Hailee's P.O.V.

Gale and I are sat by the river- after a slow walk along its aisle, while eating our ice cream. Gale leans back on his arm. "So, what exactly aroused your protest to Madison's room?" He asks.

I sigh and stare across the river. "Jealousy." I skew my lips in embarrassment. Gale nods his head. I turn to look at him for just a moment. "Dean asked me to marry him today."

Gale looks at me too, more of a glance, squinting his eyes from the sun shining down on us. "He did?"

I lick my ice cream. "He really did."

"Wow!"

I lightly chuckle, pushing my behind my ear. "I was as shocked as you are."

"And what did you say?" Gale questions.

I shrug. "One day."

Gale chuckles. "That's surely a confidence booster." He sarcastically says. "He must think he scared you off. I would."

I sigh. "I just wasn't expecting it. It's way too soon, you know?"

"Maybe tell him that. He's probably overthinking the whole thing alone somewhere." Gale says.

    I softly knock on Hailee's door. Music is playing from the inside just loud enough--sad music. I knock again a bit louder than the first time.     After an episode of drama and tears, Gale and I go out to get some ice cream. Sunglasses are covering my eyes to cover how swollen they are. We both take a seat on a bench. All that trust thrown out just like that. I place my hands on my face as my chest pains and tears start to roll down my cheeks. My phone rings again. I ignore it and lightly start sobbing. I can't find any solid reason for why he would run to Madison. Yes, I have problems with Madison, but it wouldn't feel any better even if it was anyone else-he could've picked anyone else though.
