Three months later

"Hailee, make sure that you don't leave anything behind. You don't know when you'll be back home again." My mom says for the fifth time today out of the other hundred times this week. I roll my eyes and nod. It is finally D day! I'm off to Chicago for college and Dean will be here soon.

A car hoot sounds outside. Mom claps her hands together. "That must be Dean." I follow mom to the door with my luggage. We step outside where Dean is opening his trunk, preparing to fill it with my stuff. We both smile at the sight of each other before he walks towards me and squeezes me in his arms.

"I've missed you."

I snuggle my nose into his chest. "Me too." Dean and I let it each other go so he can greet my parents. My mom decides it the perfect time to take photos considering they won't be coming along. I bite on the inside of my cheek. "Where's Halsey?"

"She's probably still inside, sulking. I don't understand what's wrong with her. She won't see you for some time." Mom answ

    The next morning, I find Dean on the hockey field practicing his shots. I take a seat on a bench and wait for him. He seems to be deep in thought about something.     After an episode of drama and tears, Gale and I go out to get some ice cream. Sunglasses are covering my eyes to cover how swollen they are. We both take a seat on a bench. "You're going to make me fat." He says with a mouthful of ice cream. I giggle. "It's your choice to join me."He shakes his head. "Wouldn't be quite polite to let you eat on your own." I smile. "Especially at a time like this." He adds. He's not wrong there."It is a beautiful day though, isn't it?" He nods. "Yeah, besides the fact that I've missed three classes already." We both chuckle.     I'm woken up by the ringtone of my phone. I groan as I stare at the screen with Gale's name displayed on it. I place it upside down on my bedside table. I flip onto my back, noticing that my shoes are still on. I sigh, my eyes feeling heavy and swollen. Dean definitely kicked the bucket this time. How could he do such a thing? All that trust thrown out just like that. I place my hands on my face as my chest pains and tears start to roll down my cheeks. My phone rings again. I ignore it and lightly start sobbing. I can't find any solid reason for why he would run to Madison. Yes, I have problems with Madison, but it wouldn't feel any better even if it was anyone else-he could've picked anyone else though. I'm making my own assumptions constantly about why he really asked for a break. Everything is just so frustrating and confusing.A knock sounds at my door. "Just make sure you don't wait too long and give someone else a chance to tell her." Mom warns. I nod. She's right. Halsey wouldn't like that.
