Wham! A slap landed on my cheeks. It stung so hard, and I tasted blood. Tears slipped out of my eyes as her minions held me in place. "I hate you so much," my sister spat with venom in her voice "you stole my man from me and - I swear, I will make you experience hell!" ••• Sarah's life took an unexpected turn when her father arranged her marriage to billionaire artiste; Damian Delance. But Stephanie, Sarah's twin had always wanted Damian for herself. In this tale of sibling rivalry, who will win Damian's heart, and at what cost?
View MoreMy phone’s ringtone woke me up. Groaning, I reached for my phone on the bedside table. It was Stephanie.
"Sarah," she yelled, making me flinch. I wondered why she was calling early, as she was supposed to be with her friends, having a sleepover.
"Damian is back! My childhood crush is back!! He has returned! Turn on the television, Sarah. They’re broadcasting his arrival at the airport!"
Her excitement overflowed as she spoke.
I scoffed. She didn’t just wake me up for this.
"Everyone is tuning in. Oh my! I'm looking at him right now. He looks so adorable.” she gushed.
I rubbed my eyes and let out a sigh "You're very dramatic, Steph, " I remarked, ending the call.
If it wasn’t that she's my sister, I would’ve yelled at her. I don't like my sleep interrupted. I grabbed the remote for the flat-screen TV in my room and switched it on. True to her words, they were still airing a live video of Damian’s return at the airport.
I tried not to roll my eyes. Like what’s so special about him?
Damian Delance was being swarmed by reporters at the airport. The media praised his global awards and status as the top eligible bachelor at 22. He mentioned returning to complete high school, then left with his bodyguards.
I turned off the Tv to prepare for school. I had my bath, and changed into our uniform; green blazer, white sleeve and skimpy skirt.
Then Nanny Linda gave me breakfast of pancakes, and smoothie. And as usual, Daddy had gone to work.
Ever since mom died of cancer, dad gave himself to his company. Stephanie became more wild, and I stayed at home being the introvert I was.
I got into the car so my chauffeur, Mr Idris, would drive me to school.
In less than 10 minutes, we arrived at Euphoren High School. Idris highlighted from the car to open it for me. And he bade me farewell as I walked along the premises. The whole school was buzzing also with the news of Damian’s return.
Students were scattered across in pairs and groups, talking about Damian while staring at his pictures on their phones.
“He is so cute,”
“I heard that he’ll be coming to our school,”
My eyes widened at that. I didn't want him to come.
“Oh, gosh! If that ever happens, I will scream my lungs out. Just imagine attending classes with the iconic Damian Delance everyday!” some girls giggled
I almost groaned. Breathing deeply, I took the stairs and entered my classroom.
Suddenly I felt a tight bear hug- Stephanie?
“Stephanie? You came to school!” I squealed, hugging her back. We kissed each other’s cheeks. I had missed her so much.
“You left me to have a sleepover with your friends,” I accused with crossed arms
“Sorry about that, anyways I came to witness Damian’s entry to our school.” She giggled. We are a fraternal twin.
“Yes, girl. You’re going to be star of the moment.” Her friends, Tasha and Kelvin came to give her high-five. I forced a smile. My sister, and her squad call themselves “The Refined.” They are the most dangerous clique at Euphoren High.
Stephanie kept talking with her friends, having forgotten about me.
Just then we heard a scream and stamping of feet, the school went into an uproar. Mean-looking hefty protocols in black suits ushered someone into our classroom. Everyone hurried to their seats.
I gave my best friend and seatmate Zara, a tight-lipped smile.
“Settle down, everyone!” Mrs Vanessa, the headmistress entered our classroom. Beside her, was the Damian Delance, dressed in an all black outfits. He gave a very bad boy vibe.
I looked around to see some girls began unbottoning their shirts to reveal their cleavage.
They purred “Oh my goodness! He is really here!”
“He is an absolute Greek god!”
I shuffled uncomfortably in my seat.
“Everyone meet Damian Delance, your new classmate,” Mrs Vanessa introduced. The class erupted in another uproar.
Meanwhile, Damian looked bored with the whole frenzy of him. Like he was used to it.
When it was time for him to sit, he went to the back of the class.I turned to look him, and eyes met with blue sapphire eyes. I knew I had seen them somewhere.
Right there and then, I felt uneasy… I stood to my feet.
"Where are you going?" Zara asked
I said quickly, "I need to use the restroom,"
Zara nodded, and I hurried out.
I literally ran all the way to the restroom, and pushed the restroom door hardly. As I stared at my reflection in the mirror, I couldn’t help but shiver.
“He can’t be the one. I am safe…”
When Stephanie left the room, Damian came back inside and I told him that I wanted to go home.“If that’s what you want,” Damian chuckled, giving me a beautiful smile as though he wasn’t the one who insisted that I stayed in the hospital till I was completely better.“Yes, that’s what I want.” I stuck my tongue out for him.“Your OB, by the way, visited while you took a nap; before Stephanie came. She’s already arranged a schedule for prenatal checkups.” He said and i beamed widely, reaching out for his neck as I hugged him tightly.“Thank God!” I said.We were both on the bed, as we hugged for a long time. The feeling was heaven for me… and then when we separated, he got something out from his pocket.“Sorry that this was lost for a while, but here it is now.”I fixed my eyes on the velvety box in between his two fingers. And Gosh! When he opened it, I saw the glittering thing inside.“Oh, Damian! My ring!”“I don't want you to be worrying anymore. See? It's been recovered.” I burst i
“Pregnant?” Damian stared at me with blazing light in his eyes. “God! Oh, God!” He grinned widely and touched my stomach. “Is she pregnant, doc?” He looked at the doctor to wait for the latter's statement.“Yes, she is! Congratulations, Mr. Delance! Your wife’s pregnant!” Then, the doctor gave me a happy smile. “There's a new life forming in your womb, young lady. Congratulations!”Oh!I was pregnant... and I didn’t know... I was bringing a new life in my womb --- my baby and Damian’s.Damian and I gazed at each other. He then touched both of my cheeks with his palms.“We're going to have a child soon,” Damian said, just a whisper at first.“Yes, our child...” I repeated with tears in my eyes now.“You're pregnant. I'm gonna be a father soon!” heexclaimed, almost shouting now. I had never seen him this excited, especially when he threw a fist on the air. Next, he started jumping and screaming happily in the room. I felt so emotional, even when he came back and started peppering my fa
“Hypertension… but he’s alright now. Don’t worry about him. He’s okay.Trust me, Baby.” He saidOh, God! There was no need for me to ask why Dad had a hypertension attack. It was clear that it was because of what happened to me. Oh, Dad! After holding strong for Stephanie, then this happened to me. We are all he has.“What? I want to see my Dad. Please, let me see him,Damian,” I pleaded, seeking his hand.“Ssshhh, calm down, Baby. Dad’s okay. It wasn't serious at all. They simply had him admitted so he could rest from the worry, and thoughts… Just trust me, okay?”Well, I trusted him. If he says Dad was okay, I trusted him. I closed my eyes and imagined Dad’s relaxed face.“You'll see him soon... just not right now. We have to make sure first of your health.” I heard Damian say.My health? Why, what happened? But I feel fine.Flashing back my thoughts on what happened, I recalled Zara, her craziness, and...“Damian,” I cried out, opening my eyes.“Yes?” He locked his gaze on me.“My ri
Books. Lots of Books.I was in a paradise with so many books. The winds caressed sweetly and I was in awe of the beauty around me. I loved it here. Then I heard a voice calling me. A masculine voice that was so familiar to me. A voice that seemed to come from far, far away… but no matter how far it was from me, the voice persisted to call me… to come back to him.“Baby!”Huh? I turned and I saw no one. Then I bent to flip the pages of one of the books around me. Somehow everything here soothened me. It felt like home, where I belong. From a distance, I heard a girl’s voice. “Gemi…”The voice seemed to be following me.“Stephanie!” I called her out. “Gemi…”“Steph,”Then there was darkness again.***“Baby! Please come back!” I heard that voice again. I was back in the paradise, with a pile of books stuck in front of me. I looked at the alluring peaceful place.“Baby!”Damian?“Wake up, please,” he pleaded.Wake up?I looked ahead and didn’t see the books anymore. I was in a place I
I opened my eyes to an unfamiliar room.My whole back was pressed to the surface of a chair, and so I had my eyes to the door. Then it dawned on me that both of my legs and arms were tied with ropes to each sides of the chair, and it was almost impossible for me to escape. My mouth was tied up with something so tight to my skin, which I presumed to be a duct tape. Where was I?Then everything came flashing back, the sneaking out of home, Zara’s house, the warthog mask… The same mask the person who tried to kill me wore…Just then, the door creaked open and in came the girl who had been the one causing me mishaps, Zara. This time she was dressed in a yellow top over gray joggers. “Oh darling, you’re finally up. I was hoping not to kill you in your sleep.” She said. My eyes widened in horror. I wanted to speak but my lips was still taped together. How could she do this to me? What did I ever do to her?We were best friends!Tears started to roll down my cheeks. I felt so scared, hurt
“Sure,” I told her. Damian sighed and palmed a hand over his forehead. When the call ended, I turned to him. “What?” “You can’t go to Zara’s house. You can’t go anywhere yet, it’s too dangerous,” Damian protested.“It’s been a month since the whole thing, it’s my best friend. I’ll be fine.” I said“No,” Damian shook his head “we still don’t know who these bad people are. We don’t know who the boss is,”“Don’t worry, I’ll be safe. I’ll go and come back in a blink of an eye,” I smiled“Fine, if you must go, i’ll come with you,” Damian saidI shook my head vigorously “not a chance, I’ll just go with some of the bodyguards.”“Then forget it. I won’t let you leave the house,” he said through clenched teeth. My eyes narrowed “don’t be difficult, Zara was in my life before you.”Damian jaw clenched tightly. He just turned and left me standing there. Only then did I realize that I had spoken wrongly. He was just trying to look out for me. I hurried after him but Damian completely ignored him
