"Since when do we need a break?""Since now. Today." Dean grabs his things and heads for the door. My heart sinks to my stomach at the sound of the door slamming. Tears form on the brim of my eyes. "Don't cry. Don't cry." I say to myself as my face falls. I pick up my phone and call Gale. It's the last thing I should be doing, but I really need a friend right now.Dean's P.O.V.I walk far out on campus. Anywhere I know I won't bump into Hailee anytime soon. A car hoots at me from behind and halts next to me. Madison's head pokes out of the back window of the car. "Where are you going all by your lonesome self?" "Anywhere I can clear my head.""Well, we're off to a bonfire party. You can tag along. It'll probably help." She offers. As much as this may be a bad idea, it will relieve me. I'll deal with any consequences later. If Hailee can have ice cream, I can go to a party."Okay."Madison scoots over after opening the door for me. She smiles at me. "Relax. We'll have loads of fun."
Hailee's P.O.V.Gale and I are sat by the river- after a slow walk along its aisle, while eating our ice cream. Gale leans back on his arm. "So, what exactly aroused your protest to Madison's room?" He asks. I sigh and stare across the river. "Jealousy." I skew my lips in embarrassment. Gale nods his head. I turn to look at him for just a moment. "Dean asked me to marry him today." Gale looks at me too, more of a glance, squinting his eyes from the sun shining down on us. "He did?"I lick my ice cream. "He really did." "Wow!"I lightly chuckle, pushing my behind my ear. "I was as shocked as you are." "And what did you say?" Gale questions. I shrug. "One day."Gale chuckles. "That's surely a confidence booster." He sarcastically says. "He must think he scared you off. I would." I sigh. "I just wasn't expecting it. It's way too soon, you know?""Maybe tell him that. He's probably overthinking the whole thing alone somewhere." Gale says."I will, later."Gale nods and sits up strai
Hailee's P.O.V."Marry me?" Dean suddenly blurts out. I look up at him. The look on his face shows a true sincerity, but he quickly looks away and apologises. He chuckles nervously. I place my hand on his, a slight smile on my face. My lungs want to scream 'yes, yes, yes!', but as much as I want to say it, I resort to a simple "One day."He softly smiles back and takes my hand into his. He lifts my hand to his lips and kisses my knuckles. "I'll hold you to that."I chuckle and lean back into my seat, breaking our contact. I push my tongue into the side of my cheek. I'm still curious about his time with Madison last night. I mean, I really do trust him but he's been very vague about everything. Probably because there's nothing to tell, but he did plan on keeping what she whispered to him until I asked."So, did Madison try anything yesterday?" Dean sighs and leans into his chair. "I could ask the same thing about your friend.""What? You mean Gale?"Dean shrugs. "Whatever his name is.
Madison and I have been dancing for an hour now. My feet feel numb and my shirt and hair both feel wet from sweat. "I'm tired now!" I say in Madison's ear.She nods. "Me too." We both move from the dance floor and find seats. I haven't seen Hailee in the past hour. I wonder where she's disappeared to.Hailee's P.O.V.Gale has been a breath of fresh air tonight. We've danced our feet off and are now seated to talk and drink, all the while catching our breaths too. Dean crosses my mind. He hasn't come looking for me. Madison must have had her hands all over him."Hello! Earth to Hailee." Gale laughs. I laugh too after a few blinks. "Sorry." He shrugs. "Don't worry about Dean. He seems, trustworthy." He says, as if trying to convince himself at the same time."Yeah, he is." I say.Gale sips from his cup. "See? Then you have nothing to worry about."Gale is right. But I do have to find him. Tonight was supposed to be about us blowing steam together, until Madison came along.I finish th
I pull out a pair of white Fila sneakers. "Thank you, I love them." I hug him. They're everything I could have asked for as I won't have to keep wearing my now worn-out black sneakers. Dean returns the hug. "You're welcome." "In fact, I'm going to wear them tonight." I smile. Dean chuckles. "That's a great idea, babe." I put the shoes back in their box and the shopping bag. We both lay down on his bed and watch a movie from his laptop to kill time before the party.>>> Later on, Dean and I walk to my room so I can change into something warm and more appropriate for the night. He watches me with clear lust in his eyes yet you can tell he's trying to keep it subtle. I tie my shoes. "Let's go." Dean gets up from the chair near my study desk and opens the door, letting me out first. We walk for almost thirty minutes from campus to get where we're going. I nearly sigh from relief when I hear music playing. Dean takes my hand as we walk into the crib full of sweaty and already drunk s
The first four weeks of my college freshman year has been nothing but one word so far--hectic. The daily curriculums are so long and have you running around like a headless chicken that you'd swear it's out to get you. The lecturers barely give us a gap to breathe. We constantly have to be running machines, even if you haven't had an oil change, if you get what I mean.I haven't seen Dean for at least four days due to our different courses and timetables. The day to day studying and assignments haven't been of much help either. It is a lot. With the bit of free time I have today, I'm hoping to see him because I miss my boyfriend. I close all my textbooks and grab my phone to text Dean after making sure it's at least on vibrate considering that I am in the library. Me: Hey babe. Let's meet at the cafe for lunch, yeah?Dean: Sure. Give me about 20 mins.I smile ata his quick response and excitedly rush for the door. As I open it, Madison is leaning against the wall across. She slyly s
