gradually fall in love with me. All the herbs were collected from the mountains, chosen to help him control his emotions and, eventually, to grow fond of me.

In my previous life, I had studied medicine extensively because I was always injured. That's how I knew these herbs.

But Kane refused to acknowledge my effort. He transformed into his wolf form and climbed onto the bed, then started meditating.

I had to manipulate him a little.

"I simmered this soup over low heat for a long time. I didn't let anyone else drink it even though they asked to have a sip. Since you don't want it, I'll give it away," I said.

No reaction.

I gritted my teeth and tried again. "Those were just some harmless gossip directed at the future Luna. No biggie. I can withstand them."

I deliberately emphasized the words "Luna."

Sure enough, he opened his eyes, transformed back into human form, and snatched the soup, drinking it in one go.

I smiled in satisfaction, boldly stroking his tail.

"Kane, can I sleep with you every night?"

"No!"

He swished his tail and knocked me away.

I didn't provoke him further and obediently returned to the sofa to sleep.

The next morning, I made him another batch of soup. Perhaps to avoid my nagging, he took it and drank it without a word.

After a few days of this medicinal soup, his temper calmed considerably.

Thinking of how uncontrollable he had been in my previous life, with no one to help him, I actually felt some pity for him.

Now that I was his mate, I would naturally do everything I could to heal his psychological wounds.

Of course, I also had my own selfish motives—I wanted to rely on him and spend this life peacefully.

But giving him this soup alone wouldn't be enough. I would need a second step for my plan.

When Kane said those words, I didn't even dare look at him.He thought it was his own love for me, but in truth, it was the effect of my medicine.Looking back now, I realize how selfish I was. I shouldn't have tied Kane to myself for his entire life just because of my own fears. So, I stopped making the medicinal soup for him and wrote him a letter of explanation.I packed my luggage and prepared to leave the wolf pack. But just as I was about to leave, Kane stopped me.I thought he was going to vent his anger at me.So I hurriedly apologized, panic rising in my voice."I'm sorry. I really didn't mean it… I just wanted to survive in the wolf pack, so I used medicine to make you love me…"Before I could finish speaking, he pulled me into his arms. His voice sounded wounded."You heartless woman. You slept with me, gave birth to my pup, and now you don't want me anymore?"My mind went completely blank. What did he mean by that? How could he still speak to me so gently? Then

The place my sister chose was by the sea. This time, she had carefully done her makeup, yet it still couldn't hide the bruises on her face. Before eating, she tasted every dish."Don't worry. I didn't poison the food."Kane ignored her and kept placing the best dishes into my bowl."Eat more. The pup in your belly needs nutrients."The moment he said that, my sister stared at me in shock."You're pregnant?"I covered my stomach and smiled at her."Yes. I want a son, but Kane says he wants a daughter."As soon as the words left my lips, I saw the fire of jealousy ignite in my sister's eyes. She clenched her fists tightly, forcing herself to suppress it."Then eat more, Thalia. From now on, we sisters should live well together."Suddenly, a strange fragrance rushed into my nose. Both Kane and I collapsed to the ground. My sister looked at us viciously."You're just as stupid as in your past life. Now I'll send you to the underworld!"When she lunged at us with a knife, K

Kane gave a casual smile and ruffled my hair with his large hand."Don't worry. Nothing will happen."I nodded, then suddenly remembered he hadn't drunk his medicinal soup that morning."Hurry back and drink your soup."He nodded silently, saying nothing more.…The night before Kane officially assumed his Alpha position, a torrential rainstorm swept across the land.He had gone on a business trip and hadn't returned yet.A heavy unease settled in my chest. Something felt wrong.I called him again and again. Every call went unanswered.Gripping my umbrella, I ran down the mountain to look for him, constantly trying to reach him by phone. The rain made me stumble repeatedly, soaking me to the bone. Then, I received a message from my sister.Lyra: [You think you can be the Luna? Dream on!]Panic surged through me. Tears stung my eyes as I raced to her house.Just as I reached the doorway, the metallic tang of blood hit me.Bright red blood, mixed with rainwater, had flowe

As the Alpha heir, Kane stood ready to step into power at any time.I remembered that Lex would soon make his move. That was why, during this period, I kept deliberately and subtly reminding Kane.At night, I curled up in his arms."Kane, now that the Alpha has passed away and you're about to take over, you must always stay on guard against outsiders."I didn't know what method Lex would use to harm him. I only remembered that in my previous life, Kane had suddenly died. Then, Lex, as the only other Alpha heir, stepped in and took his position. That day, Lex was in an unusually good mood. For the first time, he didn't beat me. He had said, "I finally got Kane killed."That was how I knew he was the one who murdered Kane."Don't eat things from outside casually, and don't trust people too easily…"Before I could finish speaking, his lips blocked mine. When the kiss ended, he looked at me with deep affection."You still don't trust your mate? No one is my match in the pack."

"You women are so dramatic. Can't live without a man, huh?"He spat out the words angrily, pulled the covers over himself, and went to sleep.I stayed on the sofa, muttering, "Sigh… injured and still stuck on the sofa. It's fine. It's just a little discomfort…"Before I could finish, he yanked me onto the bed, glaring darkly."Sleep."In the end, that huge body of his curled up miserably on the sofa. It was almost laughable. But I'd read somewhere that people who curl up to sleep often do so because they feel insecure. So, while he slept, I boldly covered him with a blanket and knelt beside him, holding him as I slept. And in the middle of the night, I quietly slipped away.I continued making his medicinal soup every day, and he had grown used to drinking it daily.…Soon, my sister and Lex were released.I heard that Lex had already repented in the dungeon, so the Luna held a banquet to allow him the opportunity to apologize to Kane.At the banquet, I saw my sister wearin

After I saw Kane off to the car, I turned around and saw Lex hiding in the shadows. He stared in our direction, unwilling and resentful. He was the same as my sister—both of them were extremely jealous people. The only difference was that he was good at hiding it.I raised my hand and called out to a servant."I'm going to the back mountain to gather herbs to make some soup for Kane. I'll go first. Bring the tools and come find me later."I spoke loudly, making sure Lex could hear every word. Then I headed toward the back mountain.I dug up many medicinal herbs, all meant to calm the mind and nourish the body. Before long, I saw Lex walking toward me, a whip in his hand.My body trembled uncontrollably, but I tried to steady my heart."Lex, what are you doing here?"He let out a cold laugh."Thalia, why don't you guess?"The way he looked at me overlapped perfectly with the him from my previous life.Cold sweat poured down my back, but I forced myself to stay calm."I'm
